So appreciate your time with the tutorial and sharing the pattern. What a thoughtful person you are. I am going to use clothes line rope with your pattern! Wish me luck on this endeavor. The colors of your basket are my favorites along with a sand light tone. Great tutorial and positioning of your work for ease in understanding the placements for me.
Thank you so much for the kind words. Now...about this clothes line rope...I've never heard of anyone trying to crochet with clothesline rope. Isn't it too thick? I'm dying to hear how this works out for you. I love a sand tone as well. I'm working on a new crochet top design that uses a very subtle, light grayish/sandyish variegated yarn. Thank you for watching anc commenting.
Couldn’t have said it better. What size basket does this make? I just found a small table that looks like it is missing a drawer & naturally I can’t find one the size it needs so I thought I might attempt to crochet one since I know how to crochet. The size I’m needing to make is 14x8x3” 🤦🏻♀️
I found in doing this basket you need to use chunky weight yarn. I used Bernat Blanket chunky weight # 6 I also used 2 strands of yarn. Mabe mine bigger & it's not collapsing. Hope this helps!
Beautiful! Wondering HOW stiff the sides of the basket become. Obviously a knit winter hat turned upside down would be utterly FLOPPY, but how would this compare with the commercially available "cubby" bins as far as stiffness for the structure?
Thank you! The sides are not stiff like plastic cubbies. However, once you fill the basket with just about anything, it does hold its shape nicely. Enjoy!
Thank you! I didn't realize my mistake with the dark color until I was deep into the video. I did bring in the lighter color one for some clarity. This written version has much better photos: crazycoolcrochet.com/crochet-rectangle-basket-with-handles/
You can try a #5 but it won't hold it's shape. It already is not quite stiff enough with a #6. If you try doubling up on the #5 it might be too hard to work with, but I might try that (and a larger hook). Of course that will require double the amount of yarn. Thank you for watching!
If I wanted the rectangle base of the basket to be more squat (say an 8” x 12” rectangle) how many stitches would you recommend I start with in the initial chain? Chain 35 seems to make a much longer/skinnier basket, and I want mine much closer to a square shape.
Thank you for the video though I wish you could have shown where the 12 hdc go along the short sides. I see you’ve said space them evenly but that doesn’t seem to be helping me much. I have no idea where the stitches go and it’s throwing everything else off.
Hi Alex. I'm sorry for your frustration. I wanted to reply right away so you can continue working. At 2:09 it shows where you enter the hook. Just enter in the available openings along the side. Hope this helps somewhat.
Crazy Cool Crochet thanks so much for the quick reply. I’m sure most ppl don’t have my problem, I’m just relatively new to crocheting and this video is a bit advanced for me. Thanks again and stay safe
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I work with only natural light and am constantly "chasing the light". Usually, it's not as much of a problem as it was the day I shot this video. I will try to be more mindful going forwrd!
You can just use the pattern as-is. It fits 3 larger rolls perfectly. Here is the written pattern: crazycoolcrochet.com/crochet-rectangle-basket-with-handles/
Thank you Christine. At about the 2:50 mark you start the first standing row. At about 5:10 I say that you have been working into each stitch of that row and have kept the count the same. There are no extra stitches in the corners. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the question. This is not big enough for a Moses basket. The dimensions are in the description area below the video: 5.5 inches high, 16 inches long, 6 inches wide. You can make the bottom wider and then adjust the rest of the pattern to fit. You might want to use a stronger yarn as well. This will cave in if it's too big.
Since it's made exclusively with yarn, the sides won't be stiff. However, it does hold its shape nicely when you place things in it. Thank you so much for watching, trying and commenting! I do appreciate it.
@@loving-heart Ah yes! I love using these baskets as gifts! And what makes them even more personal and special as gifts is adding some goodies to the basket. Not only do the sides stand up better, but the gift itself will be that much more appreciated and loved.
@@CrazyCoolCrochet sorry for not answering sooner. I didn't get a message about it unfortunately. My friend loved it. Now I have crocheted a nice blanket for her and still busy making a nice pillow to go with it. She has her birthday in October. I love her a lot. She is always there for me and we laugh a lot. So I wanted to make her a really personal gift to show her how much I appreciate her. I would have loved to add a picture here but that's not possible. So TH-cam please add the possibility to add a pic to an answer. How hard can it be😋🤪
Once you fill the basket it's fine and holds its shape well. If you want to keep it empty you might need to try a #6 yarn that is not so soft. You can also try #5 yarn and double it up; use two strands for the entire project. Thank you for your comment!
I have been making lots of "pandemic crochet" baskets and I like to double the bulky yarn to make a basket that holds its shape. It's a little tough on the hands but they come out great.
I just finished mine and it’s so flimsy!!! How can I make it more stiff like a basket? I’m thinking about putting some wire in it otherwise I’m not real pleased with this…
My first question of course has to be...did you use a #6 yarn? Yes, this will collapse on itself when it's empty. The point of it is to fill with "stuff". LOL. It will absolutely hold up once you place things in it.

You can use Yarn Bee macrame 5mm Rope. Holds up the sides. Works great!

Why did u do it with dark yarn.
What a nice rectangle basket. It was a little hard to see with the dark color.

How much weight yarn needed for this size basket?

With six rows, how can you stitch 12 on the short side? She there be 12 rows?
The flat bottom correctly has 6 rows. You then need to work along the short sides, evenly placing 12 st's. Hope this helps.
@@CrazyCoolCrochet how can you place 12 sc if you only have 6 rows? 2 sc in ea stitch?
@@tinaanderson3218 Yes, you can enter 2 hdc per row. Crochet is an art, not a science. LOL. You don't need to work stitch for stitch.

Does the 2 chain before turning count as a HDC?Do I have to make 33 HDC or 34?
Hi Eva. You do not count the turning chain as a hdc. You will create 34 hdc's. Hope this helps!
