    Lovely video, your pace of speaking and showing your stitching is relaxing, which makes for good company while stitching myself. Two suggestions about your questions. Needles: the reason your needles lose their nickel plating is that your hands are moist, if you put the needle in your mouth it will do the same thing. My career was in teaching hand stitching. When needles are manufactured they begin with base metal, add a coating of nickel to shine them up. Gold needles have another coating over the nickel plating which makes the finish wear longer. The gold will wear off first, then the nickel plating. If you work at keeping your fingertips dry (chalk), your needles will last longer. About full coverage: it is not for the faint-hearted. In the best of circumstances, it is tedious. Of all of the floss tubes I have watched who do full coverage, “stitchblisscorner” is the very best! Besides being an interesting person, she almost exclusively stitches full coverage. I have adapted her approach of gridding the fabric which has made it easier for me. She has filmed videos for many years. I have thoroughly enjoyed every one. They are great even if you don’t do full coverage! I am very sorry for your recent loss of your mother. It is a terrible loss at any age. Take your time coming back…we will be here.😊

      Jeanna, I loved reading your comment. It was fascinating to hear about your history and your chalk recommendation was very much appreciated. It made me think about bowlers that use some type of substance (maybe it’s chalk in those little packets they grab??) to keep their hands dry. I’m definitely going to check out StitchBlissCorner. I’m still pondering the Portrait of Father Xmas HAED. I hope you had a great stitchy week!

    Loved the story about Duttons for Buttons and I also have only lived in the US but I'm drawn to all things UK and love buttons so I will definitely be checking out their page to see all the lovely photos and history. I only use Bohin needles and I think they are pretty inexpensive for a well made needle. I do leave my needles with each project ( although I am old school and do not use the needle minders), however I have never noticed the finish coming off of the needles. My 28 counts usually get changed because they are thinner and I end up either bending or breaking them but the 26 seem to last forever. I had just kitted up Barbara Ana's BE HIPPIE when I came across Yellow Submarine and had to have it so it's all kitted and ready to stitch and I think they will look great together. Happy 1st month on flosstube.

    Your Definition of a Cross Stitcher piece is wonderful! Great charting!!! (I like your mugs and totes...what great colors and designs!) Regarding your Santa HAED...put it in 'time out' since there are too many wonderful things to stitch to be bogged down with those that are a labor to do! Can any of the stitched portions from either of your HAEDs be used as pincushions etc? For the Santa one, just frame the print (or buy a better quality print) and call it done! You can use the floss for other projects, just add it to your inventory. You learned a lot about what you like/don't like, so that is a win in itself and you stopped early enough to invest your time in those things that really motivate you. Happy 1 month anniversary for you and for us!!!

    • @everydaystitcher
      @everydaystitcher  ปีที่แล้ว

    For the full coverage, I've seen they use "gridded" fabric that seems to help keep their place. Also several use apps to load their patterns into and help keep track of stitches. I love the Santa! I'm slowly working on different Santa's for our Christmas tree. 🎄

    I haven't read all of the comments, so I may be repeating -- have you thought about doing Father Xmas without the background? Find a piece of hand dyed fabric and get on to the good stuff! This would make it possible for you to do him some larger if you like. And I agree, that is a handsome Santa and he deserves a place on your wall. I think that HAED will do a "No Background" chart for you.

    Hi, Sharon- Merry Christmas (in August, since it’s August 1st today). I’m really enjoying your floss tubes & and especially ❤your wips. The Santa you finished for Christmas in July is darling & I would love to stitch him sometime, although probably not this year- too many projects going.
    I recently returned to cross stitching after an absence of many years. I really liking your taste in projects. Mine is mostly similar. I have a vast stash of patterns saved from stitching years ago, much of which I still want to stitch. But I’ve discovered that my taste has changed over the years, and many patterns that I had wanted to do, but never got around to, no longer interest me.While other projects that never particularly spoke to me all those years ago, now seem to be calling to me. And there are so many new (to me, at least) designers whose patterns call to me,too. Having just turned 68, I know I won’t be able to stitch everything I want to - I’d have to live to be a couple hundred years to do that.
    Anyway, I’m glad I found your floss tube. By the way, the reason I first watched you, other than you being of a similar age as me, is that you only had 3 floss tubes, so it wasn’t intimidating. Happy 1 month anniversary! Keep the friendly, informative episodes coming!
    From, Kathi K in Frisco, Tx (Dallas area)

    • @everydaystitcher
      @everydaystitcher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kathi, I loved, loved, loved reading your comment! As you probably already know if you’ve watched all my FlossTubes so far we are indeed very similar in a lot of ways. My taste have also changed in the relatively short time that I’ve been back doing cross-stitch. I was never one to fully kit something up when I got the chart and I’m so glad I didn’t do that when I started buying charts last spring. For one thing, it’s expensive to do that and if I decide at some later date that I don’t want to stitch it then it’s just a lot of stitching supplies sitting around and I’m not a fan of that (and I really couldn’t afford to do that any way)! I’m glad you found my channel and that you’re enjoying it. I only started doing it to connect with other stitchers like yourself 😀 I hope you have a great stitchy week!

