Have a 22 Bolt 2 LT EV. Love it. Came from a Volt and this was the next logical step. With the rebate I get monthly from my power company it costs me about $10 a month to drive unless I take an out of town trip. This is a perfect car for a retiree , cheap, low maintenance, low cost to operate and full of features Half the cost of a Tesla Model 3
I had a Bolt and never figured out how to use the adaptive cruise control, lol. The lane keeping was hilarious, it would just ping pong you back and forth. 😅
My Corolla's lane keeping is inconsistent. In city and divided highest driving it's pretty helpful. But on the freeway, it ping pongs hard enough I often turn it off. It just doesn't want to stay in the middle of clearly marked lines, in clear weather, and no traffic. The ADAS literally pulls the wheel too far over to be considered a mere driver monitoring system. The worst part is it's very inconsistent. It doesn't do this every trip.
Lane keep assist can be annoying. I remember driving a Mercedes GLC which is not a big suv but lane keep assist warning keep coming up that I just wanted to disable it immediately.
I drove an Equinox as a rental last year and i couldnt even figure out how to use REGULAR cruise control. The car just dinged and flashed lights at me for 400 miles while I was trying to drive. Made for an incredibly stressful journey.
I'm impressed with the Bolts. They look nice are well built and from most reports drive and handle well. If they can produce enough of them at those prices they're worth it and an excellent entrance point to EVs.
It seems ridiculous but I cross shopped this against a Tesla Model 3. I was really impressed with the Bolt. It's very roomy inside and peppy. Tesla won only because it had a better charging network- I couldn't make the Bolt work for my needs at the time. Fast forward a few years and CCS charging infrastructure has improved quite a bit, but there are still some dead zones in my state. Certainly the Model 3 is better in almost every metric, but I was comparing value to needs, not a specs v specs comparison.
Value it is very good, for city car. Roadtripping,... folks complained about the small/narrow driver seat and bolsters, still true? The roadtripping problem w/ Bolt isn't just CCS 3rd party networks, it is the max 55KW DCFC power/speed that is extremely limiting.... even slow V1 urban superchargers are 72kw. As bad as a Leaf, but at least not heatgated.
Yeah, I would definitely buy the Bolt at more than half the price of a Tesla. Biden says he's giving $5 billion to put in a good charger system, we'll see about that. If he does these legacy EV's will become very popular, especially at this freakish low price of under $20k for the Bolt! I just hope it doesn't have high demand like the Fords that now take forever to wait in line to buy! Hopefully people will not jump on this diamond in the rough and instead order their $60k overpriced Tesla.
@@joeking433 'overpriced' , well in market economy an overpriced item simply won't sell and the price will either decrease or the company will go out of business. Just because you can't afford something does not make it overpriced. That's it from market economics 101.
I also cross shopped to see how things compared. The front seats were horrible at the time though! And first gen camera quality was displayed like a toy quality instead of HD. Other then that it was decent.
@@bluetoad2668 No, in a time of lack of supply, cars become temporarily overpriced. Elon promised his little compact car, the model 3, would be under $35k. And that is a fair price for it. But now, because the market will bear it he jacked the price close to $50k. It's not worth $50k when you can get a Bolt for half that. I think soon Elon will have to cut prices drastically to compete. I will never buy one of his cars because all the Tesla fanboys make me vomit.
I enjoyed my 2019 Bolt. It was a good car. I deserves it's $25,000 price tag(but no more). That being said, I sold it for a Model Y, now I'm spoiled with autopilot and all the other Tesla features. My second car(for commuting when my wife drives the Telsa to work) is a Smart ForTwo ED. I'd sell that for a Bolt if the used prices ever come down enough.
I would love to own a Tesla but could never afford the monthly loan payments. That is way I am looking at the Bolt. So far plenty of bang for the buck. Just wish it could charge faster.
If you're in a Tesla, those phantom brakes can be annoying. I'm hoping their regular cruise control works if there's something wrong with the adaptive cruise (radar malfunction). With Tesla, it's all or nothing. If your Tesla's ADAS malfunctions while you're on a road trip, have fun modulating that accelerator.
@@magnusauto7941 - that phantom braking is definitely annoying. I still feel adaptive cruise control is worth it though, especially with auto steer. I’m so much more relaxed after a long drive not having to constantly monitor the road. Also the phantom braking doesn’t happen as often as reported, at least from my experience with it.
Got to check the pedestrian avoidance a month ago on my 2020 Bolt premier, dash with light rain and a camouflaged person in the center of my lane w/splotchy gray and dark gray hoody and pavement gray pants! I was going 35MPH when the car flashed the warning lights one the dash and screeched at me, I still could not see the guy until the car was passing him! Check your dash for a hole in the front left which should have the super bright LED system! It saved one dummy so far without any help from me!
