Full replay of Brazil's Arthur Zanetti winning the gold medal in the men's artistic gymnastics rings even in the North Greenwich Arena at the London 2012 Olympic Games (6 August).
China's Chen Yibing won silver in the event with Italy's Matteo Morandi claiming bronze.
Artistic gymnastics was introduced at the very first Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, and has been present at every edition of the Games since then. At the beginning, it comprised disciplines that are difficult to qualify as "artistic", such as climbing and acrobatics.
The foundations of the Olympic gymnastics programme were laid at the 1924 Games in Paris, when the men's apparatus individual and team competitions appeared. In 1928, women were included in the Amsterdam Games. It was not until 1952 that the women's programme was developed, with seven events, and then stabilised at six events as from the 1960 Games in Rome.

Volleyball was conceived as a less strenuous alternative to basketball. The sport became popular very quickly and made its Olympic debut in 1964.

the chest and arm's muscles of these guys are unbeliveable
And the back
And AB stability
True as rock
That too earned without a single drop of steroid.
only year and years of training. Since 5 or 7 years old
in my opinion... gymnasts are the ultimate athletes... amazing strength, agility, flexibility, gravity defying moves... just amazing.
True that!
true beauty and strength combined....I love it :P !
True, but their lower body strength is a bit disproportionate. I do rings (muscle ups, front and back levers, iron cross, l-sits etc.) and combine them with snatches and cleans for power (fast strength) generation. Lots of physical therapy stuff with bands and slanted boards too. As a former MMA fighter I value health and balance more than most.
@@retardno002 fully agree with you that. Gymnasts' legs arent compatible to their upper body strength but if their legs get too big it wont be enough comfortable for them to do skills like planche, maltese, victorian cross,....
Arthur Zanetti coming from a country where support for this sport is zero, getting there is unbelievable having the feat of going out with gold is a God !!!
I've been watching the Olympics since 1996, and I still can't believe these guys can hold these poses.

Can we all just acknowledge for a second that Iordan Iovtchev is 39 years old and made it to the olympic finals in the rings?! That's freaking amazing! Many people I talk to think that just because you get old your body is still with it if you keep exercising, but that's just true! I don't think people realize that like car parts in a car, the more you drive the car, the more you'll need to replace parts to make it run smoothly and our bodies are the exact same way. It's not about the energy (although keeping up energy is a factor-yes) that keeps your body going when you get older, it's about the good parts that you have left and can get warn out very quickly! This guy looks so fit, but I can tell you at age 39, I'm SURE (especially doing gymnastics), his parts are worn and torn, yet he still makes it to the top ten and doesn't even come in last. This is his six olympics- six! Good on you man and may your parts not have to be replaced soon! Let's have respect for people like this and be understanding of people in their 50's and up who may take a lot more time to get moving. It's simply because their parts are worn out! (FIY it's not an old person writing this, I'm only 33).
Be honest he looks over 50 yrs old
the problem with your analogy is a human is not a car machine. you can not replace human parts with new one. energy could be maintain but there is a difference when one is younger who does not make optimum of its training to maintain optimum strenght.
@@diosdadoapias alot of things on a human can be replaced? Hips, knees, rotators cups. Then they can be reinforced with metal if they break. Tissues can also be replaced, such as ligaments and tendons valves. Either from cadavers, donor humans, or animals with similar tissue structure that mimics a humans. So the human body could very well be compared to a car, or machine. All are complex systems, always looking to be improved for the future.
Yes, just like Oksana Chusitivina of Women's Artistic Gymnastics! She's having her 8th Olympics in Tokyo :)
He looks older than 39
Zanetti's shoulders are on the same level of his hands all the time, and this is how gymnasts are supposed to hold their positions. Chen's shoulders are always higher than they should be. Also, Zanetti kept his positions for more than two seconds while Chen had trouble holding for that long. The way Chen lands his dismount makes him lose 0.1 for keeping his feet apart, while Zanetti's step on landing only costs him 0.1 as well. Zanetti is the undisputed champion. If you think otherwise, read the code of points.
well in the code of points it says that the shoulder needs to be at the same height as the rings not the hands. Making Chen's holds without a deduction except for one of his maltese holds at the end of his routine. It was close and to the judges discretion, But Chen was not getting deductions for height in his routine, probably mainly being deducted for false grip on every skill (-0.7).
Chen yibing still should have one
Agreed. Zanettis first planche was wobbling all over the place. Chess movements were so smooth w minimal movement
Bro thats called protraction holding a dead maltese doesn't make it harder or anything the maltese should be slightly higher your shoulder should be slightly higher than your hands cuz look at zaneti it looks like he is doing a back lever and not a maltese and im not spitting words like that even Van gelder held his maltese sligthly higher to show that he is not in back lever also zaneti DID A STRADDEL PLANCHE AT THE OLYMPICS why was he able to do maltese but not simple planches when plance is supposed to be easier than maltese CUZ his maltese was dead maltese almost back lever thats why smh

Gymnasts have much much better looking bodies than any bodybuilder
Meade77 i agree
Upper body maybe, lacking in the leg department compared to bodybuilders though
Kyle Campion Not lacking at all :-) Have a look at athletes like Jake Dalton & Courtney Tulloch. Both have well defined legs that are noticable but at the same time aren't oversized.
Best bodies in general are wrestlers
not the heavy ones tho, since they have a lot of fat as well as muscle since they dont have to cut weight
OMG I cried when they said 15.900 ¡UNBELIEVABLE!

