I once bought a box of dried mealworms (so this was a lot more effort on my side than usual). I was so excited because I had read that they were very healthy food for crows (not that we humans were most fond of our healthiest food...). My spoilt brats ignored the mealworm bowl completely. My attitude was like: Eat this great food, will you! They ignored the bowl for two days. Then in order to accelerate progress they made their statement: They pooped in the mealworm bowl. I later read that dried mealworms were not even that healthy. In order to have good worms you either have to buy them frozen from animal food professionals or buy them alive and feed them for a few days. And don't use mealworms, use superworms (which are several times the size). I once did this effort. The crows happily ate the superworms but they did not seem impressed at all (healty != tasty). More on the level of almonds: They eat them without too many complaints if nothing else is there. With a single crow family worms might be an option. Especially as they are supposed to be great food for the nestlings. But I am feeding 15-20 crows and thus completely cancelled the worms (and house crickets). What is 100g of worms against 1kg of meat, fish, cashew, and some egg yolk... If they get all the food they need from me then they do not have to eat "garbage". You should see my crows! Perfect feathers, everyone. No malnutrition anywhere. They look like photoshopped... And the biggest ones aren't even afraid of adult cats! 😆
Interesting, I bought a jar of dried/dead mealworms once and my crows weren't keen on them. They did seem exceptionally dry and light though, these seem a little more fat.
