After reading some comments (as I always do) I noticed you replied to lots. I appreciate the fact that you reply to your viewers questions. Also I find it very rare to find someone who does product reviews without making it boring, but you are one that succeded. I found the 5-10 vids of yours I watched entertaining even laughing at some parts. So good job and keep makin more great reviews
HA HA I just had a flashback to when I was a kid in South Florida. In the summer we would get bored and put things out on the sidewalk and watch them melt. It got so hot one summer that we went out wearing our flip-flops. Within 10 minutes of being outside they had scorch marks on the bottom of them and then within about 20 minutes they started melting on our feet.
I have had two pocket hoses. The first one was free and had plastic couplings. It worked good one summer, but l left it out during the NE winter and the spigot screw on part snapped off. So l got the brass one this time and l brought it in for the winter. In my experience, any hose will start to have leaking problems when left under pressure for a long period or if left out in extreme temps hot or cold. The benefits of the hose vs a regular garden hose as far as it being lightweight and easy to move around with and roll up neatly, far exceed the negatives in my opinion.
I wish I would have seen these reviews before I bought my pocket hose brass bullet. I have 2 complaints: 1. The package says it is 50 ft but it was only 46 ft and came up a bit short to water plants. 2. After only using it for 10 min per day for 1 week it developed a pin hole leak right in the middle which will eventually become a failure point.
Frustrating! I think zero-g is slightly stronger hose but there're tons of reviewers saying their zero-g burst, many showing photos of it. You have to be extremely careful with all these hoses or be a lucky person. Keep them cool in shade while not used & don't keep it under full pressure too long. Otherwise just buy $120 heavy duty professional rubber hose. Pocket Hose is only expanding hose I know that uses rubber. Toxic reports show over half dozen different toxic chemicals at unacceptable levels from other hoses. Only safe materials are rubber & polyurethane. That excludes the zero-g. Pocket Hose is rubber inside, albeit thin.
A black hose, under pressure, In 108* (42C) temp, lying on hot Gravel. Wouldn't take long for the water inside to reach scalding temp, remember the higher the pressure, the higher the boiling point, so the water temp can exceed normal boiling temp without actually boiling and as we saw demonstrated so well by our wonderful host in this video when he picked up the LP record after less than an hour in the heat that record wasn't 42* it was much hotter. Further, the hotter it gets the greater the pressure in the hose, given that the hose is already under pressure it understandable that the Safe Working Pressure of the hose would be exceeded in such a test. Besides the whole point of the expanding hose is that it, (in a fashion) folds itself up, to make it easy to put away, so why leave it out in the sun anyway? Anyway great video, it has however got me wondering has anyone had any other issues with the hose?
I think the packaging said something about storing it indoors when not in use. My experience with hoses of this type relate more to the number of expand/contract cycles, and that they aren't very durable. They last a couple of years and then start to leak.
Living in Florida, I've burned thru a number of these type of hoses. Normally it lives in a ceramic pot in the shade most of the day. This latest incarnation lasted the shortest amount of time, approximately 2 weeks. While in use it burst - not unlike the manor that yours did. Fortunately BB&B has an extremely liberal return policy. Hold on to the plastic package and the receipt and they will exchange it. Note: it's unlikely you will ever actually get the hose back into the package, but at least you tried.
Heh yeah there is no way to get the hose back in the packaging. I was starting to think THIS was the Pocket Hose that would work. I don't think an hour in the heat is an unfair test, nor should destroy a hose.
Freakin' great idea! Can't wait for a hot, sunny day to go melt one of my old albums! For the first time ever, I'm gonna pick thru my albums to find one I DON'T want to listen to :D
Hello James! Thanks for the extras in this video. Very nice and interesting. I do wonder why/how the record got soft at first then harden bk up. That heat polished off that candle, the soap held up pretty well thought that would have melted quickly as the candle did. Thanks again for the As Seen On TV videos.
