- See "Kings Guard at the Grand Palace" This was the King's Guard marching outside the Grand Palace to the enclosure in preparation for the arrival of the King. The emblem at the start was the emblem of the guard unit and the flag I believe was the royal flag. The King was going to go down the river by barge for a religious ceremony on the other side of the river.
I see alot of comments that baselessly claim that the uniform of the Honor Guard is a British ripoff. However, if you study the history of the Thai Military more, you will realize that this uniform was originally comprised of a sun helmet with a black plume. The black plume was seen as unwieldy and was soon integrated into the fabric of the sun helmet, this, over time, evolved into the shape it is today. It is unlikely that the helmet was intended to imitate the British bearskin due to its impracticality. In addition to this, the red color has always been center stage in Thai army uniforms since the 16th century. It was only during the 1800s when western uniform were introduced. The march style is German, due to Siam’s close relations with Germany. Even the march has more Prussian taste than most Asian marches, which either has elements of British or French styles. So, in conclusion, the Thai Royal Guard has a very complicated history and should not be judged so lightly with prejudice and ignorance.

"Claim" It doesn't mean stealing, but it means going to study and adjusting yourself and upgrading to keep up with European culture. King Rama V of Thailand was once a student and grew up in England. And he returned to reign in Siam (Thailand) and developed the royal family and reformed the Siamese (Thai) army to modernity. From the past who used only swords But developed to use European style guns.

This is the honor guard for the King of Thailand. They may look like the British Guards, but the style of marching is very different.

It's almost easy to mistaken the Thai Royal Guards (from afar) with those of the British Royal Guards (Grenadiers). This is simply because if you look at the historical point of view, the Kings of Siam (Thailand) during the colonization age sent their officers and scholars to the UK. With knowledge and learning experience, they've adopted the Western ways, especially British and prevented Siam (Thailand) from ever being colonized like other East Asian countries.

The western of the Royal Thai Army has been introduced by King Rama V who extensively travel to Europe. He chosen to emulate the british style of uniform as part of westernising the Royal Thai Army for many reasons red is the cheapest dye colour, red is the background of the Siamese flags as well as the army colours. The piece which is played is call Rajawallop or Royal Guards March since their are the Royal Guards it is logical for them to play the song.
Quick correction on the description: at the beginnning, the yellow flag was a crown prince's flag not the royal flag.
Also the goose step because like the Uniform from the British. The training doctrine is actually is from Germany, Who renders great help in establishing the back then "modern" Siamese Army.
And it is called Thai army, Siam no longer exists.

Sky Blue: Air Force
Yellow: Marine Corps and Royal Artillery
Red and Black: 1st Infantry, Kings Guard
Purple: 2nd Infantry, Queens Guard (used to be)
White and Pink: 3rd Battalion
All Pink: Air Force Security
White and Black: Engineer division
That's all I know, the others are either Cavalry or just more infantry
