    Simple words aren't enough to express how much I love this soundtrack. Each track is loaded with charm and personality... Konami were at the top of their game at the time. It's a pity, they didn't give the 16bit jet black beauty enough attention..

      Konami was one of the only prime Japanese developers to actually give a cent too, releasing a bonafide Castlevania, Contra and this. Capcom nor Square, nor Irem, Natsume gave a rats ass over the awesome Gen/MD, and that's pretty sad. A large amount of potential never seen.

      Retro Soul And don’t forget the awesome TMNT game! Well, Capcom at least licensed and/or developed a bunch of games for the MD/Genesis: Forgotten Worlds, MERCS, Strider, Ghouls N’ Ghosts, Chiki Chiki Boys, Street Fighter Special Champion Edition, Super Street Fighter II, MegaMan: the Wily Wars, Saturday Night Live: Slam Masters, The Punisher and The Great Circus Mystery starring Mickey and Minnie. So, there’s that! Cheers and Peace!

    This game not being adapted into a classic 90’s anime is one of the great missed opportunities in pop culture. All of the aesthetic ingredients were there.

    • @brorianszk
      @brorianszk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not sure it's a good idea. Look at what they have done to Mario and Sonic.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@brorianszk I have never seen an animated Mario. Sonic had several animated iterations and they were... ok there was the nonsensical and memorable SatAM which i guess works well enough with what the games were going for, and there was the Sonic X, actual anime, which was completely average and easy to ignore, but... you know, it's easy to match or beat the likes of Pokemon and Sailor Moon on quality, and those somehow became pop culture legends.

    • @brorianszk
      @brorianszk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SianaGearz There wasn't much to see in Mario but I don't remember well. All I remember is the rap music of the opening or ending :)
      Nothing cute or memorable with the drawings but it entered the pop culture too.
      For Rocket knight they already started to hurt the character with the second game. No need to go further :D

      man I was looking through the manual for this game and honestly I think they were trying really hard to encourage something like that to happen. weirdly detailed story, some elements of which never show up in game... for instance Rocket Knight has a disgraced master who has a personal beef with the main antagonist. the character designs are cute enough too that they totally could have had a jaleel white sonic type thing goin on

      It really goes to show how powerful, versatile, and capable the Genesis was in the hands of a dedicated composer that understood the power of FM synthesis. I imagine it has to do with Konami having such a huge presence in the arcade where FM sound was the standard, so their composers likely cut their teeth on Yamaha chips and could adapt that to the Genesis hardware.

    Aki Hata is an absolute FUCKING legend. Probably hands down one of the most underrated composers of all time. From doing absolutely genius avant garde tracks on Light Crusader to doing the Azumanga Diaoh OST, a soundtrack that to some is seen as the greatest anime soundtrack of all time.

    The trumpet sounds more higher quality than the trumpets I hear in other Genesis games, even Genesis games with good soundtracks. I think they made this soundtrack so good because they went for an orchestral type of music for some of the songs, but they weren't afraid to use the strong synth capabilities of the Genesis to their advantage.

    One of the best games ever made and highly replayable, with a soundtrack that's up there with SOR2 and TF4. Bought the sequel "Sparkster" right away... Boy, what a disappointment. Someone really killed the goose with the golden eggs at Konami with that one!

    This is an awesome soundtrack to this awesome game. Every track is better than the next, it really grabs the essence of the level and that of the boss fight.
    It is so genius this was and forever will be.
    The golden years of Konami, man.....

    I've heard this game sounds off on a Model 1 Genesis. Apparently, the game was made for the Model 2 Genesis and playing it on a Model 1 makes certain synth patches sound strange. I played the game on a Model 1, VA6, High-Deginition Graphics, TMSS System, start to finish and I didn't notice anything out of place that I didn't hear from this upload.
    Anything strange I did hear was Stereo separation screwing with me, because my PC Speakers are only in Mono and I'm so used to that. That and my CRT sounds weird when in Stereo. In Mono through the TV Speakers or Stereo through a pair of headphones, it's fine.
    I wanted to know if the game does sound any better on a Model 2 and what Model and Board revision of the console was used to play and upload this. Thanks in advance!

      The game sounded perfect on my model 1 too. I spent hours in the sound test so I know what I'm talking about.

    I never had a Genesis as a kid and I've never played this game, but I came here, because I read that this was one of various games that one or more composers involved in Super Castlevania IV and Contra III worked on, and those two soundtracks are miraculous. This one is not like those but it seems unusually good so far (12 minutes in).