I appreciate the review. My pocket hose has lasted 4 years with no issues so far but I don't leave it outside after I am done with it. I do have a metal hose as well that is always connected to the back of the house that is used for but for those quick clean up jobs, the pocket hose works great for me. So Far..... I am curious how the pocket hose would hold up if it were stored in a work trailer or a truck job box as those get pretty hot inside them as well.
Thanks for the update! They probably shouldn't have made it black... dark hoses get way hotter (like hot enough to kill plants)! Maybe there will be a white or metal version in the future... Pocket Hose All Brass!?
this is the funniest video you've done. sorry about the hose but you going thru the house to find things to melt had me laughing. seriously tho. how the heck can you stand that kind of heat??? i would definitely melt.
Ok. So I purchased the Silver Bullet pocket hose. Unfortunately, you really can not leave it out in the sun. Both of mine sprouted multiple holes. Not happy but, as I just learned, the instructions say to keep it inside. I left it out all winter and it worked fine up until a couple of days ago when the temperature soared to 95 degrees. Both hoses were on the ground outside and both failed.
Thanks for the reviews. I always enjoy them and they have saved me time and money. Have you ever or will you ever do a review on night vision driving glasses?
Based upon what happened to my Dad's fave vinyl back in the 1960's when he left it on the dash of the truck I'm pretty sure that vinyl will melt....now back to the show to see if I'm right.
Thanks dude! U da bomb. If you want to get the manufacturer's attention, do at least two of them hoses together to make sure you don't have an unusually faulty one. Still, a real cool test, making me wary to buy...
Thanks dude! You saved me from buying it. Was thinking about getting a couple! U da bomb. If you want to get the manufacturer's attention, do at least two of them hoses together to make sure you don't have an unusually faulty one. Still, a real cool test, making me wary to buy...
Heh thanks GP. If it weren't for the sketchy history of virtually every Pocket Hose, I may consider the "faulty" option. These hoses just aren't meant for rigorous use. Check out the Metal Garden Hose or Hercules Hose for something far more durable.
The metal hoses will likely rust in the heat. Heat causes oxidation even in some stainless steels, which is why stainless BBQs end up rusting. I don't know if 110/140 in direct sun would be enough, but it could be.
I live in LA. The valley where it does get cooking in the Summer months. Bought my first Bullet Hose and within 2 weeks it leaked. They begrudgingly replaced it with another which did the same leaking after 3 weeks. I didn't want to detach/reattach after every use so I took my chances w the hot weather thinking maybe I'll get at least a few months out of it. The point of switching to the lightweight expandable hose was to have less of a twisted nuisance the heavy duty hose created in the small back space. It works well in that regard but for me, having to detach and reattach every single day to water a couple plants seems to be a bigger nuisance. If you don't mind that then I guess this hose can last longer...but leaving it outside exposed to heat (without water pressure) destroys it quickly.
from someone like myself being from Las Vegas. i remember back in 1977 one of the old casinos on the strip the frontier .cook 2 eggs and a piece of ham on the sidewalk that was so cool to see
What I found out this past spring that all the Pocket Hoses were ruined over the winter if they were left outside, they just don't collapse anymore they become straight and flaccid. My mother had to buy a new hose, this time she paid for a better hose with a good guarantee.
The instructions do state to drain them and bring them inside after every use, so leaving them outside for an entire winter sounds like disaster for this type of hose.
I agree the metal hose is the best, you can leave it in the sun and under pressure. The only problem low water pressure unless you have that nozzle that only sprays hard jet streams, no gentle spraying.
Yes, that's exactly how you are supposed to properly care for these hoses. A lot of people like to leave their hoses outside, even under pressure, so I wanted to see if this hose could be used in that manner. I definitely got my answer.
I know this is old, but I think the packaging should say that you have to keep it indoors when not in use. Water heating up probably caused the retractable material to expand. Along with the constant water pressure, it burst at the side. I would have probably done ok with the water running, but you would be wasting a lot of water finding out.
