This is really an excellent update on the ID.4. Thank you!! In particular, I sincerely appreciate the fact that you are both thorough and objective in your assessments of different EVs. Keep it up!! I would vote for you to do more videos like this one for a wide variety of different EVs. I don’t know how easy or hard it is for you to get test cars from the manufacturers, but keep trying. This is great stuff!
The travel assist feature uses capacitive touch to tell if you are holding wheel, not torque like in the some other systems. Capacitive is much better than torque for this application.
The steering wheel is capacitive. When it says "take control of the steering" it wants you to grab the steering wheel a little firmer. It does not require any steering input on your part, it just couldn't sense your hand on the wheel at the time. I drive in that mode as often as possible and I love it. In a few rare situations, it quit steering completely because it couldn't tell what the lanes were (it was in an area of interstate road work). Otherwise, I often am at the wheel for a few hours where I did absolutely nothing. If it didn't require my hand on the wheel, I could be in the back seat sleeping .
VW decided to not put a heat pump in the American version of this car. I’m not sure why it’s a good idea to have one in Europe but not necessary here. Most companies have decided it’s worthwhile putting one in their EVs and it so happens that the climate I live in is fairly ideal for a heat pump, so its a dealbreaker for me.
It was only an expensive option in Europe before. Probably still the same with this latest model. Really stupid because it means owners have a bad experience in winter.
@@ManfredvonHolstein The Ford Mach E is the only other car in the category that doesn’t come with a heat pump. Ford decided to put one in the F150, but not the Mach E after they updated it. I’ve got plenty of choices, so I’m not compromising on that feature. I have a PHEV and it even has it.
Recently bought the 2024 ID4 Pro S RWD. It was down to the ID4 and a 2024 Ioniq 5 SEL RWD. It was such a tight call that my husband and I actually sat down with pro/con lists on both vehicles. Which ultimately didn't help much, but it was that close of a call. Both are excellent vehicles. The B - mode is not the most efficient mode. You will save more energy when the car is sailing without using the motor. The reason is that recuperation has losses. So some amount of your kinetic energy will not be available for making some miles.
The country roads you have shown do look very similar to the ones engineers from Volkswagen see when they drive home after work. May explain a bit why the car 'likes' that surrouinding..
How come your 2024 ID4 pro S RWD looks different than mine when both are built in US? Mine has windshield heater and has 6 buttons instead of four on that panel where you have rear defroster and front max defeoster. My car was bought in Canada
I understand you have to go Pro and above to get the updated infotainment and enhancements. Base car is still the old stuff. Seems like the updated ID4 is worth considering. They need to get the prices down. They aren't competing well with Tesla on price in this space yet.
Btw, the sliding console from the Limited is an easy swap for the fixed ones. I created a video from swapping mine if you'd like to check it out. The video is not the best quality but maybe it will help someone else who needs more knee space like me.
Would it have killed VW to have added one more switch to control the windows? The current 3 button system is unnecessarily complex. How much more would a 3rd button have added to the cost of the car?
So many TH-cam "reviewers" complain about the window switches... As an owner, I disagree. I seldom, if ever need to roll down the rear windows. On the four button configuration, I can't count the number of times I've accidentally rolled down the rear windows! That's more of an annoyance than having to toggle between front and rear windows. My 2024 ioniq 5 lease is up in 1.5 years. My only requirements for my new EV are, ventilated seats, 360 degree camera, 230 miles of 70 mph highway range, Whichever vehicle gives me those 3 things for the best lease price is the one I will get.
I hear you!! I have an Ioniq 6 with the lease expiring in about the same amount of time, and I am already thinking about what my next EV will be. My biggest problem is that the Ioniq 6 RWD has spoiled me on both range and fast charging. There are a number of little things I don’t like about the I6, but it is absolutely a road trip beast, and I don’t want to go backwards from that in my next EV! It's a good EV. Was my fourth choice when looking to buy my 3rd EV. One feature I really like is the binnacle mounted on the steering column.
What are you calling a binnacle? The screen?
Yeah I believe that’s what he’s referring to
@@TheIoniqGuy I’ve just never seen the word before. Looked it up and it says it was a housing for a compass and lamp on a boat. So wanted to make sure
@@MrTekniqs "Binnacle: The cluster of instruments and switches mounted in a circular casing on or near the steering column."
@@Yanquetino agh I didn’t find that definition. Where are you from? I wonder if it’s because I’m in the US.
The TH-camr obsession with the 2 window switches is mad.
They are actually useful to stop accidental lowering of the rear windows, which happens a lot.
As to the door sound. Ummm
So, in my mind, Hyundai and the other manufacturers have a year and a half to bring out some more 350+ mile range alternatives. 😊
A Model 3, possibly a model Y by then.

The Pro S isn't the top trim, the Pro S Plus is
There's no mention of a Pro S Plus in the current online configurator
@@TheIoniqGuy They haven't manufactured them yet, but they are technically in the official lineup. So this car shouldn't really be evaluated as if it's the top trim. Features like an aerial view camera and better sound system come with the Plus.
@@vulpixelfulthere is no S plus in canada so not sure what you mean? The S has the Harmon kardon sound system and the 360 aerial option eas deleted due to part shortage in the S trim
@@samjam6989 Oh, he's in Canada. That makes sense. I have the Pro S AWD but I'm in the US. I don't have the Harmon Kardon sound system, so that must not be offered on that trim in the US.
@@vulpixelful yep S trim is top trim in Canada so it has massage seat, ventilated front seat and heared back seat, 3 zone AC, illuminated front and rear badge, optional heat pump, heated front windshield that melts ice like rear.
