I am thinking on replacing my engine air filter on my 2019 work truck Silverado with 4.3 L engine.
The truck has less than 10,000 miles, but the dashboard says 10% left on air filter.
Since the truck is still on its powertrain warranty - I have been taking it into the dealer for oil changes, but I figure I can change the air filter myself.
    My Question is:
Is it really necessary to disconnect the switch & remove the hose clamp?
I realize that the front/top part of the housing hooks in, but is there not enough flexibility in accordion hose?
I have had older vehicles that allowed me to change the filter without disconnecting the switch & hose clamp.
It seems like the more you take apart more junk might fall into the air box?
Have you tried replacing the air filter without disconnecting the switch & hose clamp?
One thing I noticed about Mechanics - they do not take anything more apart than is necessary, so I thought I would ask.
    Thanks!

@@Revitauto Unfortunately, I couldn't find an easy way. For the moment the truck has not given me problems except for once in a while hick ups. But, spring coming, I got a ton of work to do on the truck.

When would be a time to actually replace the filter and not just clean it??

    • @hochhaul

A message will pop up on the DIC screen if it detects the filter needs changing

C@@L! Now I have seen where small 'Tap Cons' Concrete screws, usually blue, can be used in a pinch. Good for MAF sensors also.) GM discontinued the original screws and prolly has a substitute by now.

Yes, took it to the dealer since it was still under warranty. It ended up being fuel vapors valve on the gas tank.
