I am with you on reducing my To do puzzle pile I have about 280 cardboard puzzles and 150 wooden ones in my to do pile. To be very honest , once you start puzzling you get addicted to it and hoarding puzzles badly. Once you enter the wooden puzzle world the addiction will get worse. They are beautiful and amazing to put together. The smell when you open a box of wooden puzzles to the whimsies to the wonderful variety is intoxicating. Do let me know when you start the wooden puzzle journey.
Okay, so I just looked around the room and I didn't count, I just estimated.. I think I have a problem. It should be something around 350-400.. But I started to write down my Puzzling Goals for 2024, I might do a video for them.
I have 82 puzzles ranging from 500 pieces to 60,000. Total piece count is over 216K. My speed if I'm lucky is 1k per month, so I'll be good for the next 18 to 20 years. I received my last puzzle this afternoon. I too have the resolution of no more until I complete some. I figure for every 1000 pieces I solve, I can buy 500 more or not.
That's a good way to look at it. Complete a certain amount of pieces and then you can buy more. I might just need to set up a similar parameter for myself because honestly, I don't know how long I can go without adding a new puzzle to the pile. 😁
I enjoyed your video. I have close to 100 puzzles on my to do list. Puzzle pieces counts ranging from 300, 500, 750, 1000, and one 2000 pieces puzzles. Many different brands, , white mountain, bits and pieces, Ravensburger, De bored, Hardi Grant, Gibsons, Schmidt, Eurographics, Happily, Magnolia, Galison and some other brands.
Nice goals! I understand abt needing to make room. I said I only will keep puzzles in the one bookcase in the living room, which ended up spilling into the 2nd one. Ok, but that's it. Then I started stacking them on top, keep in mind these are 7 foot bookshelves. Then the small bookshelf in my bedroom and then the other bookshelf in my bedroom. I want to count them but I'm kind of afraid what that total might be....... I did finish 72 puzzles in 2023 so if I can keep that up, I might have a shot in at least dropping the amt a bit!!!! LOL
I know that feeling - trying to rationalize why you need another puzzle and telling yourself that there's plenty of room at home for another one. Great job at completing 72 puzzles. I'm sure you'll get through your to do pile quickly.
I'm doing Grafika Inside the House 3000pc. I set aside 1 Full day (New Years Day) and 4 evenings to get it done. I think I will get it done tonight (day 3). It goes fast. Incredible puzzle. Loving it!! Last time I calculated I had about 10 years worth of puzzles in my stash - so my goal is same as you. Calling it my "Puzzle Hoarding Detox".
I like that phrase "Puzzle Hoarding Detox". I think I need to use it. I saw your Grafika on Instagram. Do like the quality of the pieces? Hopefully the are a snug fit. I just love the image.
I've got 51 puzzles in my to-do pile! It's not a lot since I only started buying puzzles this year, to practice speed puzzling ! Also, I've done an Eeboo puzzle once and got unlucky. 25% of the pieces were still stuck together, even though it was new. It was still a fun puzzle to do, though very frustrating at the beginning...
243 in my to-do pile! Which is about 200 too many! I totally agree, it's so hard to see a net decrease in the to-do stash given the temptations out in puzzle-land, but it's definitely my main puzzling goal for 2024 to make some progress in this department. Best wishes for your 2024 puzzle goals!
I have 230 in my to do pile, and I do about 10 puzzles a month. Storage does become the controlling element. Once the storage is full ( as it always is this time of year, due to holiday gifts), I stop adding. But I rarely have this to do stash below 200 and I am ok with that. Good luck with all your goals. They are all great goals.
That’s a lot of puzzles! I only really started doing jigsaws this year, and I have 19 on my to-do pile 😊 I’ve got one set of shelves and I’m determined to not let my collection spill over…
Happy New Year to you. 235. That’s quite a few. I started 2023 with 2 puzzles and ended with 92 in my to do pile. I completed 143 by new year, then sold or gifted them. I’ve kept 7 of them, with the hope I may do them again, but with 92 left to do it won’t be anytime soon. You have some fun brands there to try. I’ve done a couple of Wasgij and while they are fun I have to be in the right frame of mind for them. I really liked Cloudberries. Eeboo are shiny but are nice images. Looking forward to more videos. Oh. I’m really enjoying the Puzzle Olympics. I have challenged myself to do a bigger piece count. Only 1500 but I’ve never done that many before.
