I had the pleasure of fulfilling my bucket list experience of flying on a 747 back in 2013 which was another KLM 747-406M, the Rio de Janeiro PH-BFR in the opposite direction. I have a video posted of the plane, which sadly was scrapped back in 2017. I found online by accident, key tag# 04644/12000 that was made out of a piece of the plane, back in 2019. I’m hopeful that I’ll get to fly on a 747-8 someday before they’re all gone.

When I was stationed in Germany I would take KLM from AMS to ORD. They at the time made you feel like first class even if you fly coach. That was in the 80's.
I worked doing air cargo for KLM at O'Hare. Awesome group of people. Professional Pilots and Flight Attendant.

A very enjoyable trip report. I like the location of the cabin you were in. With the galley on the other side of the wall, it made it feel more like a narrow body aircraft, the only drawback being no windows for people next to the divider. A great, smooth landing in Chicago too. Thanks for sharing. I think KL look a good airline.

KLM: an airline that has a decent amount of common sense. I’m glad KLM’s using the 787-9 at Minneapolis. That thing for its size is the most quiet aircraft at Minneapolis. When it took off, I was in my home, and usually a large plane would make a ton of noise, but I didn’t hear a thing.
Alex, what decibel level is a ton, a ton is 2,000 lbs in the US, so what level of weight would that be? Hey, just asking.
Alex Paumen I don’t care about noise. Nothing compares to a 747 and nothing will ever be better in my eyes than a 747. I always feel like bowing down to the 747 when ever I see her. She will always be my Queen

Ive never actually gotten to fly this beautiful plane. Thanks for the video. Sad that they wont be flying these anymore. We saw one of Deltas last international flight landing at Minneapolis, posted the video on our channel. Very cool to see, bet it was a cool experience to be on board.

A respectable-looking dinner and a couple of snacks, quite adequate for that flight!
Shes beautiful, and I really miss seeing them as often as I used to. I used to see the Weekly BA non stop flight from Heathrow to Phoenix Sky Harbor on final but shes sadly either not flying anymore or its being serviced by a different airplane.

Fun video! But I must admit I haven't landed at Ohare in decades, thank God. Landing there simultaneously with other aircraft while other planes were taking off was freaky. I guess I'm too used to small airports and landing strips in Hawai'i and Micronesia.
Great video and same route i flew in 2016. Unfortunately the plane i was on PH-BFR has now been scrapped so to those asking yes they are slowly phasing out the 747 unfortunately. Twin engine planes are just more efficient and with higher reliability are rated to travel further distances.

God I can't imagine the day when we can't sit in the queens of the sky anymore. That day is coming but I really hope there's as many airlines as possible put aviation ahead of profits and keep a few of these fine ladies in their fleets for as long as humanly possible before the day comes when they truly have to retire due to old age.

okay, great video. I did see a possible UFO or something on this video... start playing at 22:13 and start looking at the first big block of shipping containers nearest to the bottom of the screen next to the railroad tracks. There is something that goes across and just above the shipping containers then is seen on the road next to the containers at 22:15, cant be a car because it goes right over some other railroad tracks just left of the containers. If it was a bird it was have been a massive bird the size of a truck.
That's a lighting fixture. It's a railroad yard and the lights are up on 100 foot towers.

Alan Super I disagree I’ve been on 747 multiple times recently and have never had an uncomfortable experience. I don’t know what you’re thinking. Nothing compare to the 747. She will always be my Queen and I love her with all my heart. Every time I see the 747, I feel like bowing down to her

You can still take 747-400s from the UK to New York, which is 7 hours there and 6 hours back. There are other examples of short flights with wide body planes, it depends on demand as well as flight time

nice video, KLM knows very well that it is not a good idea to fly over the Atlantic with a plane that has only two engines.