Mike is really too nice towards all the ADAS systems. If it doesnt work in a meaningful way, manufacturers need to obviously state it and not hide disclaimers deep inside the manual. all the while marketing the heck out of the adas features
I agree, he gives the system and car much to good a review. The ADAS should not allow the car to drift out of lane to the point where there could be a collision. A warning is NOT enough.
@@terrysullivan1992 I drove a 2015 GM Suburban with ADAS. The ADAs would not let me deviate more than 6 inches from the center of the driving lane without getting a warning. It was a painful driving experience. Vibration under your butt, right or left of your legs becomes very annoying, the same with any sound warning. 4 years later, i change the Suburban for 2019 Yukon XL and all of those complaints disappeared. The Yukon has a colourful HUD… which is a fabulous idea because you always look outside of the vehicle and get all the basic visual info on the vehicle windshield glass… including all warnings. GM has learn how to set the parameters of the ADAS to provide a safe and enjoyable driving experience.
This comment will also be from the perspective of someone in the Midwestern United States. I have a 2019 Bolt (early 2019 model so I was first in line for a new battery), and this car has basically been a punching bag for the automotive media since it was released. I'm like 95% sure Munro costed one of these years ago, but I've never heard them mention it directly on this channel so I'm guessing it was either under NDA, or they figured it just wasn't worth talking about. The reality of the matter for the Bolt is : It's GM's only non-Ultium car it's selling at this point (granted, I'm pretty sure the only Ultium vehicle being sold as of the writing of this comment is the zillion dollar Hummer EV), and the 55 kW DC fast charging is a deal killer for almost everyone that doesn't have housing off-street parking that they can install Level 2 EVSE to charge from. I bought the Bolt when I did because : - I was going to be taking a job that would involve a fixed route with 80 miles per day of commuting (so 400 miles of driving per week just going back and forth to work) - I have housing with with off-street parking that I could install Level 2 EVSE to charge from - At the time of purchase I could get the full $7,500.00 back from Uncle Sam with my then federal tax liabilities, as well as a $1,500.00 tax credit from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that they no longer offer - *I would still be keeping and maintaining a gasoline vehicle* in addition to owning the Bolt That was on top of GM discounting my 1LT about 20% off the then-MSRP of $38,000.00 because (shocker lol), they couldn't move the units at that MSRP price point. Supposedly, the $37,000.00 starting MSRP of a 2019 1LT was already a $7,000.00 loss for GM (before any manufacturer/dealer incentives), so that 20% off MSRP I got made it even less worthwhile. I'll give GM credit for being the first-to-market with an EV that had over 200 miles of range for under $40,000.00... but this car has been a financial disaster for GM with those numbers, compounded with the billions they and LG have had to spend in battery replacements. The Bolt is not a sustainable vehicle for the company to continue to manufacture at its current pricing structure. The best I can figure is : The Bolt was GM "introducing" their customer base to the electric vehicles they ultimately going to move toward. Unfortunately, the widely publicized vehicle fires probably squashed any kind of positive mass media attention the Bolt would have received. All this said : If you have a massive fixed-route commute, and can get your hands on a 1LT for the current $26,000.00 MSRP, it's going to be the cheapest EV by far you can buy until the Chinese models arrive to North America.
They only spent $1 billion for replacement batteries and GM is suing LG for that cost. I think it is an insane cost (under $20k after tax credit) and would think it would end up like all the other EV's Ford and GM are selling that have a long waiting list. Maybe that's why they lowered the price? It takes care of a few problems, it will show people are over the battery fire debacle, and it will give it the perception that it's highly prized if people are waiting in line to buy it. I just bought a Ford Maverick Hybrid and I saw it as a great deal at $20k MSRP especially when so many cars were selling at over MSRP. Evidently so did many others because Ford was overwhelmed by the demand.
I think the 3 second press to change between adaptive and regular cruise control makes sense as a safety feature. If it was a single press, someone could accidentally switch between the two with a tap and that could be hazardous. Someone could take their foot off the brake/accelerator thinking adaptive would do it for them and if they don't realize it is just regular cruise control, could cause an accident. That said, they should make it more obvious how to switch, so that it is more intuitive right away (rental car style, as you said). Maybe putting the word "HOLD" on the button.
Just picked up a bolt euv launch edition and it's exceeded expectations. I bought it as it's one of the first post-recall production units. It's the white interior if anyone has dark and would like to trade, do let me know!
It would be really interesting for you guys to review a car with a Comma 3 installed in it. Quite a few cars are supported, and it seems like a great addon to have when a car has the hardware but not the full 'self driving' packages.
Adaptive cruise control should be standard on all cars I love it despite it not always picking up a car infront of me and not being able to come to a full stop when the person infront of me stops abruptly.
Correction: This car does not have a front radar unit; ADAS is relying entirely on the front facing camera. Only the Bolt EUV with SuperCruise has a front radar
Lane Keeping is not Autosteer. It does only what it promises: help you keep inside the lane as YOU steer. It’s a safety feature, not a convenience feature.