Happy New Year! You're right about Wasgij, you definitely need to be in the right frame of mind considering you don't have an image to work with. I'm glad you're enjoying the Puzzle Olympics. I like how it nudges puzzlers to try something new, especially different piece counts. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my! I don’t feel so bad now. My to do pile at last count was 133 and I think I’ve bought maybe 20 or so since then. I’m so glad you tried the Wasgij puzzle and liked it. They are so fun. I am really into the magnolia brand puzzles right now, so I think your going to like the one you have there, I like that image but haven’t seen that one on puzzles Canada where I mostly shop. Cloudberries is another brand I love and have most of their puzzles including their small back puzzles. Happy puzzling and Happy New Year!
Many puzzlers tell me they love Magnolia so I'll need to get one done soon. The Autumn Kiss I did purchase at Puzzles Canada but they must have sold out. Happy New Year to you too.
I only have 2 puzzles in my to do pile as puzzling is not popular in Greece so it's very difficult to find puzzles that I like. I have done the Agatha Christie puzzle from Lawrence King and absolutely enjoyed every minute. No false fits, lovely clear almost velvety pieces. However I have heard not so good reviews and believe it's due to where the particular puzzle is produced. Mine is the Netherlands. I can also highly recommend Pointblank and Flame Tree puzzles. These are not exclusive puzzle companies but stationers.
😊 I'm glad to see you you've got a Villagers puzzle! It looks to be a promising new puzzle company and supports women artists in Canada. 🎉 You've got some interesting puzzle brands I've never heard of -- but I'm basically new to the puzzle world. I really enjoy how you are always challenging yourself. It really encourages other puzzlers to do the same. Thank you again for sharing your puzzling journey! 😉 Happy Puzzling!
i’ve got a couple dozen in my to-do pile that i haven’t completed yet. out of those is my first gradient puzzle, and also my first eurographics (and first of a couple lesser known brands). i also have a 1500 piece puzzle i want to do in the spring (which would be my second one), and i’d like to complete my first 2000 piece puzzle.
Wasgij puzzles are so much fun! (but so challenging!) they become addictive lol! I have Cloudberries on my to do pile and I still have not tried them. I fell in love with the Reverie advent calendar so now I want to try a full size Reverie. My to do pile is...too big, but i also want to start focusing on Ravensburger 500's for WJPC.
I do love Reverie. I haven't tried their advent calendar but the 1000 piece puzzle I completed was great quality. I've signed up for WJPC also. I'm just hoping to complete the puzzle in the 1.5 hours. That for me would be am achievement.
I no longer refer to the picture so i get much more out of each puzzle. I was going through them way too quickly! I don't like using the picture now as it's so much more satisfying without. I just finished a 1500 Grafika...nice puzzle but it was missing 10 pieces and had 5 extras! Puzzles Canada is helping me to resolve this and we are waiting to hear what Grafika will do... I also did a 1500 Pieces and Peace, which was very nice. I try to keep only 10 to 15 on my to-do shelves. Especially new ones, not thrifted, in case there are quality/piece problems as it is easier to get it resolved sooner rather than 2 years after purchasing!
I have about 98 puzzles of which 12 are in my "to do" pile. I had many more puzzles last year but made the decision to donate a number of them to thrift shops that support worthy causes. I got them out of the house before I could have second thoughts and the pain of giving them up passed quickly. I don't have nice shelves like you do for my puzzles but maybe I can get some.
Now, that is a manageable number. Donating is the right thing to do but I understand how hard it can be to determine which ones should go. I will need to make that decision soon.
I have been wanting to try the Wasgij puzzles as well but have not because of your same reasoning. I will have to try one now :). I have worked Laurence King and enjoyed the brand, Eeboo they are enjoyable but on the glossy side. Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year to you and your family, wishing you the best in 2024 🙂
I hope you enjoy your eeBoo puzzles! I have that same one in my to-do list. I have found that sometimes the pieces can not be in the best shape, they seem to get banged up pretty easily. But the pictures are such a delight that I generally don't mind. I've also not generally had too much of a problem with false fits in their puzzles, likely because of how clear and distinct the image is so it is usually rare that I'm even trying a piece in the wrong spot to begin with.
One of my goals is also to reduce my To Do pile, instead of a number, I'm going by the space I want it to occupy. I have 1 large, 1 medium, and 1 small shelf. I want to empty my medium shelf of unsolved puzzles. My current unsolved puzzle count is 251, with 65 currently on my medium shelf. I like to use my small shell to display the books I plan to do that month, it can fit a lot more, but I have 12 puzzles on it right now.