    I would stitch Santa on 16ct Aida, he’s full coverage but the stitches would be small and if he has beads they should work! ❤ love him so much! I still have Pat Carson needles and all of my wips have needles and scissors… all 30 or so! Loved the Cottage Garden Samplings Christmas chart! Admire your progress on Mary 395. For your submariner son, the Navy sub force has a dolphin insignia that I think you could easily chart. I’m sure your son would really love seeing it stitched! My stepfather was in the Navy submarines force for about 20 years and we actually went to Thanksgiving on the USS Los Angeles one year. It was definitely cramped quarters getting to the mess to eat dinner LOL

    • @everydaystitcher
      @everydaystitcher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Angela, I love, love, love your suggestion about charting the dolphins! I loved the dolphins pin so much that he got me one when he first joined and I keep it in my jewelry box! And wow, I admire you for getting on the sub and being able to have Thanksgiving there. My youngest son went onboard once with my eldest son and I chose not to. My son has been in almost 18 years so I know how cramped it can be and how small the racks are….etc. i don’t even watch any videos or movies about subs yet. It’s easier for me not having a mental picture of what his life is like underway. Once he retires from the military, I will certainly watch those things and have him share his commentary about it!! But again, great idea! I will definitely do that!!

Your stitching is beautiful as usual and I love your designs---you are so creative and talented:) Thanks to your encouragement, I started Mary 395 this morning as part of Nerissa's Stitching Lifestyle's sampler SAL (if you don't already watch her, run, don't walk) I've never stitched a monochromatic piece and am loving it so far. Thanks for helping me to finally make the jump to start such a large sampler! Can't help on the full coverage piece as I've never done one, but I would recommend Piecemakers needles. Your stitchings are so beautiful and so diverse ❤ I used to be like you, stitch only with one needle. I now keep a needle with each project as I choose the needle size to fit the fabric. It seems to make my stitching go smoother. I think it's your needles way of saying it's done. Choose a new one. They stitch smoother when newer.
    I had lots of plans for Christmas in July. They didn't happen. I've definitely learnt I'm a stitch what you want when you want person.

    Hello Sharon !
    I love to stitch all about Christmas and my first HAED was a Christmas design: Abundance of Joy by Donna Gelsinger 25 ct 2x1. It was a nightmare at the beginning, but I had all the flosses and really wanted to make it. Why others and not me! I finally stitched it in diagonals one stitch after the other and finished it and it's absolutely beautiful. But now my Haeds are on 25 or 28 ct 1x1 and I stitch cross country, or 10 x 10 squares or royal rows or typewriter method. I finished 2 others since. I really enjoy that!
    I live 40 km from the DMC factory (Mulhouse France) that produces the dmc floss but I order almost everything on websites: really sad.

And the additional info you shared was so interesting. I’ve written down those names for needles. I’m almost finished with the ones I bought last year so I will definitely be trying all of them out to see which one I end up liking the best. I hope you are having a great stitchy week! 😀

    Love the progress on your wips. I use John James gold plated size 26 needles. And I use Bohin needles, also. I enjoy sewing with both of these brands. I live so far away from a cross stitch shop, but I found 2 shops I going to visit soon. I need some cloth, threads and beads. I know I will see some patterns I will have to have, too.

    I think some HAED charts lend themselves to different counts and weaves. I have a couple on 25 ct gridded 1x1 full X that are perfect. I have others that I tried on 25 but restarted on 20 ct gridded aida and it made all the difference. Others I am stitching on 18 ct. I have 6-8 HAEDs going right now, different sizes, fabrics, and number of thread colors. Personally, I like full X and not tent/half stitch. I use 2 strands on 18 ct and 1 strand on 20 ct and higher. They are so much fun. I am a process stitcher and may never finish any of them, but I sure do love stitching on them and I stitch a bit of everything!
    Your other question-I think I lose my needles long before they lose their finish 😂.