We drive our bolt Euv in sport mode as there’s less play in the steering. Lane keep assist is terrible and the signal and wiper stocks feel like they’ll snap in half. Other than that it’s pretty efficient and ventilated seats are a plus.
i was pro-button, anti-tablet, zealot... then i got a tesla and realized in the end its all about quality of exeuction execution. in the same way i was pro keyboard on smartphone (windows mobile, palm pre, blackberries).... but would never go back to that stuff now the chevrolet stuff looks like a righteous mess
Too bad they didn't give an either/or option. I love my S but hate the interface. In my old farm dog Explorer, I can find any function I want without taking my eyes off the road. Give me a HVAC mechanical controls any day.
@@mothaybabonnam5632 lol I used to be the same way too with the blackberry keyboards. Then when I got my first full touchscreen phone(samsung gs3) I never looked back.
Parts bin parts are cheap because there is no design work required. But it IS the reason the Lane Keep Assist button is in a awkward spot. They mapped out all the existing buttons and ran out of room. Personally I am a fan of buttons ONLY for classic controls like volume and HVAC, lights and wipers, but all these extra controls IMO shouldnt be dedicated buttons. It makes for a confusing mess. Like the "professional" digital cameras that have 500 physical buttons. It makes for a shitty experience IMO having to learn every button. I hate it when I have to drive new rental cars because of all this crap I have to learn where everything is and learn each auromakers different icons for all these fancy new tools. Its a software setting, it should be a software interface.
Why would you turn adaptive cruise off? Been using my adaptive cruise for 4 years and have NEVER encountered a situation where I wanted to turn it off.
I didn't even know you could turn off adaptive cruise control in mine, until I turned it off by accident. I thought the system was broken. I accidentally held the left button when I was disabling it once.
Agree that you need more than an icon on the dash when getting too close. One of the nice features in my XTS Vseries was the seat feedback. The seat would vibrate if you were drifting out of your lane or getting too close. It was a very nice feature once you realized why part of your seat was vibrating. Question in regards to adaptive cruise - How quickly does it resume your set speed when you switch to another lane to pass slower traffic. One of the complains with my Tesla (X & S) is that it slows pretty aggressively when you are coming up on traffic and there is a noticeable delay for the speed to resume even after you have switched lanes. IMHO, once you're signalling and beginning to switch lanes, it should start accelerating. Curious how this behaves in the Bolt.
head up display should be mandatory on all cars… I drive a GM car with a HUD and it makes a big difference . Your eyes are looking outside, not inside to get basic info… which make the driving experience safer and more enjoyable.
It has a bank of LEDs on the left of the dash near the windshield that light up and makes a loud beep if you come up on a car. It also preps the brakes for a quick stop. If you ignore it, it will automatically apply the brakes to help avoid rear ending someone. It does say in the manual that it may not stop quick enough, so don't totally rely on the system.
Thanks team for making this video. GM uses the same ADAS system through out every line up of thier vehicles. Last spring I drove a new Chevy Silverado WT that was fully loaded and couldn't figure out how to turn it on either while driving and pressing every button for 1-2 seconds. Like often does everyone press and release a button in thier life and it turns on in a second? GM changes something that should be instant what people are used to by press and quick release. I have to reset my watch and turn off my cellphone by press and holds but that's it! One day renting another truck I had to watch videos on how it works and what the buttons do but they don't tell really tell you have press and hold for 3-4 seconds. They make it look real easy that just give a touch and it turns on. I agree with guy demonstrated it's a stupid system and annoying because as new driver you think the ADAS doesn't work and it makes it assume the driver doesn't know how to use it at all. I rented another GM van from the same location a number if times that needed a wheel alignment and wouldn't trust to use the ADAS because you had keep a grip on the steering wheel. There is a mind set the vans ADAS will also steer itself when ADAS is activated because you just want to also steer with a light finger or hand grip on the bottom of the streering wheel. Munro may not care about AAA surveys? They did a whole survey 2021 between young to older drivers about all the ways new drivers will learn to operate a vehicles ADAS. Most drivers prefer the hands on try by error while driving. Some older drivers will read the owners manual. There are other ways that these drivers will learn how to use each ADAS. So yeah if you ever rent a newer car with ADAS you got watch videos if your going use that feature because it's going be diffrent from makes. GM has thier own instructional videos but again nothing is pointed out that you press hold for 3 seconds to activate it. Remember back in the day cruise control was just a press of a button on the turn signal switch with a switch to adjust speed and top turn it off? You didn't have press and hold either? Why does GM have to make it hard to turn something on? I get it you have to press and hold to program the radio station and reset the trip meter but that should be it.
This was car of the year not too long ago. Everything I have heard from people who own one is positive plus the price is great! Thanks for the look into the vehicle.
