I am 6 and 9 cause I sometimes railfan in the harsh snow or rain. I am sometimes 4 as well cause of certain things including not getting my monthly dose of railfanning
I'm the kind of person who slows down a little bit when I see a rail crossing in the distance in the hopes that the gates will go down and I'll have a reason to stop and watch from a front row seat.
I've been a 2 all my life. I would beg my parents to choose the train over the car or bus for the same destination. I still like to get to the station well before my departure and watch anything passing through, whether freight or passenger. Recently I was telling my dad that I'm still a train enthusiast after all these decades, and was happy to learn that he's very much interested in trains too. And some of his favorite travel memories include the beautiful train routes across Western and Central Europe. The rest of my family respects my interest, but they don't really 'get' it. I'd be a '9' if only I could meet a friend who's patient enough to join in the wait. It's more fun to share in the excitement.
I’m an adult now and have been for a while but there’s something about giving the engineer a big arm pump and getting the air horn that still makes me smile
Let me describe myself... 1: The angle I set up almost every time I railfan. 5: I like to check any wayside signals nearby for any indication for oncoming trains. 6: I always like to prefect the angle I’m shooting to make a great outcome. 7: I sometimes rush a lot to get crossing activations and trains in time, lol. 8: Sometimes, I like to choose locations where it makes for a cool and creative shot. 9: Most of the time just like to be dedicated on getting any train or crossing no matter if it is boring or interesting. 10: I may easily sprint to my camera once I see something coming so I can start recording at the right time. 11: Technically, I’m something else but it’s related to 11, I sometimes call myself a “silent foamer” since I often get pretty excited for a cool unit or something, though I of course do not speak out anything about it no matter what, lol. Great video, as always!
@@TheCentralTexasRailfan hah! Yeah some of us are. Thing is the difference between a railfan and foamer is that foamers tend to be rude and cuss up a storm, stand on the tracks as a train is coming and are just all around retards. But railfans are like foamers minus everything except liking trains.
A unique railfan was Ralph Ketner, the founder of Foodtown (renamed Food Lion). The legend was he could stand there watching the train go by and add up the car numbers and give a total once the end of the train went by.
I am the rush and the signal checker. I always go into rush mode when i hear a trains horn in the distance. Also i get excited when i see a green signal!!
I'm all of them except 9 and 3, and hope to become 9 when I'm older! (Well that sounded weird!) Also, I think every railfan is basically a foamer, but silent! Update: I've learned some things about the railfan community, and let me just say, that no matter what type of railfan you are, you're still loved! Okay? As everyone in the railfan community is now fighting over things like this, and someone needs to put a sop to it! But I can't do it alone, so who's with me?!
I used to spend a lot of time watching the La Plata Missouri stream on TH-cam. Eventually I realized that most of the people were watching trains, while I was watching a railroad. While they were counting the number of cars, judging horns and hoping for a "meet", I was looking at the mixture of the cars on the manifest trains and whose names were on the side of the containers on the intermodal trains. As the virus problem was happening, I would make observations about how this was going to change the mix of railroad traffic and the type of imports that were going to come in through Los Angeles and Long Beach. A typical response was that it was against the rules to talk about politics 😆. Railroads and politics and the labor disputes are inseparable. Many of the railroads that exist today are a direct result of the fact that Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer who was working for the Illinois Central Railroad as a lobbyist.
