Empty spools can be used to make stackable item drawers. There are designs for this on Thingiverse and Printibles. Each compartment can be made to slide or swing out, depending on design, it's a great project, and not too hard if you don't mind sacrificing the print time for them. Alternately if you're kinda handy, the compartments can be made from wood.
I have an X1C as I replaced my ender 3 with it, I have primarily used single color as I print supports and one off jobs, but seeing you use multiple colors makes me want to try. You break it down and make it look so simple. Great Job.
I accidentally find your tutorial and it is really good. This is the first time I know how to change color at which layer height I want. BTW we are using the same 3d printer P1S. Thank you.
1:48 I heard about this somewhere else, still need to try it myself. I’ve been saving my empty spools to roll my Christmas lights onto. There’s probably a little clip you could print also (using the last little bits of filament) that clips onto both the spool and the end of the lights to keep them from unraveling. Like I said, I havent tested this yet but it seems like it would work well!
yes i would love a more in depth tutorial for this program. Ive seen some stuff on hueforge and im super interested in using it once i get my Bambu Labs A1 with AMS Lite :)
This is pretty interesting! I've been making pseudo-woodblock prints by using rendered grayscale images (or color ones that I've converted and adjusted the exposure and contrast) and just bringing them directly into Cura. Cura will then ask you if you want the darker parts to be elevated and the lighter lowered or visa versa. It's simple but it's also a quick way to print out fonts for 3D signs and car/motorbike emblems. From here you can use them as-is, or use polystyrene and a vacu-former for something a little more weather-hardy if you're using PLA like I am.
My mind was blown when you chanced your colors with the layer slider on the preview screen… Didn’t know you could do that! So much easier than having to paint and guess what layer you’re drawing on 😎👍
Man, I need a video of how to do the illustrator portion in a free tool like inkscape. That is the only thing I'm having trouble with. I don't have illustrator and I've been having issues with understanding that
They look pretty cool! Btw you got a lot of filament haha I can see why throwing filament could trigger people. A see through could be really cool and also other shapes as well , you could even personalize them as well.
Good on you for reusing those spools! If you are looking for a way to reuse empty spools, I have just the way! If you are using bambu spools, you might want to consider printing the reusable spool carousel that you can see on bambu lab's channel. Another way is to purchase refills instead of new filaments with spools on bambu lab's store, iirc, you can get 4 dollars off on a new spool, you might also be able to get some out of stock colors!
i really like your videos macy. so authentic and great insights in your workflow. I am running a 3dprint shop on etsy as well and your videos are very inspiring. Actually i have an old but heavily customized ender3 and becaus of your videos i think i will buy at least one bambu lab this year :)
If you have not done a video in Hueforge by itself, you should. There is some content out there, but plenty of space for another voice. You taught me about the describe file as I was not aware :) Much easier than keeping both files open and going back and forth. Thanks
I think bookmarks are a good category to add to your product theme of teacher table top accessories. Try a top surface pattern of hilbert curve for your hueforge prints And lastly there are ways to 3d print on top of transparency paper. You could use a laser/inkjet printer to print designs on transfer film, mount it on the build plate and 3d print the bookmark ontop of it. It wouldn't be 3d but you'd have a cool design that supports more colors and it would probably print way faster.
great video, this is the first time I understand how the Hueforge actually worked, so yes please make a full tutorial if you did not already made one :) Subscribed btw ;)
Have you tried turning on ironing? Pro's is it would leave a really nice surface finish but con's are the extra time per print. Would be cool to see how it effects the overall look and feel of the bookmark !
How did you get the pattern to stay put while you moved the bookmark to different locations (around 7:30)? Whenever I apply a pattern to a shape, then move it or resize it, the pattern stays the same and just moves with the shape or gets bigger.
just a observation, you might want to consider for the bookmarks using the process devin from make anything channel uses to create his phone cases it produces a similar effect to hueforge but since its kind of a reverse printing (the bottom is the face up portion) its completely flat. (i know people can be weird/finicky!) I too am making bookmarks but unlike you mine are a mere 1 or 2 mm in thickness (so they are flimsy, but its plastic so it works!) and currently the only "pattern" i'm using are the patterns on the various build plate surfaces you can buy off amazon and i'm printing them in transparent petg and then attaching a ribbon and maybe a tassel. :D Keep up the great work on the videos and looking forward to seeing your outcome in Etsy for these (price and sales stats)!

I'll try and make a video on this soon but you'll need to add a pause when it's printing layer 3 so you can change the filament in spots 1 and 2 to colors 5 and 6, and then you'll need a pause during color 6 so you can change out slots 3 and 4 with the colors you'll need for 7 and 8. When you're slicing, assign color 5 to slot 1, color 6 to slot 2, color 7 to slot 3 and color 8 to slot 4, and then just make sure you add the correct pauses ^ and switch out the colors to the appropriate slots. A lot of moving parts but it's definitely possible!

After watching your video decided to try and make a bookmark for kids at my church. Not anywhere as fancy - no hueforge. Can you tell me what your final thickness is. I started with 2mm thick and I think that is too much
This is a great idea!! It even inspired me to give it a go myself. however I am running into issues.... When Hueforge spits it out, the curvature of my graphic is not there, it still tries to print the hard edge.. you can see the outline of the curvature in the print, but it still has a wonky hard edge. Any ideas as to what might cause this?
one more thing to note, the png file doesn't have the corners... I only see that when I get the file into hue forge. Not sure if anyone could explain this or not?
These look pretty cool, I'll have to try out HueForge. I wonder if this could somehow be used to make lithophane prints more realistic. Also, I couldn't exactly tell from the settings I saw in your video, but it looks like you may have used rectilinear patterns for the top surface infill based on the way the light reflects off of the surface of the bookmarks and accentuates regions of darker/lighter patches of infill which were laid in different directions. If so, you could try using the monotonic infill instead, which ensures it lays down the lines all in one direction and dramatically increases the visual consistency of the top surface. In any case, I've been enjoying your videos and keep it up :) giving you support from Holly Springs, NC.
Wow thank you I’ll give that a try! Once it says “can’t use that infill at 100%” I assumed it had to be the rectilinear since that what it changed to but now it know. ☺️