@@markplott4820 that’s all you’ve got? For what it is the Bolt is a great car for the price. I’ve put 244,000kms on my 2017 Bolt, it’s been a great car and saved us tons on gas money (which I buy Tesla stock with 😉)
Why would you need normal cruise control when you have adaptive cruise control? In my previous car I had normal cruise control and I hardly have used it because it is more than anoying in the busy Dutch traffic that speeds up and slows down all the time. Now I have adaptive cruise control, I use it all tge time!
Most of these replys all complain about not enough features, etc. I don't want a computer chip controlling my car by a corporation controlling me. I think many of us would like a very simple 1972 Volkswagen Bug/ Toyota Corolla type EV car that gets us to the store, golf course or work while passing by the evil gas stations. And ya use those old knobs that worked flawlessly for decades, not a computer that will cost 1ks of $$ to replace after my windshield wipers quit in a middle of a rain storm. The simpler it is the less can go wrong.
Yeah, that's all I need to start relying on a computer to drive the car! I'll forget how to drive in an emergency! I want the least amount of computerized bullshit on my car as possible and the most knobs instead of wading through menus. I do like getting 100mpg, though and not having to go to gas stations or supporting Saudi Arabia! My BIL has a Model X and I was not impressed with the FSD and wouldn't want it at all.
Wow, the warning icons on the dash are stupid. If the driver is not aware because they're not looking (at the road), then is it reasonable to think they're looking (at the dash)? I do like the parking 360° view.
I'd like to know this, too. And will it take off from a stop with just a button push or do you have to set it up again. Is it full stop/go tech? (Although, admittedly, at the price point we'd probably take whichever!)
An affordable entry level EV hatchback for those who want a second car along with their SUV. Its not perfect of course but its a good little EV that handles well. Too bad it suffered from the LG Chem battery fires and GM was lazy to use that as an opportunity to reassure customers and potential buyers with regular advertisements that they are proactively replacing the faulty batteries while promoting the Bolt EV and EUV.
19 Bolts caught fire out of 150k sold. You're more likely to get hit by lightning. I'm sure they've fixed it for the 2023 models which will be $26k and under $20k with the tax credit. They should sell like hotcakes! And yes, GM is spending a billion dollars replacing the batteries in Bolts (and suing LG to get the $1B).
Some people like their Bolts better than the twice as expensive Tesla compact! I don't like the Tesla. It's too expensive, you have to dig through menus to change anything which is really dangerous while you're driving, and they target cop cars, LOL!
It's clear that Mike (and many of the viewers) doesn't know the functional difference between lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and active lane centering.
While I applaud the video effort BUT this is a review of what’s now OLD tech. There are plenty of videos out there from when this was released 2 years ago.
The title is Chevy bolt ADAS review, not a general review. He stated this is not Super Cruise. So many repeated identical comment, why use cruise control when there's smart cruise control.
Yo, Munro, Why didn't you test a Bolt EUV with the optional Super Cruise? The only True Hands Free DAS system! Not even mentioning that it is an option is not good reporting.
Munroe’s wife said the regen braking was like coasting in an ICE car. Someone should have shown her how to turn on regenerative braking in the center console
Why would you ever want to switch between “regular” cruise control and Adaptive cruise control. If the car is capable of Adaptive, wouldn’t you just always use that configuration?
My older Model S adaptive cruise is disabled while there is wet snow coming down. It's hard to maintain even low speeds in an EV without cruise control.
@@bftjoe thank you. where did you see that published? This is my disappointment with adaptive cruise in the EUV, great regen opportunities missed, plus strange noises (brake grab) at low speed if I try to accelerate through adaptive cruise.
How was the feel of the driver seat? I sat in one briefly and it felt very firm, not sure it would be good for a long trip. Car and Driver said the 2023 was suppose to be more comfortable.
@@cgamiga Tesla seems to have the same problem. Are you heavy? Here's what was said in a forum: "I've had my MYP for several days now and am experiencing discomfort with the driver seat. Specifically the left bolster seems to dig into my left hip. I'm 6'/200lbs with white seats. The best position so far was to raise the seat to flatten the seat pad. Is there a break-in period or will this be persistent?" And another guy answered: _"everyone's proverbial mileage will vary as we all have unique bodies, but I would generally agree with you. As a larger gent myself (more in the width department than the height), I do find that the seat bottom bolsters--particularly the left--dig into my thighs. For short trips it's generally fine but on longer drives (e.g. recent road trip) it does get uncomfortable for me too. I haven't experimented a lot with my seating position but would agree that moving the chair up a bit (you're taller than me, but the Y does at least have a ton of headroom to work with) seems to help. I would say keep trying different seating positions, and take as frequent of breaks as possible on longer drives, to get out and stretch or walk around a little, helps."_
Sounds like the controls of my i3. But that was out like 9 years ago... I do like the non-anoying approach they used. Some cars are not self driving but do pretend to be (annoyingly) better at it...
