Drilling underground gives it a 4 sec cool down, using it normally it's 8 seconds. Pretty neat
Additionally burrow + drill dash underground gives you full shields (caps at 325hp), so using this combo to engage is the intended playstyle. Burrow -> Drill Dash -> Charged up to burst out -> Primary fire in the air -> Drill Dash again -> Primary fire or melee to finish off

I don't understand why Venture get shields instead of overhealth. Getting shields makes no sense and breaks the consistency changes they made with health in OW2

Because they are fucking imposible to heal. They cant get healed with most supports while underground, and when they are not underground they are flying around so Ana and Mercy cant really follow them

@@samasaurus6 over health does not regenerate once it has been destroyed. plus since you have burrow, you get 4 seconds to chill so your shields can actually regenerate on their own. i think it would be a noticeable nerf to make it over health. not huge
Mfw burrow does more AoE damage than meteor strike.

Tbf that's because you see it coming from a mile away and have plenty of time to run away. Meteor strike appears much faster so they balance it that way.
Generally speaking a DPS should do more damage than a tank lol. Though it out damaging an ult is a little meh

Fun tip: You can cancel the Quick Melee into a Drill Dash. This does a pretty sick quick 140~ close range burst combo that shreds people
Shoot-Melee, Right click, Shoot-Melee. 380 burst damage if everything hits perfectly. but no one will stand still for that long.

@@magi1134 You can pull this off vs. a tank. Edit: actually I tested it and you can't do this combo if you cancel the first melee with right-click, because by the time you do your second melee your melee is still on cooldown. It's clunky.

I can handle myself very well as a Support. Today nearly every engagement with Venture was a very quick L for me.

Sup GM here - played yesterday Venture for one hr and one hr as sup against. So far I would say gets hard countered by brig if u know how to. You can bash out of burrow area and pack targets they drill. Deny them space by flare. Tried ana as well but hard no - also as Venture she was my go to target - has to Land sleep or dead
When I was playing Ana, she wasn't bad to play against, I beat most Ventures yesterday. I'm not sure how other supports would fair though, but Ana is a solid pick against her.

Venture is very hard to heal, which is probably why they have the passive shields. The Tunnel works like Mei block in that it cleanses Harmony orb and allied healing. I've had a lot of Ventures asking me for healing while they're underground. *_*
I feel like Ana is unpickable. I was heartbroken watching Venture sitting still underground and Ana’s shots firing right over top of them.

Really didn't notice that but then again I only got a few game using venture. My supports decide to play don't want die sim. And when I played support I was Lucio and moria and I be honest when and once they borrow I didn't pay action to there hp for a little bit
at least they can grab health packs while submerged
I think that’s the kick of venture. That’s the reason I guess they get over shield.
Also that’s great because they can’t just constantly get heals while diving.
This is a pretty balanced.
HOWEVER, Zen CAN heal them which makes Zen a good combo.
How tf you go from Mauga to this? This characters looks way more fun and unique
Mauga was designed a long time ago so it's probably by the previous designers. This hero is from the new designers.
For people who like to play Bastion, they gave them a tank with Mauga. For people who missed Doomfist as a DPS, they gave them Venture.

Just go Doomfist, if you are able to single out Venture with her 250hp, Doom can melt her in seconds

When I play Overwatch I really don't care about the gender of the characters.
One trick I learned so far is that dashing right as your burrow is going to expire extends it by the length of the dash

Perhaps a solution to those who feel the shield health passive is out of place would be to make 75 of their base health shields and change the passive to add Overhealth instead.
I find that burrowing towards enemies is just like wraith moding in, they’ll watch and wait for you then attack when you pounce out. Drilling in and melee combining then burrowing out seems to be a decent way to go
except burrow isnt a good escape option and i find myself dead more often

Ehh disagree. I think they’ll be decent, but I think like Soujorn, the hero will only feel “oppressive” at the skill ceiling and higher ranks. I think in ALL ranks they’ll be hard to eliminate. Kindve like Mei.

Bro I was so confused on what Freedo was saying until he clarified at the end. I legitimately couldn't tell if he was referring to the new hero or multiple heroes....
Best advice I have for using they/them is that you probably do it automatically when referring to someone you don’t know the gender of. An example is at ~8:44 in the video: “and all in on them, hit them with a melee[here referring to a singular hero, but saying them as there are male, female, and now non-binary characters].” It’s not as alien as you might first think. And maybe this doesn’t help. And that’s okay too.