This hose is an epic fail even when it's not in the direct sun and that much heat. I live by Savannah GA and, like most people, I leave my hose hooked up to the faucet all the time. Obviously I don't leave the water on but it sits out. It's in the shade most of the day. I've had it maybe a year... maybe.... and not much to water until spring. Even last fall it was leaking at both ends and not just a tiny trickle. I put a different attachment on the end but the leak isn't even at that attachment... it's where the hose attaches to the yellow end of the hose. My attachment works great. The hose also has a big leak at the faucet. Its garbage.
Oh my gosh you read the perfectly good album I just looked on eBay it’s sold for $90 if it’s not damaged but you destroyed it why that’s an antiques item
What a waste of a perfectly good twisted sister LP. Cant even find that around where I live I have been looking for rock and roll and blue LPs for years
I wonder how it would fare being in the sun not under pressure, or with water flowing through it. I'd imagine it would be a different story. Do any hoses tolerate freezing with water inside them? And then having a car run over them while they are frozen? And hold up well in intense summer UV? That's the hose I want.
So, I wouldn't say that's a failure. It failed, But who leaves a pressurized black hose outside? I'd love to see what happens if you keep water running thru the hose.
I don't think anything has a chance is that heat. However, is the dog's name Bailey or Daisy? Also, you can make a neat chip bowl out of those LP's. Just put over a jar and let it melt. Mold into a swirly bowl. I have one and I love it.

We get weeds in the Spring, but they mostly die off in the Summer. I did a plain rock yard because I hate doing yard work and it's a lot to keep up a yard here. I've started to think that I need to do more back there!
Pressure is increasing with the temperature. The pressure will increase dramatically. A rubber hose will expand to accomodate this. I guess this hose is stretched to its limit from the start and has no more flex to allow pressure build up.

I’ve always loved the concept of these hoses but they are very high maintenance. After use they need to be drained and stored inside out of any weather.
Why is that a good test? They ask you to store inside....of course the hose will degrade. I was hoping you could hang on to the hose and see how it lasted in regular use and not 108 degrees.
That's Wobble Wag Giggle, which she still plays with. I just saw them at Bed Bath & Beyond the other day, so you should be able to find it. Here's my review of that: th-cam.com/video/jrWuV2Pna0Q/w-d-xo.html
Yeah these hoses fail with heat, They literally melt inside. They need a hose that can handle heat .Use better quality plastic inside. Mostly they fail where they have been joined together on the inside under the sheathing.
To be fair to the pocket hose I don't think it was meant to be left in the heat under pressure I would have like to see if it still would have worked if it was not pressurized and left out there for like a month
I had been asked repeatedly how it would handle being left outside, so this was the answer. The instructions do state to drain it and store it inside, but most people are used to leaving their hoses outside.
Not to make any negative assumptions about your dogs' behaviors, but can we be certain neither of them got out to the hose nozzle and accidentally bit it, causing the tear? I couldn't tell if they were both kept in the fence--or are just so well behaved that would be unthinkable. 😉
That's a good question. I leave the metal hoses out there with them on purpose to test durability. I didn't leave the dogs out there when I was testing this hose, and I always brought it inside when not in use. I'm confident they weren't a factor.
After reading some comments (as I always do) I noticed you replied to lots. I appreciate the fact that you reply to your viewers questions. You should do more videos like this one, seeing what can stand heat
Thank you - it's always the "does it work later" issue that's difficult for me to resolve, and you've done it. I wanted it to work too, but man...
HA HA I just had a flashback to when I was a kid in South Florida. In the summer we would get bored and put things out on the sidewalk and watch them melt. I love your build up to the hose failing, when the whole time I could see it in the reflection off your sun glasses. lol great video though.