I am definitely the crossing fan, ATCS and signal checker, the perfect angle, the in a rush, the creative shot, and the sprinter, but also you gotta add the crazy chaser where you chase trains 100+ miles!
A possible addition could be the horn identifier and judger who likes to critique horns and point out defective equipment or horns that are inconsistent with the locomotive
I'm literally almost entirely 2, considering the fact that I pretty much only film Commuter Trains. I also have a pretty good amount of 6 and 9 in me as well. I occasionally take risks to get good shots. Let's face it. We all have at least a tiny bit of 11 in us. Unfortunately, I seem to have a bit more of it than the average person, even if I'm feeling calm. I try to only let it out when the train I'm filming is parked and not moving, though. But it's tough.
You forgot chasing trains in a car with your foamer friends, camera lenses hanging out the window and succeeding not getting a speeding ticket in order to "get the shot".
i literally stood outside in the rain in between two mainline tracks with binoculars to see if there was a train coming. talk about dedication (we found no trains sadly but we're going again today)
I'm definitely a #3 because how else am I supposed to figure out if there's anything out there lol. Sometimes a #5 when I'm getting anxious, and DEFINITELY a #6 lol.
And then there’s the Bashers. Oh the bashers. Being on a train full of bashers behind a 37 or a 55 is a surreal experience. Flailing. Screaming. MY LORDZZZZ and HELLLFIRE aplenty.
I've been the "on-the-bike" before. Basically same thing as "in-a-car" lol. I guess my intrigue over a couple of paint schemes and ofc big boy kinda lean me toward the foamer lol. Definitely feel like I've seen all these types in others videos before. Most recent one was definitely the "in a hurry" XD
#1, Why wouldnt you?, #2 hell no, #3 nope, #4 sometimes, #5 HELL YES, #6 YOU KNOW IT, #7 all the time, #8 sometimes also, #9 idc about the conditions, a shot is a shot, #10 every day when i hear a really faint horn, #11 not suprising, i live next to the Austin Western Railroad and i see different types of engines all the time Edit: spelling error
As a railroader, and i have been railfanned a few times and one of the trains i had is on TH-cam but i have seen 9 a whole lot!! Especially here in Chicago with the weather we get here.
My favorites when i worked for the railroad were the ones who would dress in full PPE...hard hat and all and stand there with their 6 cameras filming the trains.
I’m the signal watcher, the in a rush, (when I’m going out to Railfan) the dedicated, and the sprinter well I think the sprinter ties into being in a rush kinda.
I wonder where can I find those things where the railroad talk to each other because I want to know where a train is at because I would want to Railfan
I don’t really need to worry about camera angles cause I don’t have a tripod, I use a phone and I hold it when I record. The only annoying thing is that my hands can be shaky on some days ruining my video.
Definitely recommend a tripod. You can get cheapy ones from Walmart if ya rlly look for em. They dont last ya long tho. I have pretty much used a tripod for all my railfanning experience. It's super convenient for when u think ur ears might not survive a whistle or horn, you can run away from ur tripod without having to ruin ur shot
I am 1,3,5,6,7, and 10, trying to become 8, and 9 and sometimes an uncontrollable 11!
My type of railfan is the 11th one
I'm definitely an 11
I'm mostly a 1
I am 6 and 9 cause I sometimes railfan in the harsh snow or rain. I am sometimes 4 as well cause of certain things including not getting my monthly dose of railfanning
I can be a signal checker
100% perfect camera angle, station platformer, and signal checker.
Yep same
Same here
same
I can be a bit of an uncontrollable 11 sometimes especially in this video th-cam.com/video/EerH43s_SQs/w-d-xo.html

