@@ansonoconnor2035 agreed, I didn't say her content wasn't impactful.. the delivery is awful..... if you can get through the dullness of this video and what her communication style is then you're golden. I was overwhelmed with being "talked to" and not engaged. A students worst nightmare.

As a Health Care Professional, and a two-time Cancer Survivor I can relate directly to her words. So many times patients just want to be afforded the opportunity to talk, and share their stories. More often than not, they are silenced due to constraints of the Provider (quantity of Patients on their calendar that day that need to be seen, time constraints). I think that is the key to unlocking the power of establishing therapeutic rapport with patients. Let them open up and tell their story as they're comfortable. Listen with an empathetic ear, and a non-judgmental nor biased heart. It's amazing what Our Patients can teach us, if they are given the platform and afforded the opportunity to do so. I know my from experience of being at the bedside, both as the patient in the bed, and the Professional outside of the bed that patients are very resilient, whom thrive on genuineness, and humility. Especially at one of the most vulnerable times in life.

Thank you Dr Charon for sharing your experience and knowledge, for being so humane, I´ve been thru many terrible situations in my life related to my own health problems, my son´s neurosurgery etc... your approach is reassuring , soothing, calming. Just being at the patient´s side is therapeutic. You are a great doctor. (I´m Buenos Aires, If I ever go back to NYC I will definitley go visit you, and I would like to have a nice chat with you).

Just as it takes courage and tenacity to walk through the dance of illness, it also takes courage to be an empathetic and compassionate clinician. You demonstrate this eloquently. I will take note