GM will sell many of these cars and is leading the way in affordable EVs. People who purchase a vehicle in this niche don't require all the bells and whistles found on cars like Tesla. Make no mistake, an excellent essential transportation car like this will fit most drivers' needs for an economical, reliable car to get around town or back and forth to work. But I worry that GM dealers will be marking up these cars as demand increases. It would be good if consumers could buy this car online to avoid price gouging. If the recently legislated federal tax breaks apply to this car, it will be a real bargain. All around, I think Bolt is a winner.
Uh no they barely made over 120k of these since 2016 in total. And every one got recalled. And for quite sometime a loaded bolt without rebates was similar price wise to a model 3 Sr. Sandy looked underneath the bolt and his team all mentioned how cheaply it's built. Meanwhile under a model 3 he's said it reminds him of a BMW. Probably why the most commonly traded in conquest on a tesla model 3 is the BMW 3 series. Also the bolt is not part of gms ultium platform lineup so it's going away not increasing in production. 🤔
Do you think it will become like a Ford Maverick situation where it is seen as a great deal and then it will take a long time to get one and the ones on the lot will be marked up a lot? I just bought a Maverick (great truck!) and I"m looking at the Bolt as my second car.
The Bolt doesn't exactly have the greatest pedigree though, I don't think they'll sell many at all. They'll market hybrids heavily instead. Pure EVs are still not the priority for legacy and that's going bite them and bite them hard.
@@legacytesla I like it and it makes perfect sense it's like the standard for traction control "are you sure you want this feature off" it avoids accidental button presses thinking you're in ACC but really in standard cruise control.
If you have adaptive cruise control, I don’t see why anyone would just use the normal cruise control. It’s not even available in Tesla. Tesla just have adaptive cruise control. Next up is the Auto Pilot which turns the steering wheel for you and stay in lane. Then of course the famous FSD (beta)
Don't know why people insist on comparing Bolt to the M3. If there were no Bolts, I would not be driving an M3, I could never afford one. But I can afford a Bolt so I drive it instead of an ICE.
I drove a Chevy Equinox last year as a rental and it was a confusing mess. The buttons for lane keep and adaptive cruise had weird icons which I spent half the drive trying to figure out what they even meant. Some were on the steering wheel some were on the left next to the headlight settings.... (I dont even understand why modern cars HAVE headlight settings. My 2002 Saturn had automatic headlights and that is just what it should always be). Even when cruise and lane keep were activated, it was just the same dumb icon on the button lit up on the dash. I only understood some of it because of driving the Saturn. Terrible design. I cant even comment on how well they worked because I couldnt really figure out when they were on. I thought lane keep was activated but aside from alot of beeping and flashing it didnt seem to do anything. I gave up on cruise control and just had to do regular driving because I couldnt figure it out, which pissed me off because Ive been using cruise control when driving since the mid 90s and Ive never encountered a less intuitive system. What settings were in the UI were also confusing. GM seems to think icons are superior to words in interfaces and IMO it is much more difficult. And there was plenty of dinging and flashing in the Equinox... No idea what 90% of that racket was about. But it definitely made me feel LESS SAFE because I was agitated and stressed out by it. It put me in a fight or flight state instead of a relaxed but aware state. Someone at Munro must have turned off those in this car after being annoyed at them because your drive was incredibly quiet. After that whole experience I am not at all convinced GM needs to be making things more complicated!
It's hilarious how little you understand about the difference between lane keep assist and active lane centering. Also, if you think your rental equinox had adaptive cruise, you're only kidding yourself.
@@patreekotime4578 if only the car came with a book in the glove box that explained all that stuff. You can take 10 minutes to bitch about it on a TH-cam channel comment section, but can't take 10 minutes to read or Google it? User error dude.
Nice. I wanted to hear a bit about the regen. Does the sports mode button alter the regen? How well do the paddles work on the steering wheel for regen control?
2017 Bolt here: Sport mode doesn’t affect already aggressive regeneration, seems to be only throttle calibration. Selecting L mode on the shifter is much more meaningful. Traction control can be turned off. Holding the traction control button for a few seconds also shuts off stabilitrack. You can do some parking lot antics within the confines of being front wheel drive and having high efficiency (not sticky) tires. I have not done any parking lot antics myself. There is virtually no FWD torque steer. The Bolt feels nicely composed and nimble in normal driving.
When you get "Way too close", the car has a red blinky that shines on the windshield like heads-up display and there is a very audible warning alert sound. LKAS - basic lane keeping SuperCruise - "OK" lane centering UltraCruise - "OK" lane centering with auto passing and a lot more. You didn't talk about "One-Pedal" driving. The one-pedal button is on/off all the time, by the "D" selector. The bizarre thing about the One-Pedal setting is it works in reverse. Also, adaptive cruise control uses brake pads to slow the car. For maximum regen turn off the cruise control when approaching the stop light. When in city traffic with lots of cars, ACC can follow the car in front and stop. It only takes one tap up on the resume to "GO" and keep following the car ahead, literally "NO PEDAL DRIVING".
