What do you do? You properly siege it. I've seen so many videos in men of war of attacks on forts, in waves. but never, a suspended, siege attempt. Bring out artillery, shell the place, soften it, bomb it, mortar it. Probe the defenses with recon units, fortify your own position, then, try to take it, if you fail, shell it MOAR. Unleash hell from the sky! I want to see a video like this. Oh, ye holy Diplex, could you deliver?

at least consider increasing the wave sizes because no army will send in so few troops against defenses that strong, the soviets' strategies in WWII often involved overwhelming their enemy's defenses with infantry and tanks that lacked quality but excelled in quantity. I still enjoyed the video but it didn't seem very strategic.
Yeah, in real life, anyone who ordered their troops to charge Mega Death Fort 4000 without spending a day or two softening it would probably be executed for treason in this period. Imagine Eisenhower in D-Day looking at the Normandy defenses and thinking, "Screw it, lets zerg rush 'em" and the Allies losing half their troops and all of their armor in like an afternoon.

Well the Russian's weren't going to succeed due to the fact only one wave went in at a time. It was like sending lambs to the slaughter against that firepower.

Thinking Patrick It wouldn't have enough area to fire between the gun and the Americans. It would have to be placed over a few miles behind it and be facing the fort. But if it did fire it could destroy whole waves in one shot.

The twin 120-mm gun is actually an Italian weapon. They were made for some of the 1920's and 30's era destroyers and large torpedo boats. Also used as Dual-purpose weapons on battleships and heavy cruisers.
Battle starts at 5:04 also when you do this battle again spread the attackers out and put more waves out at once
i think that'd make the wave attacks more interesting and make them have more suspense

Diplex would have to make a larger fort though, the eight waves in the current version are enough to bring the defenders to bad position, in the British assault for example all outside facing weaponry was destroyed and besides the tiger there was no meaningful defenses on the inside, it would have lasted maybe two more waves, which doesn't exactly express the idea of infinite waves.
The two battles have taught us a lot of things! Let's put that to use in tomorrows episode. The American attack is soon to begin...
Agree! I really feel..and maybe I'm just patriotic but I feel the Americans will win. They should use one or two air strikes. At least some artillery like the British used. They should attack on the flanks and not the front. Will leave it up to you.
you know with all these naval guns i could imagine this beeing a defense Position of some important Harbour facility. Like a giant Submarine Bunker in Belgium or the Netherlands. Maybe call it the Speer or Raeder Battery?

Note: I used version 1.23.4 of the mod in the previous video. Version 1.23.6 is being used in this battle. AI aim tolerance was modified in this patch. That means that the AI will fully aim at their target before firing. It may have decreased the amount of shots fired by the Russians. It probably caused the Mörser to fire less due to the more precise target acquiring required.
You should play totally accurate battle simulator.

Diplex, after each battle, you should replay it, but instead of wave by wave, send everybody at once for a real charge. Btw I love things like this, so keep building imposing fortresses to oppress the countryside.

Concnetrate the heavy and medium armor in the first few waves. The final ones should be mass infantry, static guns and light armor.

If I gave the attacking enemy (no matter the faction) rocket artillery, it would be too easy to destroy the tightly placed defenses.

10:20 the moment the mörßer fires
if youre not interested in sitting through he narrative, the initial wave commences its attack at 4:24 , followed by 6:36 to round out the tier 1 attacks, for tier 2, , 9:07, and the 210 gun initially fires at 10:21 followed by the next wave at 10:41, he actually launches the FOURTH wave at 14:04 , then 16:59, and the final wave is released at 19:33

and i cant belive i'm saying this but if you think its more realistic that they would repair, then i could argue its more realistic the tanks would be ordered to barrage certain areas and they wouldn't be so inaccurate and take so long , it would be " i'm ordered to shoot here i'm going to "
Totally agree! He's giving too much advantage to the defenders. The attackers should have medium artillery pieces to balance them. Also, those minefields are just way overkill.

In General this Fort has not a awfull lot to do with reality. The defenses would be much more streched and Things like the twin 120mm gun would definetly not be part of the first line of the defense.
Well yeah. So why not use such an occasion to throw several hundred infantrymen at the defenses per go?

Almost every part of the base he used, with some minor changes were from the Fortification Asset pack. If you want to build a base like his, look it up on the Workshop. Trust me, they're basically prefabs that you can copy together to make an awesome base. (I suck at editing, and I can make a glorious base.)

also the Mörser only had 3 shots the entire game if you look at the beginning when he clicks on it on the bottom left you can see only 3 shots
You need to make bigger attack squads. And let the Germans Attack for a change maybe you can make something like the Stalin Line soo you would have the Germans attack the fortress and the Soviet Union defend it

Not saying that one side had an easier time or whatever, but logically you can't expect the Russians to do better than the Brits against a fortress the Brits didn't even go against (and yes I know its not a completely different fort but there's enough differences to warrant calling the Naval Fort different compared to the Land Fort).

You focused way too much on that navy gun. And having all the Russians and British attack the same way is dumb and boring, spread them out and attack in different directions. Other wise it's just a rehash of the last wave.
Agree! The amount of attacking army per wave is just a stupid amount compared to the defenses. Like the number of AT guns in the defending side EQUALS to the number of tanks per wave. How are the attackers going to win???

Actually that would be interesting setup where there would be one sprawling fort in the middle that is attacked by the enemy and has to hold out against enemy waves or succumb to them.
How are you able to show both sides in the editor at the same time on editor and game play without one disappearing?

Keep this setup! Please! I'm American and although unrealistic for us to just charge a fort without bombardment or softening of any kind, I want to see if we can by some whim of luck do this. Happy Holidays Diplex!
Great video. I have a suggestion. I dont know how possible it is, But you could set some AA guns and planes so that in some waves planes would try to bomb the fort

DiplexHeated, the reason why the Russians haven't done as well as the Brits did is simply because you haven't taken control of the Russian tanks as you had with the Brits. Nonetheless this was absolutely gorgeous carnage! love it and love your work. keep it up!

diplex the massive cannon on the roof position is a howitzer
I think the big mistake in the attack plan was not leading with the heavy tanks. IS series tanks were infantry support so the guns could smash fortified positions. That was the same role for the KV2 but that tank had the added feature of not working. Not working is generally looked down upon in military circles.

One problem I don't like about sieges is that the attacking force bodies disappear due to the artillery and we can really see how effective the defense is

The Rocket Launcher is called Nebelwerfer
Diplex, it might be against a set of rules you've set for yourself, but perhaps you'll need to order the infantry up yourself, so they don't hold back and stay in cover. The assaulting infantry seem cowardly at best and are running to the cover of the tanks, but the infantry aren't going to move and will sit there, getting pounded by German artillery. With all the MGs there will be an abundance of casualties, so it will likely come to something of a land-based D-Day scenario, but it seems to be the only way to enter the fortress.

Hey every time I am working on the editor with the german super fortress and I switch from F2 to F1 it deletes almost all the vehicles and personal I have added to the map. Any idea why that may be happening?
