Deafheaven also bought a drab majesty album. Then a few months later I saw Drab Majesty open up for Deafheaven in S.F. one of the best shows I've ever been to.

I really enjoyed both this and the Deafheaven episode. Great picks from both, some stuff I've heard of, and some cool sounding stuff I'm going to definitely check out. I really liked that he picked up a Dino jr. record, the last Deafheaven record definitely forayed into that 90's grunge/noise rock sound. If nu-metal can make a comeback, then why can't 90s noise stuff?

Amazing how this video alone revealed much more about Neige and Alcest's sound than most of his interviews. He was able to speak his mind without holding back about things he loves and completely fleshed out his taste in all types of music, videogames and movies with a few tasteful picks. This was the best!

Bumped into Neige the other day in the gundam section at a hobby/game shop called Surugaya in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Would love to see his 'what's in my bag' from that day, but didn't want to disturb him too much. Such a nice guy.

I saw Alcest open for Opeth at the roundhouse in london. I had never heard them before and hooooly shit they were awesome. Completely blew away Opeth.

P33 interesting. Musically they are quite different. Alcest uses mostly Natural minor and Dorian modes in their songs, while Opeth is all over the place but generally harmonic minor, diminished, etc. So generally the point I meant is that opeth is more dissonant and dark, alcest is significantly more melodic and ambient

Fun fact: The Dead Can Dance song featured at the start, 'Dawn of the Iconoclast', is sampled at the beginning of Future Sound of London's iconic dance track, 'Papua New Guinea'. And is also used in Gladiator.
Best episode! Neige's picks - as far as predictable they may be for those who follow Alcest - are really great and original
Original? It's only the biggest alt/indie/music nerd bands of the 90s and 00s, and a few well-known contemporaries connected to the band. What list by a 30-something pop music geek doesn't include Massive Attack, Dead Can Dance, Slowdive, Dinosaur Jr., Björk and at least some of the big crescendowanker post-rock bands? All it's missing is some Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, GY!BE, and Have A Nice Life, ffs.
I'm not knocking on the list, I found it very high quality but not exactly original or surprising. There was absolutely nothing (apart from the soundtracks) I wasn't already familiar with (except with the Chameleons only by name). And I am NOT a huge Alcest fan or particularly diehard about this type of music specifically.
Finally, someone recognized the genius of The Chameleon UK.
That was my favourite What's In My Bag so far. Neige has a brilliant music, movie and video game taste. 10/10 would hang.

Im so surprised. I love Alcest for years and now I see how he's got so similar taste in music. Explosions in the Sky, Anathema, Alcest and Slowdive are definitely my favourites on that alternate and melodic side, kind of music you listen and takes you on spiritual journey, nirvana and kind of untangles the noises of the world and it becomes more like a wave, aquatic as Niege says here. I'm also Grimes fan, Visions is very interesting to listen to from begging to end..haha Anerican Beauty is so twisted, ok 👍 I like the scene with bag floating. Niege respect!
