That ridge top trail segment of Fimmvörðuháls Trail looks intimidating! Do the waterfalls justify it? Are there many falls on Laugavegur?

I guess it depends on your level of comfort, as everyone is different. There are 2 short sections that have significant exposure, for those who don't like drops. Neither of those sections is very long, and the footing felt very secure in both parts. I'd say absolutely 100% worth it. That was probably my favourite section of the entire 4 days. The falls on the Fimmvörðuháls are astounding, and there were plenty more that didn't make it into this video. You can also reach all of these falls from the other end of the trail, without having to negotiate the ridge top, or high pass.
As for the Laugavegur, there are some falls on that trail, but nothing on the scale of the Fimmvörðuháls. However, the Laugavegur is a fantastic trail too.

wow!! im doing the laugavegur trail next summer but now you inspire me to do the fimmvorduhals trail also . but i have a question how did you travel from skogafoss to the inhabited world {reykjavik or something}??? greetz from a dutch girl with future blisters ;-)

There is a bus to Reykjavik (number 51) that departs Skogar at 16:25 on weekdays, or 15:07 on weekends. There is only 1 bus per day, so plan to finish hiking earlier, or stay a night in Skogar.
I'd definitely recommend adding the Fimmvörðuháls too. It's spectacular!
      Enjoy your trip
