Good message Alan. Take joy in the fact their are a few of us who do enjoy being kind to people. I have noticed I take joy in the little things as long as they require a spark of imagination or creativity no matter what it is. I love the videos where you show little trucks or lorries and vehicles moving along on a single grove or track. It looks great. I enjoyed presents where I got to work with my parents as a team.

+Robert Masterman Just a quick question Bod you will have seen the problem with my camera and with the next footage I uploaded from the camera was similar ,,,, can I ask what camera you are using ,,,,, I was thinking I might get a half decent price around now ,,,,, Many thanks ,,,,
For the last three years I've been using a Panasonix X920 Alan, without doubt, the best camera I've ever owned in over 50 years....there is a newer model, but nowhere near as good as this one!...Regards...Bob
+Robert Masterman Thanks for that Bob ,,,, and is that easy to get files loaded into the P.C,,, in other words you don't need special programs to re-configure the files,,,
The material is recorded onto a small SD Card which is loaded directly into your computer, however you will need an editing program that can deal with the HD files the size that this camera produces. Bob
wow very cool vid Alan...amazing how you got her in the shed. I've never seen a ladder used like this before very ingenious. Daves engine is stunning. p.s Daves kit In the bedroom must of been a few tons in weight. ..I know working in the construction industry that a house must take one ton per square meter. All the best Jim.....
+hovermotion A ton pre square meter ,,,,,, O not heard that building reg before,,,, I was gob smacked but 3 mts x 2 ,,,, 6 ton,,,, he's probably got a ton and a half to spare,,, I hope the builder used first grade timber even though it was the small bedroom and I hope the woodworm don't move in ,,,,
I too as a Christian am dismayed by the world in which we live. It is so different compared to the 1960s which were my formative years as I was 18 in 1965. Wonderful gift from an obviously wonderful person. Interesting to see what an engineer you are as you moved the lathe to your shop. Merry Christmas Alan and my the coming new year be kind to you and your family. All the best, Rob
+Rob McCrain Hi there Rob Thanks for stopping by,,, yes if people get offended by the customs and traditions of the home country then they should go and live in a country where they wont be offended ,,,, why should the home country bend over backwards and change its own traditions etc,,, trouble is the good people of this world quiet meek and mild don' t kick up a fuss,,,,, as well as been tong tied by P.C and they end up been rode over rough-shod ,,, sorry im on the verge of a rant,,,,, ( O no don;t rant and speak your mind ,,,, ) Yes can you believe Dave's generosity I fell very humbled that he choose to leave his message for me,,,, and yes it was a challenge working out how to get the lathe into the shed but I really enjoyed it ,,,, And the same to you Rob I hope you and you family have a great Christmas,, and many thanks for you help and efforts over the last year,,, Farlandis must be an inspiration to thousands ,,,, best regards ,,,,,, Alan
+Rob McCrain Yes exactly ,,,, here's something else to think about ,,,,, if you, your neighbour, your Senator, any president, or prime minister, or Lord or lady of any country,,, and of any religion, creed or colour ,,, was to open a zoo, would that person put the antelope in the same enclosure as the lions,,, would any one opening a zoo put the put birds or pray in with sparrows and finches,,,, would anyone opening a zoo ever put the foxes in with rabbits and sheep,,,,,,,, NO,,,,, not one person in their right mind would expect animals that are fundamentally different to co-exist together.
+Rob McCrain Just an observation that in nature if there is a fundamental difference between creatures they rarely co-exist happily together ,,, just like oil and water don't mix,,,
You said everything so well. There are still a few great people in this world of greed and selfishness. I hope get lots of use out of your new lathe. Merry Christmas to you and yours.Scott

Alan the best part was the bleeping which worked lol, but that lathe looks awesome and cheap as well, not many people around like that anymore cheers Robert
+csxmad Hi There Robert thanks for dropping by ,,, Ya don't know whats up with the camera not looking good,,, but I was gob-smacked at The offer of the lathe,,, so very kind of him ,,,,
+TONY NORTH EASTERN Hi there Tony many thanks for dropping by and your kind words ,,, glad there has been something of interest ,,,, and the same to you and the family have a great holiday ,,,, regards ,,,, Alan
I agree entirely with your thoughts on Christmas and the way the world is heading. There seems to be more people interested spreading evil than ever before.I have never really understood religion because I don't know which one is the right one to follow, not that I am interested one Iota. Anyway Its nice to see the kindness shown by Dave and that very nice lathe. You did a brilliant one man job getting it in your shed and I am sure with the skills you have shown in your videos it will not be long before you will be up to Dave's standard at model making.(Beautiful workmanship). Thanks for sharing that was very interesting and a pleasure to watch.
