    Thanks, displayed exactly what I was looking for within the first 3:15 and no wasted time. GREAT VIDEO!

    Thank you for this very informative video. I especially liked seeing the shot groups and the communication of obviously complicated material made skillfully plain. This is one of the better videos on TH-cam!

    Concise and to the point, like it. Seeing the different groups was helpful.

    That was a perfect video. Everyone else just really over complicates this topic. This was exactly what I was looking for. I have a bcm 16" with a 1:7 twist that I have been shooting 55 gr. Out of. It's great at 50 yards right at a 1 inch group. But at 100 yards it opens up to a 5 inch group. So im ordering some 77 gr. To see if that helps. Thank you for this episode of Twist rate for dummies. Lol.

      in this video it 16inch, but with shorter barrel for 7.5inch pistol, did 1:7 twist grouping be any worse with 55gr ? . im still cant decide what barrel twist i need for that build.. this will be my first short ar for truck guns.

      Your comment was from 2 years ago, but I'd like to know what happened when you went to 77gr. I have the same problem with a Geissele Super Duty 16" 556 w/ 55gr. 1" groups at 50yds, but it opens up to 3"+ @ 100yds. Waiting on Hornady 73gr ELD Match to test. Agreed, this is a helpful video.

      @wmw2222 I actually switched barrels. I put a criterion .223 wylde chrome lined barrel with a 1-8 twist on my rifle. It shoots all grains very well. And i even pinned the gas block, it still gives me 1" groups at 100 yards with 55 gr and 77 gr.

      @@kenneyminter2023 I'm glad you found a solution. What results did you get with your BCM16" 1:7 with 77g? Did it group well? Did you go to the Criterion barrel because you couldn't get the BCM to group, or because you wanted the versatility of shooting 55g accurately? I'm going to try 73g on my Geissele. I'm concerned that it may just be a problem with the particular barrel. It wouldn't be ideal to put something on the gun other than the Geissele barrel considering how well they mate up and the price of the gun. I'll just have to wait for the ammo to arrive so I can test it.

      @wmw2222 Excatly. I thought the grouping was horrible from such an expensive upper. I kept the bcm Barrel. Just put it with the spare parts. But yeah, criterion seemed to be the way to go, and they did not disappoint.

    So to summarize:
    Slow Twist, Light Bullet
    Fast Twist, Heavy Bullet
    -or-
    The heavier the bullet the faster the twist.

    Shit man before building my ar I read that a 1/8 stabilizes everything good and I’m broke af n jus spent alot on m193 for emergency ammo

    I'm looking to build a pistol and shoot mostly 55 grain bullets (cheap stuff). That would mean that a 1:9 might be best. But since I'll be running a 10.5" barrel, there will be less distance over which the bullet will be stabilized, so might a faster twist rate be better due to the shorter barrel? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

      It sure would depend on what your intended function is. Is this your “truck gun”? Are you trying to make a long-range shooter out of it? You’ll surely get added velocity out of a tighter twist but unless
      you’re trying to measure groups at distance, I’d snatch up whatever you can find right now. The different bullet weights will al
      function just fine, some will just be better slightly. It’s easy to get lost in it all but unless you have very specific intentions with your build, anything will be just fine.

      Thanks! Mostly looking for more of a "truck gun" or home defense weapon. Can't imagine ever needing to shoot more than 100 yards for defense reasons, but may play around with long distance at the range.

    Is it safe to run 55 grain in a 1:7 twist rate for target practice ammo?

    • @defenderammunitioncompany2636
      @defenderammunitioncompany2636  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely it’s safe. The Army does it all the time. The heavier bullet is just preferred by the tighter twist- makes your groups beautiful. But either will make for a great range day!

    Scope mount looks like like it’s on backwards, obviously doesn’t matter for the test but that’s the first thing I noticed

      We shot with a 1:7 as well as a 1:9. The decision to use the 1:9 due to the popularity of the platform so the viewers may relate more. Thanks for watching!

      We decided to shoot with a 1:7 and a 1:9, as the 1:9 is a more common platform. Sorry for the miscommunication in the video, thanks for watching!

    for 7.5inch ar pistol build, will 1:7 twist help stabilize the 55gr bullet or i do still need to use 1:8 or 1:9 twist if will be use a lighter bullet primarily.. this will be my first pistol, i dont experienced any ar pistol before.. still considering what barrel twist i need to order.

    Do that same test from a 20" barrel I have a 1 and 9 twist 20" barrel i stabilized 69 with no problem The weight of the bullet has nothing to do with it it's the length

      @defenderammunitioncompany2636  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I am understanding your question correctly, relating to the video, he is explaining the heavier bullets (projectiles) fired through the 1:7 and 1:9, and the effect they have on the grouping.

    Okay, this is what I’ve learned from these videos.
    1:9- 55-65gr
    1:8- 65-69gr
    1:7- 69-up
    Am I correct, if not please do correct me! I do not want to lead others astray

      Well, don’t look at it as a “go or no-go” situation. Just because a bullet isn’t optimal for a particular twist doesn’t mean it won’t function well enough- especially for novice shooters. That’s probably a safe range though I wouldn’t totally rule out a 55g on a 1:8 for example.