THOSE EXPANDING HOSES EXPANDING UNTIL THEY EXPLODE
Throw the hot record over an upside down bowl then you have a cool bowl to throw your keys & pocket stuff in😊
That's an awesome idea. I will try it!

WOW!! Not even 1 hour, that's some extreme heat. Those other items didn't stand a chance either. Thanks for the review😃
Hey Christy! Yeah it's been a "bit" warm out here lately.

It's not that bad, lower the humidity the better.
mine did the same thing after using it for a week I think it was the water pressure it was almost in the same spot

I was hoping you attempted to bake cookies or an egg outside lol. That would have been cool to see too.
An entire episode on cooking outside.....without an oven would be interesting!
Rob check out illiminate it's a car channel but they did cook inside the car using the sun.
Rob when I was a kid in South Florida we would cook eggs on the sidewalk in the summer and dare each other to eat one.

Crappy hoses. Would never buy. The Metal Garden Hose is the best!!
Yeah so far my Metal Garden Hose (and Hercules Hose) has held up well in the heat and sun.
Freakin' Reviews hi, I was wondering if you could review the "auto cool" its an older asotv product.
Oh I remember that one. That's really old! I don't think I've seen that in stores for years. If I see it, I'll consider grabbing it.
I agree the metal hose is the best, you can leave it in the sun and under pressure. The only problem low water pressure unless you have that nozzle that only sprays hard jet streams, no gentle spraying.
This hand burn reminded me of the hot hands boiling water test
I live in Vegas too and all the pocket hoses do that if you leave them out. I use mine, then drain it and store it in the house.

This hose is an epic fail even when it's not in the direct sun and that much heat. I live by Savannah GA and, like most people, I leave my hose hooked up to the faucet all the time. Oh my gosh you read the perfectly good album I just looked on eBay it’s sold for $90 if it’s not damaged but you destroyed it why that’s an antiques item
What a waste of a perfectly good twisted sister LP. Cant even find that around where I live I have been looking for rock and roll and blue LPs for years
Just wondering did the hose break where you drove your car over it? Seems reasonable that it would break or be damaged under those circumstances.
I wonder how it would fare being in the sun not under pressure, or with water flowing through it. I'd imagine it would be a different story. There are collapsible hoses that have different color sheaths as well, perhaps a bright green one (for example) wouldn't absorb as much heat as that black one.
I have two goldens! My 2 year old is Bailey and my 12 year old is Daisy. I am definitely going to make a chip bowl out of that LP today. I wish I had known about that before making this video!
As for the records in the heat, when I was a teen we had a slumber party. We slept outside and sat the records on the windowsill. In the morning, they were the shape of the windowsill. oops
Pretty dumb test as nowhere it states it can handle that ... it’s clearly a hose for average light use not to be pressurized all day in a baking sun...
It was pressurized for less than an hour in 100 degree weather. Garbage hose
The dog is beautiful, Baily rocks
Noooo AL Borlan failed us. He was the promised one.
He said back yard, but we all know it's the test lab.
I had bought five of these things two for my parents three for my house I have never left it under pressure in the Sun but I've used mine for about two or three years now I have no problems. Does the directions say not to leave it in the sun? Because if they don't they certainly should LOL
its a 130 degrees in my country and cheap hoses from the super market last years in the sun
I bought the same hose for $5 at a local store that sells Amazon returned products for $5 and less. Well, it turned out to have a hole in it.
The happy pooch adds a nice touch :) Makes up for life in an otherwise seemingly barren place.
Good gosh man, you apparently live in a desert town! I'm from the mideast where even your backyard of concrete and gravel would be filled with weeds the first summer without a gallon of Roundup! Hmmm, maybe I'm a little jealous - lol! Well, not when I look at that thermometer. Except that we have humidity. Once its over 80-85 degrees, all you have to do is THINK to break a sweat :x(
Hey da Bob. I just got back from two trips to the Midwest and it's so different there. I'm not a humid 85 is any better than our dry 110! We get weeds in the Spring, but they mostly die off in the Summer. I did a plain rock yard because I hate doing yard work and it's a lot to keep up a yard here. I've started to think that I need to do more back there!
