    for those about to complain about the video quality. The video was made around 2000. at the time there was no damn HD like there is today. This clip was most likely recorded off of an old vhs tape from that time which is the reason why it's not the best quality. some vhs just gets worn out...

      @@00crashtest 2001 is not really relevant to the video, because you can easily label 2002, 2003, 2004 and beyond for many of the models shown here.
      A segment taped in 1999 with consumer products, shouldn't have anything from 2001 even mentioned. It's confusing and misleading, as when people randomly see 2001 as last, they think " old 2001 segment".
      I think all of these segments give an idea of when they were taped, based on response letters from manufacturers in every video, having dates listed.
      You couldn't even buy a 2001 model year anything in 1999. Minor changes also taking place from year to year or midlife, easily can negate relevance to some beyond 2000 vehicles.

    The 2000 and up seville had one of the strongest bodies of any vehicle on the road when it was designed. In testing GM actually failed to crush it with their standard car frame crusher and had to move to the truck test facility in order to complete the test.

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Maybe on US market. All cars in this video had very poor rigidity. All of them had A-pillars bent, intrusion into the cocpit, etc., which is unacceptable in luxury cars, especially in 2000. This looks like European cars from mid 90's. Renault Laguna in 2001 came out had far stronger body, it was the safest car in the world for a few years after that, and the first car in history to get 5 stars on EuroNCAP, which was considered impossible by the car makers, not even cars like Mercedes S class managed it. Look at it's crash test with an offset at 40 mph...the cabin stays totally intact, the windshield barely cracked, that didn't happen on any other car in 2001. In fact, that car can take a 55 mph crash into a pole or a tree that only covers about 20% of the frontal area and the A-pillar won't move a bit, doors will open normally and there is minimal intrusion into the footwell. A test in which most cars from around year 2000 would end up with the central console sitting in the rear seats.

    • @knurlgnar24
      @knurlgnar24 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      You're talking crash test safety, not frame strength. Very different and while they are correlated they should not be confused.

      ***** That was the OG Aurora platform that broke the frame crusher. The 2000+ Seville, Aurora, LeSabre, and Bonneville got reinforced more.

    • @SAMCAMJAIK1
      @SAMCAMJAIK1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +derbigpr500 There's no way it can take a 55mph crash like that. Thats around double the forces of a 40mph crash. Many companies already struggle with the small overlap test at 40mph. No way can it handle a 55mph small overlap crash. Unless you have a source/video? But even if it could handle a crash at that speed, there's a high chance the head will hit the steering wheel through the airbag, potentially (almost surely) killing the driver.

    • @SAMCAMJAIK1
      @SAMCAMJAIK1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +derbigpr500 I'm talking small overlap on the driver side at 55mph. Not a tree going through the center of the car at 55mph.

    Had a 2002 Buick LeSabre. It was a very good dependable car that gave no problems. I never had a crash in it but glad to know it was a safe car as well. The Buick was 12 years old and we had a new BMW and the Buick was more reliable than the BMW. It's a shame that GM didn't put the same amount of care into all their cars and trucks.

    I've just purchased a 2003 park avenue ultra a month ago after owning an e38 BMW. Athough the Buick has its pitfalls and shortcomings, its a fairly good car none the less. The Buick is defiantly nowhere near as fast or as powerful but at least I can still overtake on the highway thanks to its somewhat potent supercharger. It is a lot more comfortable and easy to steer while driving in town but I did have to sacrifice handling for comfort. As far and the interior build quality its a joke. Acres of fake plastic and the faux leather trimmed center console constantly remind me why I choose a BMW, however it still has most of the same features as my BMW so I guess I can forgive it overtime and I must say that the size of the trunk has proven to be very useful, i've managed to fit an entire restaurant kitchen stovetop in the trunk and still managed to hold all of the other bulk foods I needed. Going back to drivability, the traction control system is pathetic compared to the one on E38 BMWs. I'm an aggressive driver so the wheels are constantly screeching when I stomp on the gas, but then again the car is front wheel drive so it does fair better with the bi-polar weather were I live. (people in Nevada know what I'm talking about) As far as styling goes it has a nice aggressive look to it, being an Ultra model it has the chrome side exhaust holes, metallic black paint, and it also came with the optional chrome alloy rims. Its a pretty stylized car but you can't help but think like someone from GM took a bicycle pump to a cadillac seville and stopped pumping right before it popped. What I loved about my E38 BMW was despite being 17 years old, it still looks just as sexy as when it came out of the showroom, it has a timeless design that GM cars at the time were incapable of offering. However beauty is in the eye of the beholder so its a personal choose, and I will say that the Buick does turn a lot more heads in the the office parking than a Toyota Corolla. I've had people walk up to me at work complementing me on my Buick. Even though I would take a european car over an american car any day of the week, Buick is the only american carmaker i'd make an exception for. Buick has always managed to make a luxury car well suited for the american lifestyle.