+Nodrog Awson Hi there ,,,, many thanks for stopping by,,,, Ya religion could have a lot to answer for ,,,, I think religions started with a good set of messages and standards ,,,, but it was soon realized you could control huge populations very cheaply by turning the messages into books of rules and laws,,, and put the FEAR of God in everyone ,,, threaten them with everlasting fire and damnation and you have almost total control of the people,,, and sadly thats how I see that religions have been used ,,,,, hi-jacking and corrupting the true message and instilling fear simply to keep people im line,,,, Yes what wonderful kindness and generosity from Dave I was humbled,,, glad you found it interesting ,,,, Have a good holiday ,,,,regards Alan
What a wonderful present - can see why you were so overcome. What happened to the aluminium ingots you made - are you now going to turn a flywheel? Happy festive season, all the best Richard
+Richard Tarr Hi Richard many thanks for dropping by ,,,, Yes can you believe Daves generosity ,,, Ya the furnace is up and running obviously so now I have to practice making some patterns ,,,, then I can hopefully cast the parts I need,,, just been too busy to get any real time ,,,, thanks for the seasons greetings ,,, and the same to you and your family ,,,,,, regards ,,,,, Alan
Fantastic video, the number of people who share your thoughts and Dave's actions are on the increase. I hope the Western world consciousness is changing and see things as they really are. Thanks again it is refreshing to hear and see a true human being. By the way I look forward to seeing the pyramid building video, keep hold of the rollers !! Happy Solstice.
+Hands on Hi there ,,,,, How nice of you to stop by and comment ,,,, yes what a heart warming gesture of kindness from a complete stranger,,,,, a lesson to us all,,,,, I think you could be right people are starting to see things as they really are ,,,, but I feel those in touch with nature and simple beliefs that harm no one are so kind meek and mild at heart and respectful of other peoples views have lost their voice or had it strangled out of them. Yes nothing wrong with ancient technology working in harmony with the forces of the universe ,,, but I doubt I will be able to get planning permission for a pyramid ,, and even though I need a bigger shed a pyramid might restrict standing room round the edge but I had considered building a shed right over and around the existing one,,, that would be quite a project to document ,,, or perhaps I should risk instead documenting awakening views. We will see but many thanks for your comments ,,, wishing you and the family a great holiday as each day gets longer ,,,, best regards ,,, Alan Reply ·
Hi Alan - what a great video, plus a nice surprise at the end. I've had a few special days this year, and the Saturday you popped over was one of them. I'm sure you know I'm not just saying that. As you say, the world appears to be in a mess, but is it? Because the media only concentrate on the bad half of people, it appears to be so. However there are still the other half of good, decent people, like you, Dave and myself for instance, who we rarely get to see. Now I've never been a professional turner, just played about occasionally, but if you would like, and it's convenient of course, I will happily pop over sometime and try to give you a few tips....just show you how to get started. We can of course learn by watching, but in my experience, a few moments actually being shown by someone is much better than a month or two of practise watching others. Happy Christmas mate Kind Regards Malc.
+MalcOfLincoln Hi there Malc Yes I too enjoyed meeting up with you,,,, Your more than likely right the media etc manipulate everything and there are plenty of kind people thank goodness,,,, thanks for the offer of a few tips,,,, we will have to see how I get on,,,, the other Saturday Mark at Aim's let me spend an hour with him on there lathe and that helped cement the basics after watching hours of videos on line,,,,, I need to get some stock bar etc,,,, Aims have plenty of scrap bits but its mainly stainless steel,,,, and I need to decide on a project,,,,,, You have a good Christmas as well ,,,, all the best ,,,, Alan
Great. All you need now is practise. I'd suggest for your first lathe project you choose something very simple. Like a V pulley for example. Just a bit of shaft and 2 bearings, then turn a pulley held on with a grub screw. I don't have to tell you this, but your first project will then be successful, and build confidence.