I know you don't want to buy anymore puzzles, Sandra, but the next puzzle for you should be the WASGIJ? Original 31, Safari Surprise. Originals, unlike the other concepts such as Mystery, are more challenging. This particular one has a TOTALLY different finished image...REALLY unexpected !! AND it has yet another thing that you need to discover after completing it that they don't tell you!
my To Do pile is around 60 puzzles, but I only have one bookcase and that one is overflowing - so the rest is stashed in the bathroom closet and some stuff is just left piling up on the floor - sad :( Need more puzzle time or more shelves :)
Happy New Year! At some point in early 2023, I counted over 100 puzzles in my todo pile and decided I needed to do something about that. As it stands today, I am down to 16 but a few of them are very large puzzles (5000+ pieces). I'm hoping to get them all done by the summer except for one, a 33200 pieces giant puzzle which I plan to do last, probably in the fall. Have you tried the Canadian brand PaperBlanks? Their puzzle titled Dharma Dragon is one of my favorites.
We puzzle every year at Christmas. This year we did a 3000pc puzzle. I liked it but for me it was too big. I don’t have a table large enough, so I have to put extra tables in my home and my OCD can’t cope with that for too long 😂😂 IJ is like y in dutch. You don’t pronounce the j apart.
If you want to add a puzzle brand to your list, I would recommend Blue Kazoo. I love the pieces in their puzzles. They have no shine and the puzzle pieces are very sturdy (not easily damaged) and seem to have a black back. I believe that this brand would be very easy to film.
As always a very informative and interesting video. I have many Eeboo puzzles (22) - pros cute images, bright, I got all mine on discount under $6 each - cons - they have false fits so need to watch for that … mostly images are so busy you can tell but I did one with a black background-liberty rainbow - it was a nightmare that I ended up needing to go online to find image of completed puzzle with piece shapes - also they are super shiny so glare can be an issue Lawrence king puzzles - I did world of Charles dickens & the world of Ian rankin - both were a bit crumbly, one had waxy feel, no false fits … one was manufactured in china- paper backing the other in the Netherlands - cardboard back -waxy feel so if you have a preference may depend where it was made I have done one wasjig puzzle & I really loved it. It was tricky with no image but awesome colours and cartoony is my favourite. I have a large to do pile but haven’t counted… maybe that will be my puzzle goal for this year! Keep up the great work on the videos!
We have been wanting to do a Cloudberry puzzle for the longest time! I think this will be the year to get that done. We currently have 123 in our to do pile. We did 30 puzzles in 2023 so at this rate we have about 4 year's worth of puzzles, lol
I know I have 337 puzzles in my to do pile because I have a spreadsheet too. I am also thinking about donating or selling some of the puzzles in my pile since it's unlikely I will ever do them. I think Wasgij would be pronounced 'Vas-gay' and could mean 'what's going on' or 'what's happening' in Dutch.
My pile is probably around your number but not nicely organized. They’re spread out everywhere. It’s on the to do lose to go through all the areas I have them stashed and get rid of some.
Quite a few brands there that you are going to try. Hopefully you will succeed with the goals you have set yourself. I've done Cloudberries and they are very good puzzles, the chances of a false fit is small and the pieces are matte. I've done a couple of Grafika and don't recall any issues with them. Mudpuppy is an offshoot of Galison so same type of puzzle. I've never bothered to set any puzzling goals, I just do the puzzles. I have 60 plus puzzles in my to do list and I get through about 180 to 240 puzzles a year. As a retired person I have plenty of time at my disposal. Virtually all the puzzles I do get passed to the local community. Looking forward to doing the BOTYP later this month. Waiting to find out what jigsaw has been chosen.
👍🏻👍🏻

Now you have my interest peaked with the wooden puzzles. Will need to try that puzzle soon. Thanks for sharing.
Agree on the wooden puzzles. I have a bunch of videos of wooden puzzles in my channel. Check them out!
Okay, so I just looked around the room and I didn't count, I just estimated.. I think I have a problem.
It should be something around 350-400..
But I started to write down my Puzzling Goals for 2024, I might do a video for them.
Yes, once you count the puzzles, it gets very real. Look foward to seeing your video.
Love doing the cloudberries poolside puzzle a lot of fun i enjoy it can’t wait see you you put this puzzle together
Thank you. Will need to get that done soon.
Happy New Year. Well... I have 221 puzzles in my to do pile. So im all with you - i have to reduce my puzzle collection this year 😁😁

Eboo is one of my favourite brands. A little shiny bit I always find the images spectacular
Thanks for the feedback.
I like Eeboo puzzles nice quality and no false fits but the images are shiny but that doesn't bother me. Happy New Year !
That's good to know. The shiny pieces don't bother me too much either. Happy New Year to you too.
Nice goals! I understand abt needing to make room. I said I only will keep puzzles in the one bookcase in the living room, which ended up spilling into the 2nd one. Ok, but that's it. @thepuzzlingcanadian Yes I like the fit. Maybe a bit too snug for me. Will be a chore to take it apart.
