Konami was one of the only prime Japanese developers to actually give a cent too, releasing a bonafide Castlevania, Contra and this. Capcom nor Square, nor Irem, Natsume gave a rats ass over the awesome Gen/MD, and that's pretty sad. A large amount of potential never seen.

This game not being adapted into a classic 90’s anime is one of the great missed opportunities in pop culture. All of the aesthetic ingredients were there.

Sonic had several animated iterations and they were... ok there was the nonsensical and memorable SatAM which i guess works well enough with what the games were going for, and there was the Sonic X, actual anime, which was completely average and easy to ignore, but... you know, it's easy to match or beat the likes of Pokemon and Sailor Moon on quality, and those somehow became pop culture legends.

All I remember is the rap music of the opening or ending :) Nothing cute or memorable with the drawings but it entered the pop culture too. For Rocket knight they already started to hurt the character with the second game. No need to go further :D
man I was looking through the manual for this game and honestly I think they were trying really hard to encourage something like that to happen. weirdly detailed story, some elements of which never show up in game... for instance Rocket Knight has a disgraced master who has a personal beef with the main antagonist. the character designs are cute enough too that they totally could have had a jaleel white sonic type thing goin on
Konami really knew how to make the most of the Genesis sound chip. So many convincing and well-utilized timbres, there are moments you forget this is Genesis.
It really goes to show how powerful, versatile, and capable the Genesis was in the hands of a dedicated composer that understood the power of FM synthesis. I imagine it has to do with Konami having such a huge presence in the arcade where FM sound was the standard, so their composers likely cut their teeth on Yamaha chips and could adapt that to the Genesis hardware.
Aki Hata worked on this OST. Aki Hata is an absolute FUCKING legend. Probably hands down one of the most underrated composers of all time. From doing absolutely genius avant garde tracks on Light Crusader to doing the Azumanga Diaoh OST, a soundtrack that to some is seen as the greatest anime soundtrack of all time. To put it lightly, she is a Renaissance lady.

I don't really know the limitations but compared to everything I've heard on this console this is the OST that catches my attention for it's composition and pure clear sound all the time. There is no challenger.

Has to be played on a Model 1 Genesis, no later revision as each iteration messed sound up more and more. The preferred way to play games like this, the absolute original run models of the Model 1.

That level 1 music still sticks with me to this very day. I would rent this game a lot as a kid when it was available, and I remember being proud that I could beat it pretty easily.

I look at my Mega Drive with Rocket Knight game inserted.. thinking: "oohh... today is a beautiful day to skip school and play this gem!" xD The only reason I paused the game was when Level 2 started to increase the TV's volume, i love that track!
I feel like I owned all these old Genesis carts at some point, but I don't have many of them now... people always used to borrow them and never give them back for whatever reason. Now, 20-some years later, I'm wishing I wouldn't have lent them out.
Castle of Illusion & this game are my top 3 fav. genesis games and Konami's best game they ever did. How this game gonna be perfect yet the sequels be kinda ass?! That makes no sense and the Stage Boss theme is so godly!
The trumpet sounds more higher quality than the trumpets I hear in other Genesis games, even Genesis games with good soundtracks. I think they made this soundtrack so good because they went for an orchestral type of music for some of the songs, but they weren't afraid to use the strong synth capabilities of the Genesis to their advantage.
This game totally deserves another chance at a comeback. No one liked or remembered that 360 game from years back, so when Konami gets a brain, they should at least get someone like WayForward or Inti Creates to help make a high-quality 2D remake or reboot.

I've heard this game sounds off on a Model 1 Genesis. Apparently, the game was made for the Model 2 Genesis and playing it on a Model 1 makes certain synth patches sound strange. I played the game on a Model 1, VA6, High-Deginition Graphics, TMSS System, start to finish and I didn't notice anything out of place that I didn't hear from this upload. Anything strange I did hear was Stereo separation screwing with me, because my PC Speakers are only in Mono and I'm so used to that. That and my CRT sounds weird when in Stereo. In Mono through the TV Speakers or Stereo through a pair of headphones, it's fine. I wanted to know if the game does sound any better on a Model 2 and what Model and Board revision of the console was used to play and upload this. Thanks in advance!
I never had a Genesis as a kid and I've never played this game, but I came here, because I read that this was one of various games that one or more composers involved in Super Castlevania IV and Contra III worked on, and those two soundtracks are miraculous. This one is not like those but it seems unusually good so far (12 minutes in).
So happy all 3 games finally get get ported and physicals for current gen consoles. 2 of my favorite Sega games back in the day. Never played the 3rd installment. Only thing sucks its thru Limited Run and takes forever to get released and shipped😅

The best part of this game is its replayability factor. This game just doesn't get old. It is as fun the fiftieth time around as it is the first.
I've tried crazy hard mode once. I went really far but you take one hit and you're game over !
I just got a genesis mini and I hacked it just to play Rocket Knight on it. It's that good. Given I'm 35 lol.

I've heard this game sounds off on a Model 1 Genesis. Apparently, the game was made for the Model 2 Genesis and playing it on a Model 1 makes certain synth patches sound strange. I played the game on a Model 1, VA6, High-Deginition Graphics, TMSS System, start to finish and I didn't notice anything out of place that I didn't hear from this upload.
Anything strange I did hear was Stereo separation screwing with me, because my PC Speakers are only in Mono and I'm so used to that. That and my CRT sounds weird when in Stereo. In Mono through the TV Speakers or Stereo through a pair of headphones, it's fine.
I wanted to know if the game does sound any better on a Model 2 and what Model and Board revision of the console was used to play and upload this. Thanks in advance!
The game sounded perfect on my model 1 too. I spent hours in the sound test so I know what I'm talking about.

I never had a Genesis as a kid and I've never played this game, but I came here, because I read that this was one of various games that one or more composers involved in Super Castlevania IV and Contra III worked on, and those two soundtracks are miraculous. This one is not like those but it seems unusually good so far (12 minutes in).
Can't wait to play this on PS4 this year
So happy all 3 games finally get get ported and physicals for current gen consoles. 2 of my favorite Sega games back in the day. Never played the 3rd installment. Only thing sucks its thru Limited Run and takes forever to get released and shipped😅
