    Time Stamps
1:42 Clients are the difference between design and art
2:52 Clients can be the best part of the design process
4:40 My clients are the same as yours
6:10 The right client can change anything
9:10 The best clients love design, or don’t give a damn about it
9:42 The worst clients are somewhere in between
“Who care about design just enough to worry about it”
10:37 Never talk about “educating a client”
12:24 What makes a great client?
13:03 Brains, passion, trust, and courage
16:52 Warning: your great client may not be my great client
18:06 Great clients lead to more great clients
18:19 Bad clients lead to more bad clients
20:22 Meanwhile, we take great clients for granted
20:35 The trick is to reverse this
22:25 What do I owe a great client?
23:00 Loyalty, honesty, dedication, and tenacity
25:32 Once you find a great client, never let them go
27:15 If you can find five great clients, you’re set for life
28:21 I’m very lucky I can name ten
28:46 These people are why you’ve heard of me
35:19 (Once I started going, I found I could name more)
    36:04 Q&A

    Things this teaches you:
    1. About being a responsible designer. It's about more than just the actual design, it's about the process and who you are and what you do and who your clients are as a designer. Which means...
    2. It's not about making money. I'm not saying being a good designer altruistic in nature all of the time, but being a good designer, a responsible designer, should have nothing to do with the money.
    3. That's easy to say when your clients are Verizon or Mastercard or DC or MIT, etc. You don't have to worry about money with clients like that (which, understandably, is due to the reputation set forth by Pentagram. But it's unfair to say there aren't equally good designers out in the world who also make that kind of money.)

It's funny to see a designer try not to shout that clients are stupid for 45 minutes.