You're right. That is frustrating especially coming from a new puzzle.

Thank you. Hope you're able to resist the temptation in puzzleland. This will be a difficult task for me too.
I have a Wasgij puzzle on my shelf that has been taunting me. I have picked it up and put it down a few times. Maybe 2024 will be its year!😂
Now’s the perfect time to give it a try.
I have 230 in my to do pile, and I do about 10 puzzles a month. Storage does become the controlling element. Thank you. It looks like we are in the same boat for the to do pile but I don't think I complete 10 puzzles a month. That's fantastic progress.
That’s a lot of puzzles! I only really started doing jigsaws this year, and I have 19 on my to-do pile 😊 I’ve got one set of shelves and I’m determined to not let my collection spill over…
Yes, it definitely is a lot of puzzles. Many were collected during the pandemic frenzy.
I’m sure my collection will continue to grow, buying puzzles is just so much fun 😊
I only have 6 uncompleted puzzles. I must be doing something wrong!

I Love Wasgij Puzzle
I'm starting to like them also.

I am not familiar with Pointblank and Flame Tree puzzles. I will need to look them up and put them on my list. Thanks for sharing.
😊 I'm glad to see you you've got a Villagers puzzle! It looks to be a promising new puzzle company and supports women artists in Canada. 🎉
You've got some interesting puzzle brands I've never heard of -- but I'm basically new to the puzzle world.
I really enjoy how you are always challenging yourself. It really encourages other puzzlers to do the same.
Thank you again for sharing your puzzling journey! 😉
Happy Puzzling!
Thank you. Villagers Puzzles does look like a promising new puzzle company and I'm very big on supporting Canadian (local) brands or companies.
i’ve got a couple dozen in my to-do pile that i haven’t completed yet. out of those is my first gradient puzzle, and also my first eurographics (and first of a couple lesser known brands).
i also have a 1500 piece puzzle i want to do in the spring (which would be my second one), and i’d like to complete my first 2000 piece puzzle.
Sounds like you have some great puzzles in your to do pile. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! 10 pieces missing in a new puzzle is quite a bit. Hope it get resolved soon.
Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year to you and your family, wishing you the best in 2024 🙂
Thank you and Happy New Year to you too.
Hopefully I won't get too many false fits with the Eeboo. Those can be frustrating. Thanks for the feedback.
That is a very interesting way to tackling the problem of the to do pile. I like it!
Oh eboo is in my list also- we have a lot of the same ones on our to-do!!
I love the art of Wasgij and also picked one up to try this year!!
I too enjoyed the art work. Will need to look at more.
I believe more puzzling time is the fun solution to that problem. Thanks for sharing.
I have done a few Cloudberries puzzles and Poolsides has been my favourite so far! Can't wait to see what you think about it :)
Thanks for the feedback. I really need to work on this one soon.
Wow! You did a fantastic job of reducing your pile. I haven't tried Paperblanks yet but it is on my list. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I didn't know that. It can get tricky pronouncing some of these brand names.
If you want to add a puzzle brand to your list, I would recommend Blue Kazoo. I love the pieces in their puzzles. They have no shine and the puzzle pieces are very sturdy (not easily damaged) and seem to have a black back. I believe that this brand would be very easy to film.
Thank you for the recommendation. I will add it to my list.
As always a very informative and interesting video.
I have many Eeboo puzzles (22) - pros cute images, bright, I got all mine on discount under $6 each - cons - they have false fits so need to watch for that … mostly images are so busy you can tell but I did one with a black background-liberty rainbow - it was a nightmare that I ended up needing to go online to find image of completed puzzle with piece shapes - also they are super shiny so glare can be an issue
Lawrence king puzzles - I did world of Charles dickens & the world of Ian rankin - both were a bit crumbly, one had waxy feel, no false fits … one was manufactured in china- paper backing the other in the Netherlands - cardboard back -waxy feel so if you have a preference may depend where it was made
I have done one wasjig puzzle & I really loved it. It was tricky with no image but awesome colours and cartoony is my favourite.
I have a large to do pile but haven’t counted… maybe that will be my puzzle goal for this year!
Keep up the great work on the videos!
Thank you for the information. The glare I can work but the false fits can be annoying.
We have been wanting to do a Cloudberry puzzle for the longest time! I think this will be the year to get that done. We currently have 123 in our to do pile. We did 30 puzzles in 2023 so at this rate we have about 4 year's worth of puzzles, lol

180 to 240 puzzles a year is very impressive. I've never reached that number.