The new trains in Austin look very European

Great video, as always!
As someone whose been a Railfan for a decade, this is so accurate and relatable! I am definitely 1, 6, 7, 9 & 10. Lol 😂
I'd love to be #3 again but I'm too lazy to set up my SDR and mount a VHF antenna all over again. Plus I often need it for monitoring other stuff.
Lol ive been every one of these at some point 😂
I know which foamer fits 11 perfectly. Lol. 11 fits Brendan really well. 😅.
Fun fact I once had a conductor yell out the window at me “That’s dedication right there!” As I was filming the train in a violent thunderstorm
Cool! I recently heard a crew say "those foamers are dedicated" over the radio after I'd been waiting 2 hours for a train to build.

To be fair it's not really that hard to count cars as long as you don't get distracted lol
I can't railfan since i don't live in the US. if i did, i would def be the perfect camera angle guy tho
The foamer and the **C A M E R A F A L L I N G** was the best
I bet were all guilty of being foamers
10 is me when I get down to the tracks after school and I hear the locomotive already coming
2:26 also see they knocked yo camera down as well 😏
I am the rush and the signal checker. I always go into rush mode when i hear a trains horn in the distance. Also i get excited when i see a green signal!!
I Am #1 Because I Like The Sound Of The Crossing Bells
I'm all of them except 9 and 3, and hope to become 9 when I'm older! (Well that sounded weird!) Also, I think every railfan is basically a foamer, but silent!

Yea same! I guess foamers are the ones who voice their excitement and regular railfans stay tf quiet😂
factual
I can be a bit of an uncontrollable 11 at times
It’s when you can’t go see the rare thing that makes it more likely to foam about it
Is it bad that I'm a mixture of all of these except for the car part?
Nope, many people are.
I’m definitely the crossing fan
I’m 1 and 2. I don’t know how to get good shots lol
Definitely the "Camera angle perfectionist"
#12 the "chaser" = risky, but drives on roadway next to tracks filming a moving train! (safer when a driver is available to drive the car)
Just made a sequel to this video, which has the chaser.
I done that 2-3 times they go slow which makes it easier for me
I'm the forgotten 12th railfan type who prefers the infrastructure and it's history over the actual trains running.😎

Same
1,3,5,7,9 and 11

Admit it. We're all a little of each. Myself included.
Yup
I love how he foams so quietly
I'm personally 1, but I want to get to number 6, and, 8 in 2021. I can also relate to #7 and #9 if I happen to be in that situation.
1:53 what music is that??????
I'm literally almost entirely 2, considering the fact that I pretty much only film Commuter Trains.
I also have a pretty good amount of 6 and 9 in me as well. I occasionally take risks to get good shots.

I can be a bit of 11 but I'm mostly 1
As someone who lives in Chicago, near the city, omfg i hate elevated bridges and whenever i hear a crossing its so great
I’m sprinter, signal checker, crossing fan, and also occasionally a station platformer.
I’m all of these except for 3, 6, 8, and 10.
I am 2-11! 😂 We heard a train horn one time and we became Number 10 that day! Thank You for this Video Man! 👍👍👍
hahaha, this is great! I'm 5, 7, occasionally 9, and of course, 11! Foam forever!
Yessir #foamerlivesmatter
I'm mostly a crossing fan and the signal checker
You forgot chasing trains in a car with your foamer friends, camera lenses hanging out the window and succeeding not getting a speeding ticket in order to "get the shot".
Im 1, 2, 5, 6, sometimes 9, and 10!
I'm 1, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 11 lmao, nice video
1 yeah sometimes
2 Heck no
3 No
4 A lot
5 sometimes
6 Not yet
7 Yeah
8 Yep
9 No
10 Yes
11 Not anymore
Nice.
I'm all of them just at different times LMAO
Me too!
Foamer!!! 👀
@@pacificzonerailfan 🐥
I'm totally the crossing fan perfect angle lol
Same, lol.
Yup that’s me
0:11 I wanna be A crossing fan but I stay on station platforms and check signals for upcoming trains.
Out of anything on this list I’m probably the dedicated one lol
I've been a few of these! 🤣 9 sucks, but when they're rare, you gotta do it!
1:36 that bell when it’s sped up like this, sounds like a timer
I am 4, 6 and 7. I'm sometimes a signal checker
I think I confirmed that I am from the FOAMERS xD hahaha❤
Nice video bro! XD
"Omg mid DPU"
I kid you not... My first ever railfanning trip... I friggin said that😭 I'm also the signal checker as well lmfao
Lol I used to get excited over mid-DPUs too, but now that a quarter of all trains in my area have them I couldn't care less.
Lol I saw my first mid dpu last month in Barboursville West Virginia. I didn't have a stroke over it tho😂
I'm a dedicated creative shot signal checker.
I’m a nine, even if I know there most likely won’t be a train, or if it’s pouring rain, if it’s freezing out, if it’s 100° outside! I am dedicated!
0:14 best crossing bell ever
Yes
Sure is
Loved the video and I subscribed! Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks!
2:08 I caught some heritage units. a few DPU'S (but there are NS.)
You forgot 12 - the one who just occasionally films a train just because lol
I'm probably 2 and 9 because I go to railroad platforms and I go in the beating sun, freezing cold, snow, rain, and sometimes thunderstorms
Always been a signal checker, and station platformer. Still am one.
For me, defiantly 1 but also 2, 6, 8, sometimes 7, 9 rarely and 10 if I’m running late
i literally stood outside in the rain in between two mainline tracks with binoculars to see if there was a train coming. talk about dedication (we found no trains sadly but we're going again today)
I am 9 for sure. Been in pouring rain, snow, thunderstorms, and the blazing summer heat lol.
I'm definitely a #3 because how else am I supposed to figure out if there's anything out there lol. Sometimes a #5 when I'm getting anxious, and DEFINITELY a #6 lol.
Ok to be fair for the sprinter, sometimes you gotta beat a train to a crossing XD
I'm usually number 4. I stay in my truck and put my window down. Unless it's REALLY nice outside and the train is REALLY special.
And then there’s the Bashers. Oh the bashers. Being on a train full of bashers behind a 37 or a 55 is a surreal experience. Flailing. Screaming. MY LORDZZZZ and HELLLFIRE aplenty.
Brilliant... Wonderful people so I spend my days complimenting their acts of courage at train hunting.