+MalcOfLincoln Yes indeed nice approach,,,, Iv faced some bar down ,,, then took it down from ten to 7 mm aiming for point 5 increments,,, probably over cautious but hit the mark (within a tad) ,,,, as you say its just about gaining confidence ,,,,
Great video and good will message, I love your very ingenious techniques for moving the lathe! levers fulcrums and the like..wonderful stuff Have a peaceful Christmas Alan, cheers, Dave ps whilst I'm here, I was searching through your old vids about you using the roots of weeds to make model trees for n gauge, but I can't find it, can you rem, ember which one please? thanks
+Dave Harriman Hi there Dave thanks for dropping by ,,,, Yes you could say stone age technology saving a 21 century day,,,, and such wonderful kindness from Dave,,,,,,,,,, and the same to you and the family have a good holiday .... th-cam.com/video/Ua_n8bRzjmM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/BBVw4u52iL8/w-d-xo.html 10.15 sort clip
Great thoughts Alan that I fully agree with. I see in todays news, the country of Brunei has just banned Christmas as it can offend Muslims! Give me the British point of view where anyone can practice whatever religion they are convinced by. It was good to see you still have a video record of your rather special N gauge layout with its very individual original thoughts on propulsion. It was also good to hear of your really special Christmas presents, and boy did you get a great one this year thanks to that very special TH-cam viewer. It is heart warming to hear the story. Congratulations on how you got it removed and relocated in your shed. That was certainly worth making a video of!
+ADMIRALSCORNER Hi there Mike ,,,, I was half jesting when I said how long before Christmas is banned,,, I honestly don't know what the world is coming to ,,,, (here are 2 comments made by Laurie An Asian lady managed to ban selling Poppies at our workplace because it offended her. For St Georges day I wanted to display my Grandfather's VC and MM medals (and the others) but was told I couldn't because someone said it promoted War. Can you believe it? Yes what a heart warming gesture of kindness from a complete stranger,,,,, a lesson to us all,,,,, it was a challenge to get her moved but I enjoyed it ,,, ancient technology coming to the rescue...
+Alan Plumb Thank Goodness for that example of the how excellent people relationships could be. So glad your year ended well. And congratulations on your inventive mind coming up trumps once again regarding moving that lathe!
hi alan yes their are still a lot of good people around, you don't hear much about them as they are not brash loud nasty indviduals.have a nice time over the Christmas period and don't forget the track cleaning truck or tool that I mentioned beforeno excuses now you have that wonderful gift from our friend in Accringtonloved your video as well great patience getting the lathe into your shedbye and cheersmick
+mrweaverman1 Hi There Mick thanks for dropping by ,,,,, Yes your right gentle kind people keep them selves to them selves ,,,, and the don't make good news stories ,,,,, Yes indeed I haven't forgot,,, things like that sort of stop stored away and I keep thinking of different approaches ,,,, In fact One stands out at the moment that could be worth trying,,,, and as you say no excuse now,,,, and yes what a humbling gift from a total stranger,,,, im very lucky ,,, probably about 10 or 12 hours to get her into the shed but I enjoyed the challenge as daft as it may seem ,,,, Cheers as well have a good Christmas ,,,,,,, Alan
Interesting watching you finagle your way into the shop and up onto the bench. I guess I would have called for help to just lift the lathe into place at the last, but then where is the challenge in that? Kinda like insisting on putting the snowblower into the back of my pickup by myself. Geometry really does work after all doesn't it? Pivots, fulcrums, ramps, levers, etc and we can get the job done. So let's go build a pyramid, right? And they say it can't be done!
