    Bought mine several years ago for $340 from Jomashop. It’s gotten lots of use and the polished bezel is all scuffed and dinged, but I love this watch. I’ve taken it swimming , hiking, vacations, daily work, evening out…it goes with everything, everywhere. I generally find field watches boring so really appreciate the day-date complication. This is a watch for life.

    I absolutely love my 42mm Khaki Field with the centralized day and date and the metal bracelet. It’s a phenomenal watch for the price. Mine runs consistently at +2 seconds per day and I couldn’t be happier with it.

    Nice review! Two weeks ago, I celebrated my 45th anniversary of employment at CNH Industrial. One of the 45th year rewards was this watch, with the stainless steel bracelet band. I love the Khaki King, and now wear it as my daily watch.

    Thank you so much for the review side-by-side. I've just bought the Khaki King and it was a really hard decision. What put me over the edge for the King was that the second hand was lumed whereas it is not on the Field. Somehow that seems more utilitarian to me and I appreciate that in a watch. Great job with the videos 👍🏻

    Went to an AD to pick up a Khaki Field Auto 38, and left debating these exact two watches. I honestly didn't care for the King beforehand, but trying it on I think I might actually like it more. Decisions decisions....

      Thanks for watching and excellent choice. I’m a big fan of Hamilton watches and the Khaki King is right at the top of the list. I sometimes wish I had gotten that instead of the Khaki Field 38mm but they’re both awesome.

    Strapcode states on their website that all bracelets for the Sarb017 (Alpinist) are compatible with the 38mm Hamilton Khaki, by seer coincidence.
    Given that choice, I’d go with the leather strap so you can change the branded buckle onto an aftermarket leather or sailcloth strap, and go with the strapcode super jubilee or oyster. Good review though!

    I have a 1963 hamilton watch and it runs great. I just purchased the Kahki King cream colored dial. OK I am a Hamilton fan from now on, its swiss made and is built so good. for the price I have a big problem with getting another rolex or tudor , for the cost I just dont see the value. Swatch group has a loyal customer, I get a better bang for my buck.

    I love everything about this watch except the loom it really barely works for more then 10s of minutes. Also I really wish it had the red seconds hand since the loomed white does nothing . I have basically worn it about 4 days a week for the last year and it is still running +2 or me. The only thing is the polished bezel gets pretty beat up over time

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't really care about lume too much. I never have had a situation come up where I needed to read a watch in total darkness and couldn't. That said you're right it's not great. But +2 seconds is great, that would be a keeper in my book.

    • @mariog7213

    I've got this particular model, and since added the correct part number steel bracelet, as the leather one was a bit too short for my taste. As for accuracy, I wear it 24/7 (except in the shower), and over a month's time, keeping track of it religiously against an atomic desk clock, it only has gained a total of 1 1/2 seconds over that month.Just incredible. Never seen accuracy like this in any auto I've owned.

    Luckily I got to try these all on at a local AD before buying my Khaki king on Jomashop. My wrist is 6.5 inches and the khaki King felt like the perfect size. I liked the 38 field as well. The 42 mm version of the field was to big for my taste though. I'd love to see a shot of the rolex, 38mm, and the king.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good choice going with the King, it's excellent. I wish I had a local AD that carried Hamilton but there's nothing in my area. That must be nice to have access to.

    • @mastermachetier5594
      @mastermachetier5594 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya I also do agree with your advice to get it on the bracelet. I found two great leather straps for a decent price. One that dress it up a lot imgur.com/WOxIV8L I plan on wearing this combo to my wedding. The other is more causal and looks almost identical to the Hamilton one www.amazon.com/Hadley-Roma-Genuine-Saddle-Leather-Strap/dp/B00M36QSLY just a bit darker color which i like. I also picked up a Hamilton deployment clasp online for under $40 bucks. All together both straps and the deployment clasp were $90. A leather strap or bracelet from Hamilton will run you $130 and up. So its certainly a better deal and you can save money but not getting a deployment clasp.

    • @misternobody4644
      @misternobody4644 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Finza Soeblakto Jomashop is legit, I bought from them. But they are strict on returns. If you remove any of the labels and/or scratch the watch, they'll send it back and it yours forever. I returned Hamilton watch (the one featured from Interstellar). They took a week to examine it with their experts (I imagine with microscopes) and then finally issued a refund.

    I own the Hamilton Khaki king with the black dial and its a great watch, but it really could use another 50-100 meters in water resistance and an anti reflective interior coating. Then it would be the absolute king of the field watches.

    I owned a khaki king, but over time the difficulty in winding the crown became a deal-breaker for me and I flipped it. I also prefer the red tipped second hand and the slightly bolder numerals on the 38 vs the king.

    Good review, however u mentioned this is a manualwind watch which is not. This is an automatic movement watch. U juz need to shake d watch a little bit to wake it into running mode. Not winding d crown. Otherwise all good. Really value for money for such material quality. Accuracy, 80hrs power reserve(khaki King II). I juz bought it few days ago. No regret.

    Fantastic review, as always. I had considered the Khaki Field for a long time and almost discarded the King for a while. Still want a 38mm one day, but these are gorgeous watches.
    Still think the Khaki mechanical is the best of the bunch, though! Manual wind and as true to its origin as possible. Just my opinion.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @itswitzmoab

    no one ever mentions that, while the second hand ticks from second to second, for some reason the dial shows the seconds divided by 5ths?!?

  • @ViolinistWilliam
    @ViolinistWilliam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fantastic review, as always. For me, the dimensions and dial layout of the King are absolutely superb, noticeably superior to the Auto in person, IMO. Highly personal take. The King not having anti reflective coating is a massive miss from Hamilton that I will never understand. If someone can explain to me why they didn’t add it, I’d love to hear the reasoning.