As a support main, Venture is definitely strong and really tough to 1v1. You will definitely need to adjust your play style against a good Venture, but at least they are a genuinely fun addition to the game. I played for a few hrs yesterday and not once did I get tired or annoyed seeing them every single match like I do with characters like Sombra, Mercy, or Mauga who are junt unfun to play with or against.
It’s been a long long time since a new hero dropped and I thought “okay, this seems fair and balanced”

I think, after Playing Venture, the devs have made their OW2 Version of Doomfist. Venture feels VERY hard to play, but if you master the Cooldowns, I think they will be SUPER powerful. Going to take a lot of practice though. I do think that the Charged Launch on Burrow should be faster to trigger, or Underground movement to be slightly faster, as it feels a bit hard to get in proper position, as you're counting on someone to be Immobile. Also keep in mind, in the 1v1, the first Venture that burrows, looses.
Drill Dive also feels VERY Disorienting. I'm a Console Player, so it's probably not by much, but trying to find a target can get VERY hard.

Going into OW2 doom, ball, torb, brig all had their additintal armor or shield abilities converted to green overhealth. So why does venture make shield health? Does this mean it lasts long enough to regenerate?
It only lasts 3 seconds, so yes it can regen or be healed. But you will barely have it up or prob be hit in a fight so it's nothing broken by any means.
One possible reason is that the devs want you to gain ult charge from shooting Venture's "overhealth," and normal overhealth is coded not to give upt charge
Venture has to get up close and personal to do most of their damage without great escape tools (or ones that'll be on CD), which is why they probably get chonky, replenishable HP.
Idk if it’s just cause I’m in wood rank (low Diamond) but in my quick play experience so far Sombra is like an omega hard counter. If you just ride venture’s ass and hack them out of burrow and ANYBODY on your team is also looking in the general direction they’ll just explode.

The vertical hit on the ultimate is NOT TRUE. I got hit mid air as Mercy in Valk.
I felt super weak initially using Venture but after about an hour to get used to the range, Venture is super fun. Pacing feels a little like Mei but sneakier. Only thing I’d want is about another second in burrow
hey freedo. thanks first of all for putting out great overwatch content year in and year out. i play a lot less than i used to but i always enjoy seeing what's going on with the game and you're one of my go-to channels for that. i just want to throw out some encouragement: it's very cool that you're making the effort to include your nb fans, and i'm willing to bet they care a lot more about your sincere support than they do about you flubbing the occasional pronoun. a commitment to inclusion means a commitment to constantly learning, and you don't ever learn without making mistakes. the fans who value your support will understand.
I remember when rust linked your race to your steam ID and turned off all racial language filters and you got white middle class kids going “I don’t like how I can’t choose my race. It doesn’t affect anything but people keep being racist to me and I can’t change it. It’s not fair and I feel like I should be able to change it” and the devs are like UH HUH TELL ME ABOUT IT. The dash feels super nice and quick. Looking forward to seeing this hero in the hands of a pro and figuring out what they can do.

Yeah only two abilities and the dash probably feels better on right click. Like if genji had no alternate fire dash would be better on rc, I use mouse buttons for it anyway haha more responsive
@@tomorchard6660 I swapped Burrow to E cause Shift made zero sense. OW does this where they bind imo the worst possible key to the ability (Tracer Blink makes more sense on E, Recall on Shift, same with Hook/Breather).
@@Snarethedrummer of course it comes down to preference, but I feel like shift is a way better option for movement abilities and abilities that require some form of aiming, since it can be difficult to press E while using your movement keys, therefore making precise movement more difficult.
Dps doomfist rework is crazy.
Really. Clean way to make it tho. Swapped slam and ult. And then gave the primate more range and ammo.

Had a grand time with Sombra lol. Just hard focusing like with Doomfist or Zen and it was a pretty free kill. But I was surprised ppl were in favor of Venture, I never saw anyone doing any better than like 9-10 or 8-7
Personally, so far Venture has become my 2nd favorite DPS in the game.
My DPS rank is consistently about 800 SR equivalent lower than my Tank and Support for a pretty simple reason: Headshots.
I have the gamesense to position and take proper engagements. I peaked at GM5. But tank aim is very real for me. I love Venture because their power budget doesnt need to factor the ability to headshot, thus allowing their primary fire to deal good damage that is easier to hit, but has counterplay.
I love how telegraphed Ventuter's Burrow and pop up is (even if it is too large a radius for the damage it does IMO). I like that shielding blocks their Ultimate and it can only use the ground. I like the limited range on their weapon.
They feel great to play, and more importantly, feel good to mirror and play against. Best designed hero of OW2 since launch.
One thing that I think should change (which may be difficult) but if they are burrowed, they should not be able to pick up a health pack. I have not tried it yet, but I think Mei can pick up a health pack while in ice. That should also change. Other than that, they look quite strong, a massive skill ceiling and fun to play. I would bet they are going to nerf them just a little bit on release though.