      Hi there, your comment was incredibly helpful! I really would like to attempt the Portrait of Father Xmas again and I think what you suggest is the solution! And your comment about needles made me laugh! 😀 I hope you’re having a great stitchy week!

    Everything is beautiful. Two suggestions on the HAED Santa. I'm doing Reader's Paradise on 25ct gridded fabric, (it's going to be huge. 723w x 518h.) I am doing mine 2 over one tent stitch, and it goes alot faster.
    You could also get a lovely background fabric and not stitch the background behind Santa's face. Let me know what you decide.

      Sara, I’m in awe of you stitching that piece. I was unfamiliar with it and took a look and it’s wonderful! I’m a big book lover so it was right up my alley! I did try a swatch of tent stitching on 25 count because I’ve seen others use that but I’m embarrassed to admit that I had trouble doing that! ☺️ Your suggestion about only doing his face is an interesting one and may be the solution…I’ll have to ponder on that! Have a great stitchy week!!

    You get what you pay for. Peacemaker needles are great. Make sure you use the right size needle for the fabric count you are stitching on. It's not always a good thing to skimp on your supplies when cross stitching. Am curious why you only use one thread over one thread on every count fabric you use? Totally unorthodox. Love your projects.

      Hi there Dodie! Thanks for the advice about the needles. When I first purchased the box of DMC needles, I had no idea of the other ones available like Piecemakers needles etc. when I started back cross-stitching last spring. Since then, I’ve heard of a couple of brands but really no opinions on any of them. I’m almost through using my supply of DMC ones so I thought it was the right time to ask for some advice. I know I misspoke in the 1st FlossTube and said that a project (or two…not sure?!?) was stitched 1 over 1. That was incorrect. I have never stitched anything 1 over 1 yet on any project. Most everything I stitch is 1 over 2. So sorry for my confusion! I think I was just excited - my notes were correct, I just misspoke…oops! I’m glad you’re liking my projects. Have a great stitchy week!!!😀

    Happy one month anniversary and welcome to FL. Before you give up on your santa HAED, have you tried 2 strands tent stitch? i was in the same place you are with a full coverage and when I switched, it went twice as fast and was so much more fun. You might even be able to get away with doing it on your current project if you angle the stitch to same way you do your top leg for the full cross. If that doesn't work for you, you could try the smallest aida you can find, they make a 20ct and I think there's a 22 ct hardanger fabric.

      Thank you so much for the recommendation! I actually did a test of tent stitch and had trouble with that. I was so disappointed that it just didn’t seem to work for me! I’m not giving up though. I am exploring Aida as a solution 😀. I hope you’re having a great stitchy week!

    Like you I was not happy using DMC needles, my find was Piecemaker needles, they are about $3 for a six needle pack. They are sturdy and keep their finish (some are a year old). Hope this info helps. Also I am doing a full coverage piece on 28 ct two over two and it makes me happy, the piece is small 199x249. I also do my own gridding with thread so if you like 36 ct why not try that? Or 18 or 20 ct aida? Do what makes you enjoy stitching!

    I’m working on my first Mirabilia ‘Venetian Opulence’ just had a couple of short stitching sessions but the floss colours are so jewel like and beautiful. I decided to do it on aida as I don’t really enjoy working on linen very much.

    I don't know if this would help or not for your needle issue but I have a red tomato pen cushion from my grandmother and it has a small mini tomato attached to it. The mini cushion is filled with crushed nut shells and used to "clean" the needles. Whenever they get rough, I stab and slide the needle completely through the mini tomato and they come out smooth.

    So I missed the question so I went back and re-watched your video so I could see what the questions were. And the more comments the better so I didn’t add to the last one. I would do it on a 20 count Ada I stitch on 25 count one over one like the pattern that you have up for grabs, I would do that 1 over 1 And 25 count but that’s not a full coverage huge piece so. Yeah 20 count adia would work. no, as far as needles go, I don’t think there’s one that doesn’t lose its coding. Eventually I’m a one needle girl and I move it from one project to another and I just buy the needles that tomorrow’s heirlooms sells for 275 for six of them I have no idea who makes them but I’ll use them forever. So that’s all I got sorry for the book I’ve given you here

      Hey Diana, I love your comments so keep them coming!!! 😀 The Aida recommendation may be what happens. I did explore that a little bit further this morning…no decision yet though. And you may very well be right about the needles. If they didn’t lose their coating then I would probably buy very few in my lifetime and where is the profit in that for the companies that make them!?! Have a great stitchy week!!