I'm a in-a-rush, signal checker, and sometimes stay in car (for purposes like rain) 🤣

Very cool!
Bro istg I'm the in a rush, tryna become the camera angle perfectionist, and creative shot.
Number 7 and 10 are me lol thanks for the laughs!
I'm mostly 1 and 2 depending on the Train Station we're I'm at and sometimes 6.
My favorites when i worked for the railroad were the ones who would dress in full PPE...hard hat and all and stand there with their 6 cameras filming the trains.
Lol, a couple of my friends do the same thing 😂
🤣🤣🤣 this was great... I'm a 9 for sure. But I laughed my A... off at the sprinter.. I know a few 🤣🤣🤣 good job on this.. ... I'm sharing this.... 👍
after being a railfan for 3 years, im definitely 1,3,5,9, and 10 trying to be 6 and 8 lol
I’m definitely 5,6,7,9, and 10. I’m always in a rush for just about every train I see!
Wow this is sad but I know a lot of 7s, 10s, & 11s In my area
I am 100% a signal checker I always check the signals because I do not have a scanner yet
considering I frequently drive out of the house with my camera at the slight sound of a BNSF local, I'd say I'm a 9
I’m a 1 and 4, but if I get a train in time to get out of my car, I’ll try my best to do that.
got me on the crossing signals 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey nice video my friend!
I'm a 12. The guy that gets pissed when I have to stop cuz a freakin train is coming and the thing slows right down pulling 120 cars

Foamers are not bad they’re just excited
I’m basically 1, sometimes two, 4,5,sometimes 7,rarely,9 and sometimes a out of control 11.
I've been all of these at various points lol
I'm a 5,6, and 9. I like throwing ballast at the 11's.
Im definitely the station platform guy and sometimes the in a rush guy
That one person that leaves the camera on the tracks
1, 4, 5, 6, 7, and sometimes 10 (usually coupled with 7) for me.
I am 100% the dedicated railfanner and the perfect angle
lol I love it. I'm the sprinter and I don't have a tripod so yeah. just a camera
although I might also be 11 because one time I saw NS 8101 and went HERITAGE UNIT! WOOOOOOOOOO!