They definitely need to be adjusted. At the very least their abilities should give overhealth and not shield that can be healed. They are going to be almost impossible for some characters to kill if they stay pocketed

i like the performance and playstyle of the character but man I don't think the model is really done. it feels like the lighting is off or something on the character model...just seems off with the feel of everyone else.
Venture is pretty good against some tanks like doom,omnic ram,and jq if you get the combos down

I won't take as hard a line as that, but I do think the strength of adaptive shield health on offensive characters is underrated.
Probably because it comes in relatively low batches, and is the first portion of health that takes damage, so it's a less obvious observation.
On top of mitigating the consequences of the DPS passive.

They seem SO amazing, I love the personality and Va they went with ❤, also a cool note is their VA Valeria Rodriguez is also NB and has been an OW fan/player since the beta in 2016. I think it's cool that OW made sure that the hero had a NB VA so that not only is a community being represented, but it's also by someone from that community. I can't wait till they are fully released, I can am def going to be adding them to my dps hero pool and absolutely see myself being an annoying little menace with them 😈

Venture has cool gameplay and handles like a real OW hero, but I was under the impression that Blizzard is trying to monetize through skins. Venture gives Zarya vibes, not Mercy/Tracer.
As tracer she annoys the piss out of me. I cant play agressive in the backlines because I cant escape a venture unless I have multiple blinks , and in a duel with the health and shields plus the massive burst damage sometimes I get caught bad. Still can win duels on her but it feels like an unearned kill on me a lot.

I tried playing her some in Mystery heroes and she felt weak when I did not know how to play her. She has nothing for right mouse button and trying to decide if i want melee or the E ability there. I know once I set it I will be unable to change it again. I did the same for Sombra when she was released, switched up teleport and hack buttons and I got to use to it to switch it back now.
I'd just remap some the buttons yea. I almost always do that for any hero.

Pronouns and gender are different things. There are women who go by they/them pronouns. There are non-binary people who go by she/her pronouns or he/him pronouns.
It is not set in stone AND they're different things.

I think they're a pretty fun hero and doesn't seem too OP, sadly not for me to play. But a good addition to the Roster. Hopefully they'll see some play in OWCS. Good Job with the Pronoun Disclaimer at the end, fully agree with what you said there. Caught the beginning of your stream yesterday, and you seemed to not go quite that direction, good to see you either came around or just didn't state your stance on the stream very well.
An interesting new character. My only question is how is it gated? Certainly not every player will be able to play the new hero for free to experience the fun, this is overwatch 2. So what's the gate? Is it an egregious time sink, or just my credit card?
Heroes are no longer going to be gated. Starting season 10, every new hero will be available for everyone for free.
Instead of money, you'll have to pay in pronouns.

I think they're pretty fun
I personally love playing them, hate playing against them. They have invincibility, shield health and decent mobility. It has been a nightmare playing against them as tank since most of the abilities are unblockable by most defensive abilities as they are melee based.
Played one match against one with a LW support, was actually impossible to kill them since he was able to either precharge a fat heal or grip Venture to safety.
Just the fact drill dash has a shorter CD in the ground is a little busted, simply cause its fast shields.

Thank you for your respectful section at the end. Although I am not trans myself I know that this character's inclusion into the OW universe means a lot to a lot of people. Their voice actor is a GEM of a person as well, and seeing them as a HUGE fan of the game and seeing them play it consistently has made my heart happy. Thank you for a great video as usual, I'll be excited to see how the game and community continues to evolve.

Burrow isn't even good predictively. There have been times where I've activated it BEFORE the enemy started their ability, and they not only got theirs off before I was immune, but they were able to kill me from full health before I submerged. Well yes it's a animation. And that's 100% intended all heroes have a time where they are most vulnerable and with venture it's when she activates burrow. And that is a good thing balance wise.

Amazing point made regarding how diversity really was such a big part of the game in general on its launch, making Tracer gay and having a host of women in the cast, with them not being all just weak one-dimensional heroes, if anything, probably over-tuned them lol Ana & Kiri cough cough*
If blizzard cared about marginalised groups, they would make a character called game dev and then pledged to pay their devs better wages. I reckon game dev is the only marginalised group overwatch should care about.
the labor practices are off-the-charts bad but i'd like to imagine they could recognize marginalized gender identities and pay their workers at the same time
i think it's more that the devs themselves, (or character designer specifically) pushed/wanted a non-binary character, and since that gives blizzard brownie points there's no real downside for the higher ups in adding a non binary character.