+The Shade Tree Fix-it Man Hi there George ,,,, Yes I saw you with the snow blower ,,,, thought I better take the slowly slowly approach ,,, but nothing wrong with stone age technology ,,, but what a heart warming gesture of kindness from a complete stranger,,,,, a lesson to us all,,,,, wishing you and the family a great holiday ,,,, best regards ,,, Alan
Without meaning to upset anyone: I must admit Alan that I have no religious beliefs at all. But I am still a person with high moral values and ethics, as I know you know. I suppose if anything I would be called a Humanist (Google it) but I have not joined them. I do not want religion shoved in my face, and I find Xmas time quite difficult and stressful in some ways, as I find religion a very uncomfortable concept - I prefer pure science. I prefer to say Merry Xmas (using the X) and Happy Holidays. I'm not trying to offend you or anyone else with your views but we all must respect each others views. So because of that I try to accommodate Xmas time, as I know it means something to others. But I do draw the line at other religions being offended by the one already established in our country. I guess they would say why can't they have theirs? And I would say why can't I have none. This is where it all comes down to points of view. Having said that I do think, as you say, people should live in a country that has their beliefs, and not try to change ours, and vice versa of course. My Grandfather fought in the Wars for our way of life, and won several medals, as did many people. I wonder what they would think now? An Asian lady managed to ban selling Poppies at our workplace because it offended her. I must admit not selling them offended me! For St Georges day I wanted to display my Grandfather's VC and MM medals (and the others) but was told I couldn't because someone said it promoted War. Can you believe it? So we all have our views, and we all get offended. Personally sometimes I'd rather be a hermit lol.
+Calvertfilm What a smashing message ,,,, and a huge eye opener, I think im totally with you on your first and second paragraphs, I only mention the dropping of the nativity plays as an example of how the British way of life and its traditions are been eroded,,,, yes to Christmas been stressful as well I find it hard to join in to do so is verging on been hypocritical and you make a good point about even using the word Christmas ,,,, but using the word Christmas doesn't mean you actively celebrating it,,,, If I believed in creation,,, and you was going to Arizona fossil hunting , I think I could still wish you a good fossil hunting trip/holiday ,,,, surely that is respecting your point of view and opinions ,,,, And yes everyone should have a right to their own opinions etc and agree where you draw the line the very point Iwas trying to make but ineptly ,,,, and as for your final paragraph im gob smack and could easily launch into a rant ,,,, An Asian lady managed to ban selling Poppies at our workplace because it offended her. its a good job im hearing it first hand from you otherwise I would have a job believing it,,, because that's so So disgusting how in "The consciousness of the universe's " name was that allowed to happen ,,,, Your granddad won the V.C ,,,,, and you can't display it,,, hell's bells I don't know which is more disgusting ,,,,, no its all a disgrace,,,, that is sickening Laurie whether any of them lads who went to war won a medal or not they all should be respected equally them lads suffered hell and died to keep Britain British and their country awarded them a medal,,, ,,,,, Medals are still awarded so why are you promoting war ????? if you display a hero's medal's.... im shocked ,,,,,
+Alan Plumb Thanks Alan. You made your comments very well I thought in the video. One good thing about my Grandad's medals - the real ones are now on display at the Imperial War Museum as part of the Ashcroft Collection on the 4th floor. At least there the people visiting will respect them. Cheers mate. Laurie.
+Calvertfilm That's nice ,,,, im still shocked,,,and angry ,,,, people just don't realize all these tiny things and aspects are going on ,,,, chip chip chip chipping away at British way of life,,,,
What a mammoth task to undertake alone Alan, well done sir! The lathe has gone to a good home where it will be well used.

+Alan Plumb Alan, here is something to think about, my country, America, was founded by Christians. It says In God We Trust on our money. Cheers.
+Rob McCrain Yes exactly ,,,, here's something else to think about ,,,,, if you, your neighbour, your Senator, any president, or prime minister, or Lord or lady of any country,,, and of any religion, creed or colour ,,,
was to open a zoo, would that person put the antelope in the same enclosure as the lions,,, would any one opening a zoo put the put birds or pray in with sparrows and finches,,,, would anyone opening a zoo ever put the foxes in with rabbits and sheep,,,,,,,, NO,,,,, not one person in their right mind would expect animals that are fundamentally different to co-exist together.
+Alan Plumb I get what you mean I think. Are you taking about the radical terrorists emanating from the middle east?
+Rob McCrain Just an observation that in nature if there is a fundamental difference between creatures they rarely co-exist happily together ,,, just like oil and water don't mix,,,
A lovely thought at Christmas.Nice to see you , have a nice Christmas Alan.
