The ads from 3:26 onwards come from Channel 4's showing of "Queen: Real Magic" on Saturday 25th October 1986.

That first JVC ad is really creepy. And I haven't seen so many candles since Terminus on Walking Dead.
Elton John must have had big debts.
    Cute John Inman/Mr. Humphries ad.
The Philips ad is so weird you forget what's being sold.
8:37 - dropping like it's hot? Very ahead of their time...

It also would have been out of London as the rubella advert wasn't shown In London. London kids got their jabs at school. I know cos I'm the girl in the ad. :-)

Diana was the patron of the charity that organised the advert, which is why she featured so heavily.

Channel 4 or ITV regions as they were the only two adverts networks back then, there was no cable or satellite tv in the UK, remarkable!

although limited, there WAS cable and satellite in the UK back then:

0:41 I was terrified when this advert came on, I used to get so embarrassed, watching it with my parents. It’s probably one of the first adverts that was so explicit…most British adverts were more prudish

Why is the JVC advert so sinister? It’s more like a public information film! 😨
In fact their CD one is a bit sinister too, WTF was going on at jvc in 1986?

I'm looking for a rather strange TV ad from around 1986 that may well have been a Public Information Film (I've found a few people who remember it and most think it was a PIF)- if anyone can shed any light I'd be very grateful:
The ad featured a bird's-eye view of a busy outdoor swimming pool, and to the left of the screen there was a mother sat on a chair with a little boy in front of her, and she was unfastening his shirt buttons and talking to him as she did so. (I remember her being slightly overweight with short black hair and wearing a black jumper and trousers. The boy was a typical-looking small kid wearing a short-sleeved shirt and shorts.) Anyway, she was talking while unfastening the boy's shirt, seemed completely normal at this point. (The boy didn't say anything- it was just a long monologue by the mother and the boy just looked straight ahead at her the whole time.) But after a while the mother suddenly changed her voice mid-speech to a funny voice, and continued talking while unfastening the boy's buttons, but in a funny voice (I believe from what one person has told me that she buttoned the shirt back up). The boy didn't react to this at all. Then after another few minutes the mother was just lifted out of her chair by nothing, hung in mid-air for a few seconds still in a sitting position (while screaming out still in a funny voice) then fell into the pool with an enormous splash. Most bizarrely of all, absolutely NO-ONE reacted to this- the swimmers at the pool (there were loads of them) didn't acknowledge a thing, and even the boy didn't react- just stood staring straight ahead at the chair as if the mother was still there.
Anyone have any recollection of this???

What could that be an ad for! Sounds terrifying

@@A-small-amount-of-peas Thanks for responding, the search is still on for this one! As well as the PIF theory we've had some people suggest it might have been a wacky advert for confectionery or a fizzy drink, because there do seem to have been quite a few wacky commercials at the time where someone took a bite/sip of the product being advertized and it made something zany happen to them like speeding up their voice and spiriting them away.
Without a solid recollection we can only speculate though, a few people have said they vaguely recall this but can't remember what it was about! We have a blog post about it on the Unidentified Weird TV blog, feel free to share and ask people in case we manage to find anyone who can help!

@@mosquitor81 Funnily enough I'm trying to find one that for some reason terrified me as an infant and it was around this period where it might have been an ad for a department store or carpet store where people dressed in gorilla suits would storm in and take away the customers for some reason whilst grunting and whooping.
Maybe Allied Carpets? . Will have another look for it now but if you know of it let me know 👍

    Things that stick out:
    Its SO WHITE 😂
NatWest employing the one actor of any colour. NatWest also predicting the future by using the slogan 'NatWest online' a decade before it would mean what it came to mean.
The JVC voice artist might be the same one who did that hellish AIDS 'dont die of ignorance' ad.
    Elton John.. bro.
An advert FOR electricity? Electricity itself had to be advertised? Who was against using it?
