Thank you for this video and for allowing us to come on the trip with you. I really enjoyed that. Your enthusiasm for flying and enjoying the window view reminds me of my younger days when taking a flight was such an event. Much of the excitement for me still remains, even though I fly more frequently now. Love the klm 747-400. Flown it a few times. Thanks again for the wonderful video and commentary. 🙂
Great video. I've done this same KLM flight twice over the years; once on a 777 and once on a 747. Both are two of the greatest planes ever made, but the 747's history truly makes it the Queen of the Skies forever.
That's true. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, 747s were the main long distance overseas aircrafts, them and the DC-10s. Both aircrafts stopped being made by many airlines and have been taken over by 777s and A330s, which are just as powerful and fuel efficient (the newer aircrafts have only 2 engines instead of 4, but each engine is also twice as powerful making the 777s just as powerful as the 747s overall). But, the 747s were still great aircrafts and were like no others with their trademark second story hump. Most American airlines discontinued them, but KLM and Lufthansa are 2 airlines which continues to build new ones.
I love the SFO airport...it's always busy and like you said it's a beautiful day to fly. I live in the area and we do have lots of days with that beautiful blue sky but also lots with yukky fog. That livery on the KLM plane is great looking, what a beautiful blue color. Hope you had a wonderful flight to Amsterdam and enjoyed flying the Queen of the Sky!

VIDEO WAS AWESOME , THE CAPTURE OF SFCO JUST OUT OF THE WORLD BOING 747 400 IS MY FAVORITE AIRCRAFT.
At 12:30 you get a view of Downtown Oakland and Lake Merritt. At 13:40-13:50 you pass just to the east of Berkeley and UC Berkeley is just in front of the engine closest to the window. The gold hills are regional parks and that large lake is San Pablo Reservoir. Great views of the Bay Area and yes that is Mount Shasta :)

Yes! I flew KLM 747 years ago. I flew out AMS to LAX. The registration number is PH-BFR. I will miss 747 very much.

Good that you got to go on my favorite aircraft, the Queen of the Skies! The 747 is my favorite aircraft. I love her with all my heart. She is my own mother from the sky. She’ll always be my Queen. I always feel like bowing down to her. I feel devoted to the 747. Boeing 747, I love you!!!

My mom’s best friend from college went to Dublin, Ireland on KLM back in 2013 and she flew through Amsterdam, Netherlands.

That can't be right. KLM only started to serve Dublin in 2016.
Just think of all of the aeronautical and technological advances lessons it took, to get to this stage of aviation. 70 years ago, this flight would have been in a prop aircraft, with many fuel stops along the way. Incredible when you think about it.
I've been an aviation buff ever since I was four years old and flew on an SAS DC-7 from LA to Copenhagen. Piston engine props. Still have vivid memories of the flight. Would like to do it again except on a TWA Super Connie.

San francisco-amsterdam is about 10-11 hours
The aircraft on the roof of Schiphol is a Fokker 100, not a 70.

At 8:20 you say that you believe that B.A. is the only other airline flying a 747 out of SFO, but on 0:20 one can clearly see a Qantas 747.
Yeah haha I totally forgot when I wrote that. Not to mention there is also the -8i from Korean and Air China, and the freighter 747s we get occasionally

The breakfast looked OK, but the "dinner" was quite unimpressive. With decent IFE, hopefully the lack of power outlets wouldn't inconvenience too many people. I suppose one must make sacrifices to fly the Queen of the Skies.
