You will be surprised, it's all about proper management of resources and providing people with basic needs at least at lower prices for the ordinary people.
Our leaders can do it too if only they choose to, they can reduce on their un necessary expenses and allocate that to the Countries' emergency needs such as health.
      Thank you for you opinion.

The amusing side of your remarks is that Westerners have never left Africa, there are more than 10k French troops (how many US, they want bases everywhere Kenya, Nigeria...) which cost more than 4 billion euros per year on this continent: For what?

The system is simple, a ruling class on orders which signs loans which are not used for infrastructure, countries artificially indebted, the IMF which demands an opening to competition in the 90s which eliminates emerging industries - there was more 400 coups d'état, France is behind half of them?
Is Congo rich? In permanent war, but this does not affect the world markets of computer equipment: how?
Africans are poor because they do not confront their real adversary, they allow themselves to be manipulated (they do not decipher what is been done to them - they should listen the US congress about its operations on the continent - they don't hide anything - why would they?) because as Prof Lumumba says, they are confused; but things are changing...
African leaders are under the orders of the West, not the youth; she asks the right questions and will arrive at the right conclusions.
why do you think they are ready (the West) to battle China on such a desesperate land?

The Europeans gave them a complete infrastructure (which they let deteriorate), set up an educational system, government structure, and efficient agriculture so they can eat enough and helped propel them out of the stone age. Hopeless corruption and theft, over and over again and complete unwillingness to develop any expertise. The economy is crumbling because of that, not because of colonialism. It is always easy to blame whitey for our own shortcomings.
$ 100 BIL goes to the African continent in aid and food is being shipped to Africa to relieve hunger from area's where they could easily grow their own food, if they knew how.
They robbed, murdered and drove out the white farmers and stole their land and business (that they have build over many generations). A year later they had to beg these farmers to return because of the famine that followed.

I genuinely hope you do not feel I am being spikey, because you are asking a really good research question here. Its worth a proper survey. Are there any Africans who think things were better under the French or Dutch, or the Ottomans, etc? Britain fell into a worse state when the Roman Empire left, and it took centuries to recover to the level of Roman civilisation. The local British tribes were mainly all happy to see the Romans leave, but taking the long view of history it would probably have been better for Britain if Roman law and trade had stayed. It all comes down to corruption. Many of the territories that chose independence while remaining sovereign territories of the UK, have done incredibly well, with the local inhabitants happy and wealthy. Countries which chose total independence have done far worse - and when I asked local people if they would prefer to be a UK territory again, many have said yes, as they can see what they have lost with independence.

Perhaps the question could have been "Should Western governments and corporations be asked to form genuine partnerships with African governments and businesses, so that all parties benefit from these partnerships?" The vast majority of Africans are good people who are willing to work but they lack the opportunity to do so.
I believe that this can and should happen sooner rather than later. But for Africans to be able to build better lives they have to confront and deal with tribalism and corruption. Likewise Western interests must be prepared to accept mutually beneficial partnerships that have transparent contracts to protect the interests of all parties.
I was once told by a senior Western government official "There is only one thing worse than African countries being exploited by the West and that is NOT being exploited by the West!" I refuse to believe this.

Honestly which colonial power? colonialism was a mixed bag of good and bad, as in they did allot of bad, but left a lasting legacy that still affects governance to this day. There are 4 true democracies in south east Asia , three of which are ex British colonies . Malaysia, Singapore and India . Singapore and Malaysia have the highest living standards as well. The most industrialised nation in Africa is the one that was colonised for the longest. The Seychelles and South Africa are the most democratic nations in sub Saharan Africa, and are both ex British colonies. Whether it’s in the Caribbean, Asia or Africa. The British legal system and the separation of state and powers has helped those countries immensely in remaining democratic, and less corrupt. Whilst not perfect it still leads to a higher level of wealth. Having a legal system that can over rule a corrupt government is paramount in any society. Colonialism isn’t the answer , the separation of state and powers is. Most ex British colonies are democratic , and have a higher standard of living than their peers. I spoke to some Indonesians who were highly critical of French colonialism, but had some praise for the British, as they said they included locals in education and the system of government. Not saying it was moral, just saying it did set up a better system of governance in some cases.