+David Colclough Hi there Dave thanks for stopping by,,,, yes indeed a lovely thought ,,,, and you too have a smashing Christmas ,,,,,, regards Alan
You said everything so well. There are still a few great people in this world of greed and selfishness. I hope get lots of use out of your new lathe. Merry Christmas to you and yours.Scott
+Scott Downey Hi there Scott,,,, many thanks for dropping by ,,, Yes what a kind and generous offer ,,, guess what and where I will be Christmas morning ,,,, ,,,, in my shed playing like a big kid,,,, and the same to you and the family ,,, have a great holiday,,,, best regards ,,, Alan
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Alan the best part was the bleeping which worked lol, but that lathe looks awesome and cheap as well,
not many people around like that anymore cheers Robert
+csxmad Hi There Robert thanks for dropping by ,,, Ya don't know whats up with the camera not looking good,,, but I was gob-smacked at The offer of the lathe,,, so very kind of him ,,,,
looks like a good bit of kit!
hope you have fun with it.
+andyg3 I certainly will .... I know what im doing Christmas day
merry Christmas allen ive enjoyed watching all your videos through out the year. all the best for the new year. regards tony
+Nodrog Awson Hi there ,,,, many thanks for stopping by,,,, Ya religion could have a lot to answer for ,,,, I think religions started with a good set of messages and standards ,,,, but it was soon realized you could control huge populations very cheaply by turning the messages into books of rules and laws,,, and put the FEAR of God in everyone ,,, threaten them with everlasting fire and damnation and you have almost total control of the people,,, and sadly thats how I see that religions have been used ,,,,, hi-jacking and corrupting the true message and instilling fear simply to keep people im line,,,,
Yes what wonderful kindness and generosity from Dave I was humbled,,, glad you found it interesting ,,,, Have a good holiday ,,,,regards Alan
Yes nothing wrong with ancient technology working in harmony with the forces of the universe ,,, but I doubt I will be able to get planning permission for a pyramid ,, and even though I need a bigger shed a pyramid might restrict
standing room round the edge but I had considered building a shed right over and around the existing one,,, that would be quite a project to document ,,, or perhaps I should risk instead documenting awakening views.
We will see but many thanks for your comments ,,, wishing you and the family a great holiday as each day gets longer ,,,, best regards ,,, Alan

Happy Christmas mate
Kind Regards
Malc.
+MalcOfLincoln Yes indeed nice approach,,,, Iv faced some bar down ,,, then took it down from ten to 7 mm aiming for point 5 increments,,, probably over cautious but hit the mark (within a tad) ,,,, as you say its just about gaining confidence ,,,,
Great video and good will message, I love your very ingenious techniques for moving the lathe! levers fulcrums and the like..wonderful stuff
Have a peaceful Christmas Alan, cheers, Dave
ps whilst I'm here, I was searching through your old vids about you using the roots of weeds to make model trees for n gauge, but I can't find it, can you rem, ember which one please? thanks
+Dave Harriman Hi there Dave thanks for dropping by ,,,, Yes you could say stone age technology saving a 21 century day,,,, and such wonderful kindness from Dave,,,,,,,,,, and the same to you and the family have a good holiday ....

+Calvertfilm What a smashing message ,,,, and a huge eye opener, I think im totally with you on your first and second paragraphs, I only mention the dropping of the nativity plays as an example of how the British way of life and its traditions are been eroded,,,, yes to Christmas been stressful as well I find it hard to join in to do so is verging on been hypocritical and you make a good point about even using the word Christmas ,,,, but using the word Christmas doesn't mean you actively celebrating it,,,, If I believed in creation,,, and you was going to Arizona fossil hunting , I think I could still wish you a good fossil hunting trip/holiday ,,,, surely that is respecting your point of view and opinions ,,,,
And yes everyone should have a right to their own opinions etc and agree where you draw the line the very point Iwas trying to make but ineptly ,,,,
and as for your final paragraph im gob smack and could easily launch into a rant ,,,, An Asian lady managed to ban selling Poppies at our workplace because it offended her. its a good job im hearing it first hand from you otherwise I would have a job believing it,,, because that's so So disgusting how in "The consciousness of the universe's " name was that allowed to happen ,,,, Your granddad won the V.C ,,,,, and you can't display it,,, hell's bells I don't know which is more disgusting ,,,,, no its all a disgrace,,,, that is sickening Laurie whether any of them lads who went to war won a medal or not they all should be respected equally them lads suffered hell and died to keep Britain British and their country awarded them a medal,,, ,,,,, Medals are still awarded so why are you promoting war ????? if you display a hero's medal's.... im shocked ,,,,,
+Alan Plumb Thanks Alan.
