It takes a real man to to cry, without emotion we cannot love. In my 70's I have seen my fare share of wars. But what I have seen today, watching a young Russian lad shed a tear for my country just enforces my belief that this grande ole flag and all it stands for can reach far beyond it's borders. Prayers and Love to you young man.

It’s to bad America and Russia are such rivals in the world. Because in truth we share so many of the same values and strengths. How much better would this world be if the two biggest boys on the block didn’t fight with each other, but instead worked to make the block better?

Imo America and Russia haven't been true enemies since the Cold War. Democracy vs Communism and all that jazz, however after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the iron curtain I believe things shifted culturally in both nations. Governments don't define the nation the people do. I think the biggest threat to not just the states, but the world is China.

As an American I cry at the story of Dunkirk, at Churchill's speeches, and even at the siege of Vienna (when the Winged Hussars arrive to relieve them). What's powerful is the human determination, the power with which they act on their ideals, and the results against all odds borne from their sacrifice. This feeling transcends nations, but those who share heritage or culture will feel more connected to it. The US flag is a symbol that goes beyond our nation: It's a symbol of liberty - used in movements resisting Authoritarianism around the globe (Namely Hong Kong, Taiwan and the like). To the Commonwealth the Union Jack holds special meaning as well, despite it being another nation's flag.

I feel like the significance of that story wasn’t expressed properly to us though. It was only later in life as I studied on my own that I really got it. …and this sermon tells the story about as good as it can be told. Men laying down their lives so that others may be free. Refused to let that flag hit the ground. Refused to surrender no matter what. If that doesn’t inspire you, I don’t know what will.

We are a family, we may bicker and squabble amongst ourselves but when our country and our freedom are threatened, we stand tall side by side and defend it with our lives. That is how this country gained its freedom. By standing together and the bloodshed of our founders.

It is no small irony how so many Americans say they will stand tall side by side to defend our country, yet the Active Duty population of the ENTIRE (not yelling, just emphasis) U.S. Military is 0.45% of the country's population. I am a 0.45%er. I'm not doubting your patriotism, just sharing a little known fact. So many people talk, yet so few volunteer. Before you say anything, if you decide to, understand I'm not looking for any platitudes. While expressions of appreciation for my service are appreciated more than you might likely ever know, I neither look for them nor expected them. All I would ask is that if you see someone wearing a uniform or something showing they are a Veteran, tell them, "Welcome Home" rather than thank you. Especially if they wear a hat or shirt stating they are a Vietnam Veteran. Those brothers and sisters were treated the worst by the country they swore to defend.
      Thank you.

My father told me as a child the story about our National Anthem. He told me that after that, no matter what war was being fought, soldiers died rather than let our flag touch the ground. He said men died on Guadalcanal simply to keep the flag from touching the ground. He fought with the Marines in Korea and I'm sure saw some terrible things. But he made sure that his children understood and appreciated our flag and its history. So when I see people kneeling during the Anthem or otherwise failing to respect the flag that so many fought and died for, it makes me so sad and angry. Never be shy about looking up a word, spelling, meaning, etymology, pronunciation, etc. I was born and raised in English and will be 70 next year. I still look up words nearly every day. There is always room for improvement.

We have a beautiful saying here in the US about our flag.
"It is not the wind that moves our flag, but the breath of the men and women who died to protect it and what it represents!".

It’s that “tell us where the flag is” “what have they done with the flag” part for me 😭 Now my supposed fellow countrymen burn it for fun.
Enjoyed your reaction! It’s touching to know that Russians and people all over the world seem to have more respect for our country than a majority of people who were born here.

Only because they haven't been taught how to respect the flag for the past 30 years, needs to be brought back into the school, my generation said the pledge allegiance in the morning and we were taught about why Star-Spangled Banner is what it is and why it's our national anthem this isn't anything new to my generation just sad that the younger Generations have not been taught this

It’s really heartwarming to see a man from Russia cry as he learns the story behind our national anthem. It’s extremely sad that a lot of people here have no respect for the flag. If they knew anything about the flag and actually respected it, they would know that the flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery. They also wouldn’t use it to beat up cops, storm the Capitol and fly it next to the confederate flag.

My forefathers fought in the American Revolution, 1812, and almost every war since. The history of this is why I am a Veteran, Stand for the Anthem. The flag stood because of the bodies holding it there and it was waving because of the last breaths of those men keeping it moving.

My family has been in this country of ours since at least the mid-1700s, and at least one member has served ever since, up to today, including myself. Welcome home, brother, and thank you.

My family heritage goes so far back. I'm 1/2 Lakoda Sioux, and the other colonials who fought in wars on American soil up to now.
Even 9/11 we have the most heartfelt patriotic picture of our American Flag flying amongst the fallen towers, being held up by our heroes, the first responders... Firefighters, Law Enforcement, Port Authority, Veterans, brave Americans who also survived the day the world watch terrorist try and destroy us. Once again, Old Glory shown the world and proudly waved her colors high! Proving proudly to the world, our FLAG is still flying.
Thank you, you dear sweet humble man from Russia, for caring enough for humanity, and wanting, truly deep in your heart to understand America, and her people's reason for honoring our Nation's Flag. God Bless You, and I pray one day you can come to America, and take in our most beautiful peaceful places you'll never forget. We have a song "God Bless America"...it gives a perfect description of our land. 💞🙏

From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans white with foam, God bless America,
      My home, sweet home.

I respect anyone who cries for this story because it’s one of the greatest moments that made our nation so strong. This story showed how we were allowed to have a choice to believe in what we want, and fight for our passions and beliefs to our dying breath.
