I have a GEHL 4615 that also had the Perkins diesel. After I rebuilt the engine I replaced the mechanical fuel pump with a 12volt electric fuel pump. It sure made life a lot easier!
Mine is a pretty old 4.107 instead of the original 4.108 and for some reason, when I tried to put an electric pump to it, it opened a spring loaded bypass valve and wouldn't pump anything through the high pressure side. I did put in a brand new mechanical fuel pump though, and I would consider it a 5 year or so maintenance item.
Perkins engine codes for engines of that era. 4 108. 4 cylinders. 108 cubic inches capacity. You might have known that already but just in case anyone is unfamiliar. 😊
I feel like I need to make that into a T-shirt Theoretically Practical Come for the Landy Stay for the insanity I'll make sure you get your cut of the Dozens of dollars that stand to be made here.

Good Info! I was aware, but It's definitely something I should have mentioned. Thanks!
They are called wrenching valves on top of the pumps SO YOU CAN PUSH THE MACHINE IF NOT RUNNING
The number of people who don't know that such a thing exists is surprising. Even among people who work regularly with heavy equipment.
Came for the Landy , stayed for the insanity .

Hey!!!! Where are you located?! There are some parts I need for a 4.108 in my Gehl HL4400 😂
I'm in southern maine, I don't have a spare injector pump or exhaust manifold, really only the long block is left over, Let me know what you need.
No timing chain. They have gears.
Oh, don't I know it, later on I end up having to pull all the timing gears to swap the front motor plate to make it work with the Gehl motor mounts.
Semi congealed black jello 🤔
it was properly nasty, even more so than just from water.