How can you live in Vegas with such an immense heat? I wouldn't wanna live in such a place.
I guess after 20+ years, you get used to it!
really cool science
The record was awesome, and now it really is twisted. 😉
I would turn like that too if I was out in the sun in that temperature for an hour, personally.
Pressure is increasing with the temperature. The pressure will increase dramatically. A rubber hose will expand to accomodate this. I guess this hose is stretched to its limit from the start and has no more flex to allow pressure build up.
108°F? Where? Phoenix? Love the video I'm in SW NM.
Had two pocket hoses burst already. They are garbage.
I would say that you left it under pressure so the comparison of "use" for longer than an hour outside doesn't apply as using tends to relieve pressure every so often.
Do people really keep hoses under pressure when not using them?
I’ve always loved the concept of these hoses but they are very high maintenance. After use they need to be drained and stored inside out of any weather.
Man, 108 degrees! I wouldn't sweat, I would just leak!
Lets see what else we could melt Beavis! lol
Why is that a good test? They ask you to store inside....of course the hose will degrade. I was hoping you could hang on to the hose and see how it lasted in regular use and not 108 degrees.
lol Twisted Sister never sounded so good
yeah extreme heat like that nothing will last, it exploded
Why is it that no one is complaining about the record?!?!
"Bullet Proof" material fails home strength water pressure... Pthhh!
What dog toy is that? Our dog would love it.
That's Wobble Wag Giggle, which she still plays with. I just saw them at Bed Bath & Beyond the other day, so you should be able to find it. Here's my review of that: th-cam.com/video/jrWuV2Pna0Q/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, I appreciate it
what bravo Luca said. all expanding hoses are crap. I made a better hose from clear plastic tubing and hose ends one male one female.
Maybe Bailey chomped on it? That’s to bad, I would have purchased one tomorrow. Glad I did not get hosed! 😆
You should test out advertised grass
Haha, he says he water plants in the backyard, more like rocks.
Yeah these hoses fail with heat, They literally melt inside. They need a hose that can handle heat .Use better quality plastic inside. Mostly they fail where they have been joined together on the inside under the sheathing.
Do 2 things. 1. Stop boiling garden hoses. 2. Move away from AZ and never go back.
just seen an infomarcial for a product called (master trap) it a mosquito light in a metal case the light doesn't look that bright though.
Thanks for the info. I'll look into that one.
Thanks That helped!!
I've gone though 7 of these hoses. I finally gave up
Not a fast learner huh? 😂
I had that hose too and it busted what a peace a junk!
If you stretch the pocket hose even a little bit and it will fail that way too. I won’t buy these again unless they are super cheap
Record snobs and dee snider will be down voting I'm sure.
Heh yeah. I actually still have a nice vinyl collection, so I sacrificed one for the sake of this video.
I, too, get flimsy after 15 minutes but harden again after a couple hours.
Cliff D Even under constant pressure?
i dont only watch your vídeos because of the review i like watching Bailey too beautiful dog
I bet somebody would have paid you good money for that Twisted Sister album 😢
to be fair, they're from Canada, so they're most likely not built for heat
All those fake "oh no's" lol
I have 4 hoses, 3 have failed within one year, The surely dont work in Arizona, would not buy them again.
fun
mine did that in 80 degree heat without pressure!
Ouch!
I like your dog
Might I suggest changing your site name to: Freakin' Reviews featuring Bailey and Daisy"?
UR NOT FUNNY
a51mj12 And you're not wanted here.
Damn! That's hot! Thanks bra!
noone should leave the water on all day in any hose to be fair to the pocket hose
As bad as leaving $100 pvc China figures in hot environments. Does it say made in China?