I can say that feature on my hond accord hybrid 2020 has been turned off because it pushes from one side to another and will sometimes not notice the line and go over it.
just got a bolt ev and none of this system worked from the factory, the dealership and GM say they don't test... just as a heads up. The loaner bolt poped up with a transmission issue with only 1,000 and appears to be common. as a FYI to anyone looking
Because the Bolt is an affordable car. You start adding a lot of features then it becomes not so affordable. If supercruise is important to you then buy a car with it. Me, I like my Bolt and think it is a lot of car for the money.
@@steven4315 It is not affordable. GM loses thousands of dollars on every sale. Building a car without safety equipment does save money, but why would a consumer buy it? Think about that.
@@davidbeppler3032 My Bolt has all the safety equipment most other cars have. Supercruise is not a safety item. If GM is losing money on Bolt sales, that is their problem, not mine. Tesla lost money for years.
Ridiculous to criticize an ADAS system on a $35,000 car. Why don’t you just congratulate GM for producing a solid EV at this price. Tesla promised to do it and didn’t.
They did, actually - back in 2019. It was so wildly popular that they ultimately raised the price to prevent a multi-year waiting list. Overwhelming demand has been the primary reason the price has remained higher ever since.
I would be interested to see if GM takes the initiative to make a mid-model change in some of these software pieces being mentioned. My guess is that they are not reacting in real time to customer feedback.
I think that the Bolt EV and EUV are EOL as of the 2022 changes. Even if they carry it into 2024 out of a perception that the Equinox EV is too expensive, it'll be the same car.
How can one react in real time when it's a brand new 1st year release not even widely available. Plus there's the chip shortage. You make with what's due.
I'm having a hard time coming up with a reason the car should even have "regular" (AKA brain dead) cruise control when adaptive cruise control is available.
@@steven4315 ??? Is there a lower cost basic version of the Bolt cruise control that is $375 cheaper? If so, I can see how someone would opt for that. But I still don't understand why a car WITH adaptive cruise control would have, or need, a way to downgrade to standard "dumb" cruise control. There's no upside I can think of.
@@steven4315 I missed that, thanks. But my main point was in reference to the "long press" option discussed that switches a car equipped with adaptive cruise control back to plain cruise control. Once you have spent the extra, why ever turn it off?
Nobody understands that it is a lane keeping " assist " , of course it's going to ping pong you around just because you aren't driving right. The adaptive cruise control works wonderfully and it does what it's suppose to. I would want people to rely on it because people just wanna put make-up on their face while driving or they are distracted by their phones, so yeah it works better than idiotic driving from humans on these streets. I can't wait until they improve more and more on the system because obviously humans can't stop killing each other with their driving.
I had a 2020 Bolt with the optional emergency braking. I was not at all impressed. It frequently gave warnings for no problems, yet my wife bombed a car with no warning or braking. I've seen lights flashing a beeping for a vehicle in the opposite direction totally in their lane. But even for all the warnings, it never once actually applied the brakes. So basically useless. the lane keep basically bounced off the line once the tire started over the line. OK maybe for a shoulder, but outright dangerous for a car in the next lane. After two years with the poorly designed and built car, I would not trust the GM's ADAS at all. I've since moved to a MME where all of that and adaptive CC is standard. I won't say it's great, but it is like night and day better. Lane keep is very good, but braking not so good, Never hit anything, but it could be smoother in execution. it sometimes picks up speed limit signs not on my road. There really is not comparison to my old Bolt. The MME is so much better, it's like the difference between an F and a B+. The MME maybe doesn't deserve a B+, but the Bolt deserves less than an F. It literally hit a car at low speeds.
I don't see why people need all this computerized crap anyway. Just seems to me that it will dumb down drivers so they suck at driving even worse than they do now! What is an MME?
Any take what you guys think of the current attack on Tesla Autopilot and Full Self Driving technology by the media and politicians? Love to hear See Sandy thoughts.
Ralph Nader is wrong on that one, it will end up being more safe, autonomous should always be compared to human drivers. There's also a hit piece TV commercial trying to ban FSD.
When driving on the roads why not use the L mode so you have full regenerative braking and hold feature when you stop? I see that the D mode is better in winter on ice and snow but in good weather the L mode is superior giving a full regenerative boost on every slow down.
It's not needed -- there's the paddle on the wheel if more regen braking force is desired. Plenty of force in regular mode however, almost too much for around town driving.
@@firstbigbarney Driver preference, I use L, my wife uses D. She does not like L and after 42 years I have learned to pick my battles. 🙂 I can see her point when in D a Bolt acts like an ICE car. Some people like that.

Why would you need non adaptive Cruise control? Wouldn't cost much for a piezo buzzer maker for lane assist. It looks good & the price is fair. GM wouldn't be making any money on it.
