    I’m younger and have been a full time tech for a couple years doing mechanical and electrical work in florida. I learned quickly the boating industry, especially down here is the farthest thing from “cut and dry” and you really need experience. If your planning on doing your own work please listen to what he suggests and not what any other TH-camr or forum says. If your in my position where you have experience with everything boating except fiberglass you’ll be able to tell that he knows everything he’s talking about and you’ll know these videos are priceless.

    Great! 👍👍
    Thank you for this video. It clarifies many points. I undertood that polyester resin CAN dissolve the binding agent of the csm and therefore stick well to it while the epoxy can’t dissolve it and therefore don’t stick much to it. But polyester resin don’t need this binding agent (styrene most of the time i heard) to make a proper lamination.

    Subbed and binge watching to soak up knowledge. I’ve torn off the top cap on an 87 Chris craft sea hawk and hope to start rebuilding all of my stringers and transom with coosa this winter. I’ve been told this boat was made with DCPD resin but I have no way of telling. Can I reglass using vinylester resin? Thank you for making these types of videos.

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fantastic, welcome to the channel! There is a good chance that it was built using a DCPD resin as that is very popular with high volume builders. I don't know of a way to know for sure, though. Vinyl ester could be a good option for your rebuild, just be sure to put a very rough 24 or 36 grit grinder surface on everything that you will be fiberglassing over so that your resin can get a very good mechanical bond. I do have a 21 ft project boat that we will be putting a transom, stringers, floor, etc, in starting soon. Hope this helpsand thanks for watching!

    Really enjoyed that, a confidence booster that I’m doing most of by boat work correctly using resins and tools, but I’ve been fighting with sagging Gelcoat atop previous epoxy in certain repair areas, gotta prep it right. What’s the best poly resin to cover a small epoxied area so the Gelcoat with stick?

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you enjoyed the video! I don't recommend applying gelcoat over epoxy in most cases. Sometimes it will cure properly and sometimes it will not. I will be doing some more research and maybe a video on this topic soon hopefully. Thanks for watching!

    Love the thorough explanation that you are giving us. Now to throw you a curveball, from the Bass Boat guys. Is there a set weight of glitter to clear gel coat? I am getting ready to change the color of a badly oxidized boat that is solid glitter flake. I will be making multiple batches and would like to keep the glitter consistent. Thanks for any insight that you can give.

    Hey i was just wondering why you dont use arjay bonding putty never seen you use it just seeing if you never used it or you just dont like it cause i use arjay 2121 but haven't had it on boat long enough to know about longevity

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have used arjay putty in the past with good results. When making the videos I try to focus on the ones we use the most on your average DIY project. I might show some different materials as we move into different projects. I hope this helps and thanks for Watching!

      I don't typically use that method. I prefer one layer at a time, and rolling out each layer carefully to remove any air that might be between the layers. But that is just my personal preference. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    What is your opinion of Total Boat / Jamestown Distributors for resins and glass? I'm using 2oz CSM for glassing a yoga ball for a Halloween prop... is the 2oz csm too stiff?

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As far as I know they have good products. I have always preferred a lighter weight csm personally, usually 1 Oz. Just because it is easier to wet out and work with. I am sure the 2 Oz can work, but it will take a little more effort. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