  • @agilagilsen8714
    @agilagilsen8714 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Honest opinion, I think the kakhi king is better looking with the day/date positioning and look.
    Which is why I bought that style, I did however grab the quartz version. The reason why is because the quartz can take a bit more of a beating before it is damaged, and to me that is a big part of why I got this "cheaper" type of watch.
    That said, the quartz has a visible 12 on the watch face, and that obviously isn't as good looking as the automatic version.
    But all in all it isn't big enough to make it off putting.
    Now, if you don't want the reliability of the quartz in terms of you not using it as a manual labour, hiking, or that sort of watch and more of a stylish everyday but mostly office type use. Then I would get the automatic, no question.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't seen the quartz version. The dial is a little different on it?

    • @agilagilsen8714
      @agilagilsen8714 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustBlueFish Yes, but only a little. If you just give it a passing glance it looks identical. But the main difference is that on top over the day you can see the top of the number 12 on the quartz.

    Hi. I own the khaki field mechanical 2018 no date which you have reviewed but I am still thinking about getting the khaki king as they seem to me as completely different style watches. What is your opinion? Should I think about something different instead like i.e. Sinn 556i? Thank you.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 2018 Mechanical and the Khaki King would be a great combo. I'd get the Khaki King on the bracelet for more versatility, and have the Mechanical available for all sorts of straps.

    I'm having the opposite problem. I'm thinking anything under 42mm is going to be annoyingly small. I have a 40mm homage to the Daytona at 40mm and it just seems petit. Hamilton has some 42mm khakis but they're different enough to keep me bouncing around with the decisions. This is why wrist shots are important. It gives us a reference for the size. You know you watch too many review videos when you know all the reviewers wrist sizes...lol

  • @mikek453
    @mikek453 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very good video. Can you tell how the Khaki Field 40mm comparing to 38mm? How it wears. I'm now trying to choose between those two - 40mm or 38mm. Thanks!

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On my wrist, which is 7" they wear very similar. The King is slightly bigger but I don't find it oversized. I like them both equally and it would be a hard choice to pick either, but the size difference isn't much of a factor. I'd only be concerned if I had really thin wrists. Then I'd go with the 38mm.

    • @mikek453
      @mikek453 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much for the answer! Yes, I see that they are very similar on your wrist. I have 6.5 wrist. Have you experienced a Khaki Field (not King) in 40mm?

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have any experience with the 40mm Field. You know another option to consider is the 38mm Officer Handwinding model, reference number H69419933. The strap it comes on is a little uninspiring but I've been attracted to that one and would like to check it out. It's only handwinding, not auto, but it really has an old school vintage look that is appealing and a pretty nice price point.

      @JustBlueFish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hamilton frequently makes minor changes to their watches without updating their website or informing retailers and consumers. It's mildly annoying, i had to to play Sherlock Holmes to figure out they had changed over their movements to the H series from the older ETA when I bought my first Khaki Field and the movement was obviously not the same as what was pictured online.

    The exhibition case back is mineral, the mainspring is silicon.

    The 38mm has much cleaner look. The clasp has only 2 micros and that's almost a deal breaker for me, having had bad experience with the sarb035 not being able to get perfect fit.

      On the Hamilton there enough space that you can take it to a jeweler and have then drill out a few extra holes in the clasp. It’s annoying that you have to do that but that’s what I did.

    I agree with Briman2183. I can see the difference between the beat rates as well. IMO, Hamilton should remove the sub-second tic marks on the dial. It would make the sweep of the 21,600 VPH movement appear much smoother.

    I bought this watch from Amazon about two weeks ago.
    It has stopped twice now, both times in the middle of the night.
    Any advice as to what I can do?

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’d test the power reserve. Set the time and date to 12am on the 1st. Hand wind the watch by spinning the crown 40 to 50 full rotations. Set the watch down and let it run. It should last roughly 80 hours so it shouldn’t stop until after 12am on the 4th. If it doesn’t last that long I’d get in touch with Amazon and request an exchange.

    The WR at 50m is poor for a watch. Also, every picture & video I've seen the watch scratches up too easily. Pity, it's a nice watch but too many negatives for me.

  • @seanliew7343
    @seanliew7343 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing that attracts me on this watch is the full sized day and date complications. It’s very practical. The dial is way too cluttered and distracting in a sense too many numerals. Obviously because of the hype and affordability I will get one and try to brag about it and complement the hype.

    Seiko Sarg009 is king of field watches

      It’s nice but disagree. All hail king Hammy!

    • @MatthewMorse
      @MatthewMorse 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The SARG009 is about a $500 watch (give or take a few bucks depending on where you buy it, I've seen it as low as like $419). The Hamilton is like $365 typically, sometimes as low as $325 or so). So there's anywhere from a $50 - $175 difference in price depending on where you buy it, which version(s) you consider, etc.
      I'm not sure the SARG is worth up to 50% more money.

    Between that AWFUL day of the week window and only 50m water resistance, the Khaki King is a big fail for me. Field watches need at least 100m water resistance because being durable is the WHOLE POINT of being a field watch.

    • @ichris2011
      @ichris2011 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The original field watches that were used by militaries in the 60s onward were just marked "water resistant". They were most likely equivalent to a modern 30m watch and they did just fine. Needing over 100m for use in water is a myth. You could swim with a 30m watch if it's new and from a reputable brand.

    After 12 minutes of listening to the gentleman ramble on about virtually nothing except the two mm difference to his other Hamilton I had to turn it off. What's up with that? Enough about the size.

  • @jimbeam4140
    @jimbeam4140 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It could be the best made most efficient watch in the world but I still wouldn't buy it because of that stupid day of the week window that takes up a huge chunk of space at the top of the dial. POOR design.