I'll stick with my VW Golf R Stick, manual, 4wd , super quick, fantastic handling, and seats, and steering,it's called DRIVING. stick shift keeps ya alert, cus it's actually DRIVING, not sitting going along for the roll.
I'm getting one once they figure out if the new ones get the tax rebate.
Hahaha same here !
Orig Bolt did not have adaptive cruise control.
I'm impressed with the Bolts. They look nice are well built and from most reports drive and handle well. If they can produce enough of them at those prices they're worth it and an excellent entrance point to EVs.
Good luck trying to get one!
They are not well built
Yeah, I heard they were really well made and have all the bugs ironed out.
@@thestratman344 Says a guy who likes Strats, LOL!
And they're well built, a great car for smart people who don't want to spend a lot on a car.
Nice video. I have a 2017 Bolt, and note a ton of meaningful refinements shown. Nicer car and now with entry point below $30K. Good job.
Just had to comment: We also have a Model Y (wife-baby car), and a Smart Fortwo ED (my car)

I would love to own a Tesla but could never afford the monthly loan payments. That is way I am looking at the Bolt. So far plenty of bang for the buck. Just wish it could charge faster.
I've seen people say they like the Bolt better than the Teslas. If you like the Tesla better it's probably a matter of Sunk Cost Fallacy.

Why would you use regular cruise control if you have the option to use adaptive?
If you're in a Tesla, those phantom brakes can be annoying. I'm hoping their regular cruise control works if there's something wrong with the adaptive cruise (radar malfunction). With Tesla, it's all or nothing. If your Tesla's ADAS malfunctions while you're on a road trip, have fun modulating that accelerator.
@@magnusauto7941 that’s why you can never trust a software based system for braking, which can be life or death situation
I agree with you, my wife's ICE car only has ACC.
I don't know
Got to check the pedestrian avoidance a month ago on my 2020 Bolt premier, dash with light rain and a camouflaged person in the center of my lane w/splotchy gray and dark gray hoody and pavement gray pants!

What I've learned from watching these ADAS videos: turning the system on is the hardest part.
Knowing is half the battle
I bought the Bolt when I did because :
- I was going to be taking a job that would involve a fixed route with 80 miles per day of commuting (so 400 miles of driving per week just going back and forth to work)
- I have housing with with off-street parking that I could install Level 2 EVSE to charge from
- At the time of purchase I could get the full $7,500.00 back from Uncle Sam with my then federal tax liabilities, as well as a $1,500.00 tax credit from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that they no longer offer
- *I would still be keeping and maintaining a gasoline vehicle* in addition to owning the Bolt
That was on top of GM discounting my 1LT about 20% off the then-MSRP of $38,000.00 because (shocker lol), they couldn't move the units at that MSRP price point.
Again, you need a consistent test suite to test all features across brands. Very hard to ADAS systems this way.

We drive our bolt Euv in sport mode as there’s less play in the steering. Lane keep assist is terrible and the signal and wiper stocks feel like they’ll snap in half. Other than that it’s pretty efficient and ventilated seats are a plus.

@@steamtorch cool! Is there a for two?
Why would you turn adaptive cruise off? Been using my adaptive cruise for 4 years and have NEVER encountered a situation where I wanted to turn it off.
It's for Mad Max mode, where you have to smash through all other vehicles in your way.
@@videopyc My 2014 XTS V series, 2008 STS-V, and even an old (1998) Pontiac Grand Prix all had that feature. HUGE fan of them.

Yep, also a great 2nd car to another bolt or only car.

earlier bolts folks had complained about the narrow seatpan/bolsters hitting you...
@@cgamiga Tesla seems to have the same problem. Are you heavy? Here's what was said in a forum: "I've had my MYP for several days now and am experiencing discomfort with the driver seat. Is there a break-in period or will this be persistent?"
And another guy answered: _"everyone's proverbial mileage will vary as we all have unique bodies, but I would generally agree with you. As a larger gent myself (more in the width department than the height), I do find that the seat bottom bolsters--particularly the left--dig into my thighs.

All around, I think Bolt is a winner.
yes buying online is how it should be.

RVM for rear view mirrror, now? C’mon. Not even sure what ADAS means, as an opener.
I think holding the cruise master for a few seconds to disable adaptive cruise has become industry standard. Many car companies do it
Doesn't make it right
@@legacytesla I like it and it makes perfect sense it's like the standard for traction control "are you sure you want this feature off" it avoids accidental button presses thinking you're in ACC but really in standard cruise control.
Sounds scary AF!
Don't know why people insist on comparing Bolt to the M3. If there were no Bolts, I would not be driving an M3, I could never afford one. But I can afford a Bolt so I drive it instead of an ICE.
The Tesla cars don't impress me. Especially being so overpriced. I want the least amount of computerized bullshit as possible, LOL!
Tesla's are great, the price is out of the question for me. Bolts used to be very affordable used.
@@rp9674 Keep in mind that all Bolts have a new longer ranged battery installed, paid for by LG.