    I owned and totaled a 1999 LHS and i can confirm this test doesnt represent real world crashes. I had an offest crash with another vehicle that slowly turned left in front of me suddenly. I was traveling at 55mph. After braking and swerving right, at point of impact i struck the right front of the other car at about 45mph. My car looked similar to the test car as far as exterior damage and i was able to open and close all my doors and trunk. As a matter of fact i was able to start the car and drive it across the street into a parking lot waiting for a tow truck. The other car was disabled it was a Dodge Charger. Its HEMI engine was laying in the road. The only injury i had was one i didn't know about until the next day. I had a very light burn/rash on my left arm from the airbag. My arm was in front of the airbag as it deployed since i was swerving. They used to make fun of us youngins back then for driving with our seats slid back and recliner leaned back. Well it saved my life because there was plenty of space inbetween me and that airbag since my head didn't come close to it. I was pleased with the way my LHS handled the crash, but the Charger didn't do well. The driver was taken to the ER by ambulance and she had side airbags and head curtain airbags! All i had was dual front airbags. I would buy another LHS to this day in a heartbeat if i ever found one as nice as mine. And i can confirm they got it wrong here, the Concorde was the large family sedan from Chrysler. The LHS was the large flagship luxury sedan from Chrysler. They cost $35,000 fully loaded and they competed with the Park Avenue, Seville, Aurora & Lincoln Continental. The LHS was a very good car back then and it saved my life that day. I had that car four years before that bitch turned in front of me talking on her cell phone. I was pissed. My LHS got replaced with a 2008 Lincoln Town Car. After that accident realizing how bad it could have been i bought the car with the longest hood on any modern automobile and i still have it. 300,000mi still looks and runs like new! You want a car with a set forward front axle closer to the front bumper not a set back front axle closer to the front doors. My Town Car has a set forward front axle with the engine sitting behind the axle. I can stand in between my engine and radiator. My LHS' entire engine sat forward of the front axle. The LHS has a very space efficient design for its size. It has more interior room than a Caprice or Grand Marquis being 5-8" shorter. The space is about the same inside as my Town Car. The handling is the same. That big Lincoln handles sporty like a late 90s Thunderbird, it hugs the road in Florida's notorious slippery oily rainstorms. But that LHS was much faster that 3.5 H.0. outran an Impala SS with the LT1.

      Those are actually vent holes, or "airholes" as I like to call them. They help to get the "air/gas" out of the bag to help deflate quickly, making the airbag not only cushion the head, neck, and chest, but also to help absorb the impact and not act like another solid cushion the upper body hits, that would be almost as bad as hitting the dashboard and/or steering wheel themselves.

    It would be nice if you could buy the engines from the tested vehicles that were rear ended. Or the rear ends from the vehicles that sustained frontal damages.
    After all, the vehicles were bought brand new so there’s no mileage on them. Furthermore it would be a good way for the IIHS to recoup some of their money while providing engines, transmissions and 3rd members at a lower cost to those who need them.
    Heck, I’d love to pull a 5.0L (302) V8 out of an F150 and put it into my Ranger

    back in 1987 my mother had just bought a brand new 1988 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. One day she was leaving Philadelphia to come pick me up from my grandmothers in NJ. Drunk guy in a van was driving the wrong direction from the freeway and my almost hit my mother and baby brother she hit a tree , which came all the way up to the windshield. She only had one leg that was scratched up. When I got to see pictures of the Cadillac the front of the car was torn up but the rest of the car was still in tacked. And they had just started putting some Air bags in some cars. She pointed out to me which tree she hit and for years that tree continued to grow but bent. Cadillac was safe cars, but that was about almost 30 yrs ago. Today cars are so light in material it is hard to tell.

      Exactly, just BS substitution from NBC. Quite stupid of them too, as at the time of testing the '97 model, the 1998 Seville was already in showrooms. The '97 was a car dating back to 1991.
      Clearly IIHS bought a clearance sale '97 over a brand new 1998 Seville.