I will never forget this. Zanetti was freakin supporting the weight of his body on the.rings, horizontally, with his fingertips. Y'ain't really supposed to be immune from gravity... still one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
All of them are amazing, as a Calisthenics beginner I love what those people are doing and the pain/time they took to make all of this ART, and Zanetti was just perfect.
Respect to them 💫💚
Both Zanetti and Chen had absolutely stunning performances, and a lot of people saying Chen was robbed. However, I have to agree with the judges on this one. Chen's shoulder's positioning in his crosses cost him the gold, despite having a better landing. Overall Zanetti had better alignment and execution.
Yep that shoulder position probably cost him gold
should we talk about zanetti fake blocked malteses ? still can't belive he is so overrated. Still a scandal.
@@Alan-ec9yx what do you mean? I just started watching gymnastics, but for me his execution looked perfect.
Виктор Кучма when you perform a maltese you support yourself with straight arms along the body, in his maltese Zanetti is blocking his arms under his back, it’s not anymore the shoulder and core strenght in arms it needs maming the skill much more easy
Gringos aceitem que doi menos.
Chen was so happy and adorable! His excited winks and stuff was adorable lol All of these men are amazing
Chen had a good landing, but you have to account for the fact that they also get deducted for legs being apart on landing, along with even the slightest execution errors, like the way his body was too high above his hands on his Maltese crosses.
and i have trouble doing pull ups... :(
Same bro same
Marshin72 They can do it, but who told u they have no trouble?
Marshin72
You're Not alone
The more you practise, the better you get
That Olympic gymnast experience your situation too.We all begin in zero
Chen used a false grip/over grip(using a bend wrist rather than a straight wrist like others) on most of his elements. Judges can deduct marks from you when you use a false grip. It is much harder to do those strength elements with a straight wrist.

'it's gonna be hard to beat"...but,but, but, then came Zanetti ....
+Cláudia L
Anything is easy to beat if you have judges preferences.
This result is definitely controversial.
Both had 6.8 on difficulty, while Zanetti received 9.1 on execution, 0.1 more when it was obvious when watching the video he made more mistakes than the silver medalist (landing is good but not perfect, very apparent shaking at the beginning and at the end).
Congratulation to Brazil, Zanetti is definitely one of the best, but this time his victory is a salty one.
@Allen Clw , Are you serious? Did you miss how Chen has overgrip in all his holds, too high malteses and for his crosses he goes way too high and then lowers to the hold. Whereas Zanetti had flawless strength elements, overgrips only in his 2 malteses, his only clear mistake was that one step on the landing. If something here was wrong it was Chen getting way too many points just for being the previous olympic champion.
Hahahah true
Entrou por último e terminou em primeiro!💚👏🥰
Lindo. Lindo. As duas medalhas.
clearly zanetti owned this event, those positions were just beautifully held throughout the routine, the only flaw was the dismount. All these guys are great.. it's just a matter of perfection!
It's better to take one small step than risking to the knees or having a big stumble. And they are supposed to land with their feet close together. Chen had his feet wider apart which gave him an advantage.
People still wondering why Chen lost - Azarian cross held too high, maltese too high, whippit cross caught high and lowered, second maltese high, slight wobble in handstand, feet very far apart on landing, false grip every strength skill.
You have to be extremely critical if you want a real explanation for results. If you compare routines, you will notice now probably that Zanetti's strength moves are all level, some with no false grip, this makes a huge difference.
Masterii are you supposed to do the moves with normal grip, not false grip? I guess it requires more strength than false grip? Or why?
Zanetti lands all his skills too low :) his shoulder are even higher than his legs sometimes.. really bad form
@@devidzoga3799 yes really bad, how could I miss that...

Zanetti perfect
He clearly had a better execution. Why is it so hard for you people to accept that a gymnast from South America can be better than the others for once? Drama queens.
Clara Lins it's cause of Chen's stuck landing. It was a close final
He rested upside down for half his routine. That he won is ridiculous.
lol, that "CLEARLY"
Obviously because you have a narrow mind. Thinking South American nationalities can produce gold metal wearing athletes!? Seriously use your head????
Who are "you people"!?
So crazy how with the men the announcers are like, "He's only 22, so we'll see him in Rio," and with the women, they're like, "She's 19, she's over the hill."
Male muscle power usually peaks at mid 20s, while female muscle power peaks in early 20s
Blame evolution.
Well now it’s great to see that females also do return to the olympics again like Aly, Gabby, and Simone soon :)
@Everything Blessed You're right, strenght training is all about repetition of movement patterns, as you accumulate more time spent, if you're doing it right, you'll definitely be stronger... But for elite gymnasts, theirs strenghts are close to peak, and they have to keep a really high volume of training to maintain this level, therefore, recovery potential plays a huge role, so it's hard to keep up as the years go by (But 20's and early 30's are just fine). For women it's due to their flexibility, they don't need raw strenght that much, and as they get older they tend to have less estrogen (And more testosterone, women tend to get stronger around their 30's), wich impacts your joints constitution and makes harder to perform the moves. Of course there's a lot of variables to justify their peaks and their downs, but i pointed some reasons to start, it's not only about human performance, but human performance in elite gymnastics context.

Zanetti Execution score was higher then Chen
For all those arguing about them not having muscular legs. It's an Olympic sport event where your execution and performance is everything. Many of these isometrics require you to push from your waistline (centre of mass). Naturally it would be much easier to hold these positions if your centre of mass isn't shifted any lower than that. In fact, most calisthenics athletes prefer slim body and strong upper body muscles more than a traditional body building physique for the same reason. You need insane straight arm strength for these isometrics and if your centre of mass is more towards you lower body it will be a lot more difficult to execute them holds properly.