@@steven4315 that thought is always on my mind, I still hope to get a used Bolt, it's just going to take longer, maybe 3 years.
@@rp9674 Starting 1-1-23 the Bolt will get a $7500 credit. The credit is at point of sale.
@@16bcurtis Like I said, its a confusing mess. 🤷 How the hell is ANYONE in a rental situation supposed to know how to use ANY of it?
LKAS - basic lane keeping
SuperCruise - "OK" lane centering
UltraCruise - "OK" lane centering with auto passing and a lot more.
I can say that feature on my hond accord hybrid 2020 has been turned off because it pushes from one side to another and will sometimes not notice the line and go over it.
normal cruise, adaptive cruise, super cruise, blue cruise... what a Charlie Foxtrot ... I have no idea what it all does and means :D
just got a bolt ev and none of this system worked from the factory, the dealership and GM say they don't test... just as a heads up. The loaner bolt poped up with a transmission issue with only 1,000 and appears to be common. as a FYI to anyone looking
Source please?
Styling aside.....love it.
Even better for me, I like the styling!
Can you update the ADAS to supercruise OTA. Whoops
So buy a Tesla when you grow up, what's the problem
A pivotal question. How many GM models are built in the US? I would surmise not too many. This one looks like a Korean or Chinese-made model
Can someone explain to me why the Bolt does not have supercruise? That makes no sense.
@@steven4315 Supercruise is not a safety item? Then what does it do? I thought it could follow cars, change lanes, and stop? You are saying it can't?
@@davidbeppler3032 In nearly all cars the driver does those things.
Like Tesla, eh?
@@joeking433 Tesla didn't make as bad a mistake with chip supply as most manufacturer's made.
@@GeorgeKnighton Got a source for this or are you just pulling it out of your butt?
Chevy, please offer optional AWD.
No room in this platform. Equinox EV will be big enough to have the second motor in back.
I'm afraid it would blow up their price range, but that would be awesome
Electric Blazer should be available with fwd, rwd or awd
This is basically similar in size to the Tesla Model 2 that got put on hold.
I'm having a hard time coming up with a reason the car should even have "regular" (AKA brain dead) cruise control when adaptive cruise control is available.
$375, I drive on rural highways where traffic is rarely an issue.
@@jimmurphy5355 The video says adaptive cruise control is a $375 option at about 1:55.
@@steven4315 I missed that, thanks. But my main point was in reference to the "long press" option discussed that switches a car equipped with adaptive cruise control back to plain cruise control. Once you have spent the extra, why ever turn it off?
@@jimmurphy5355 Don't know, but you have that capability if you want to.
Why is no one from Munro & Associates talking about the Chevy Bolt battery fires & recalls? Multiple videos & no mention at all... 🤔
Why are people still hung up on it, bolts got a free new battery, if you don't want one don't buy one
Yes, more safety for everybody, and eventually more mobility for elderly handicap and impaired.
You have to PAY for adaptive cruise?
Yup! What do you think this is, Honda?
360 degree view was on my 2013 Leaf. Big deal.
It's a big deal when all Teslas don't have it at up to 7x the cost.
Does MME mean Mach E?
@@jamesengland7461 : Yea, seems to mean "Mustang Mach-E". That was a first me as well, had to Google it!
I don't see why people need all this computerized crap anyway. Just seems to me that it will dumb down drivers so they suck at driving even worse than they do now! What is an MME?

check out the new blade batteries tesla will be using in the Model Y in berli
Any take what you guys think of the current attack on Tesla Autopilot and Full Self Driving technology by the media and politicians? Love to hear See Sandy thoughts.
Ralph Nader is wrong on that one, it will end up being more safe, autonomous should always be compared to human drivers. There's also a hit piece TV commercial trying to ban FSD.
Well that was a meek review.
So weird that overtaking on the right side.
Makes the dynamic of driving more dangerous.
Only left side overtaking is a better situation.
For its cheapness, I'd go for it. I wouldn't buy into ADAS though and of course it will be charging 20 feet from my house but it's cheap.
Good luck in getting one!
Oh I drive a car you seem to hate, though
When driving on the roads why not use the L mode so you have full regenerative braking and hold
feature when you stop? I see that the D mode is better in winter on ice and snow but in good
weather the L mode is superior giving a full regenerative boost on every slow down.
It's not needed -- there's the paddle on the wheel if more regen braking force is desired. Plenty of force in regular mode however, almost too much for around town driving.
@@mhamma6560 Why do that when in L it is automatic?
My wife never uses D mode.
Why even have two modes?

Adaptive cruise or regular. You paid for easy and you get a difficult system.
So I guess it should be called a "Lane Departed Warning"
How about Lane keep ASSIST, all caps, as in you're supposed to still be driving.
This may be the only care that the average consumer might consider. The TESLA buyers are generally high income earners.........the Luxury Car market!
