Im a Vet. I am glad he made a stand and told the truth about how Vets are treated after serving. 73% are homeless today Walking on the streets on a thin line. Fortunate for me after 5 years homeless I got off the streets from Mather program in Northern California.....but loss all my friends...who have found ways to ignore me and some think I am dead. But I am still here by Grace of God.....and got some news friends too. Yeah it is a problem in this country and has been for many years. Great reactions!!!
Thank you for your service, but where did you get that 73% number from? Statistics on the issue are spotty and vary widely but are typically stated between 10 to 40%. Way too high and should be easy to remedy with the money thrown at it, but government money always seems to disappear before actually getting to the problem.
I call bullsh**! 73% of vets are not homeless! That's such a ridiculous statement. I might buy 7.3%, but even that is a stretch. But, to your point, if even 0.73% of vets are homeless, that's 0.73% too many. By the way, I'm a Navy Vietnam vet.
This song is my favorite off the Sports album. He has done a great service to vets. My son is a disabled vet. Another great song that honors military heroes if Frank Marino Stories of a Hero off thec1982 Juggernaut album. Guitar work that will blow you away. Check it out! Please!
As a Navy Vet, I appreciate this song. I saw him live back in his prime in the 80s and was a great concert. Always enjoyed his music. Thank you for reacting.
@@MrJd0508 I saw him at Charlotte Coliseum, I believe. I was stationed at Myrtle Beach AFB at the time. ty for serving, Brother! I had some cousins in the Navy. Lost one of my mom's side. He was washed overboard at sea. and have great uncles and My dad was a Marine!
First, I want to say that you did a really good reaction here. Second, I want to say that if you really want to give the people what they want, you should review. Give the people what they want by the Kinks.
This song is appreciated, our Vets deserve all the tribute they get. I lost my husband to PTSD and all Vets need the deep love we can express. Without them we wouldn't have our freedom. Thanks for your reactions. Love you both and your family.🫶🎶🔥
I'm 68, lost a fiancé in Vietnam, plus two good friends.🙏🙏🙏 And was engaged to vet, who lived with three others...they all had some degree of trauma (PTSD). I volunteered at the Long Beach VA, with Vietnam vets. I have an uncle, lifer in service, died from Agent Orange. Those vets have had it rough...if they still called it "SHELL SHOCK" They might've received the help they needed!!!!😵😵😵😵
And the different guitar solos during the song sounds or imitates a desperate or sad CRYING from those people that suffer those war consequences. Incredible arrangements and song. "seek and you will find....and do everything in love"--The Holy Bible
As a Gulf War vet I appreciate what he’s saying It’s became another forgotten war along with the Korean War. My dad and uncle and three cousins were all Vietnam vets and they had it worse and were looked down on. Personally I’m proud of all those brothers and sisters for their sacrifices
This song means a lot to Huey Lewis. He always sings it with passion. There are live versions available with intros. Such a powerful song with a strong statement.
Huey Lewis is one interesting cat. He skipped second grade. Scored a perfect 800 on the math portion of his SAT, was all-state (New Jersey) in baseball and started university at Cornell. But before doing that he stowed away on a plane to Europe and hitchhiked across it with almost no money at all. To earn money he busked with his harmonica and singing blues songs. He was an engineering student at Cornell but left to be in a band after his junior year. He worked numerous odd jobs while playing in local bands until he hit the big time. That took 12 years to happen.
This song, telling the story of many of our vets, doesn't get the recognition it deserves!!! Even though he's singing about our Vietnam vets, it still rings true for our vets who've been through multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Thank you so much for bringing more attention to this song!
When this came out I absolutely loved it for the honor given to our Vietnam Veterans. Now that I've been through my own wars and struggle with PTSD and other physical issues, it has an even deeper meaning. Whenever I listen to this song, it resonates in my bones.
This was definitely a big departure from their upbeat song style, but I really think it did a soulful and honest tribute to Nam vets and what they went thru. So glad you guys picked up on that.
After hearing this one, I think you will appreciate Billy Joel's "Goodnight Saigon," written/sung from the POV of a Vietnam soldier in the thick of war. Hope you check out the video! (It's a live version.) He has always honored veterans whenever he performs this song live by having a group of veterans (local to whatever city he's performing in) to sing the chorus onstage. When he did the song for a post-9/11 concert, he had NYC first responders.
I was a young girl during the Vietnam war and I remember seeing how you all were treated and I remember it was heartbreaking to me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service ✌️❤️✌️❤️✌️❤️
And the different guitar solos during the song sounds or imitates a desperate or sad CRYING from those people that suffer those war consequences. Incredible arrangements and song. Thank you for your service! "seek and you will find....and do everything in love"--The Holy Bible
I’m a Vet also, just after Vietnam but most of my mentors in the Army were in Nam. Thank you for reacting to this song. I said it once on your movie channel and will now say it here. If you want to get a little bit more of an understanding of what your family members went through, please watch “The Last Full Measure,” also “We Were Soldiers,” is just a great movie about Nam.
And the different guitar solos during the song sounds or imitates a desperate or sad CRYING from those people that suffer those war consequences. Incredible arrangements and song. "seek and you will find....and do everything in love"--The Holy Bible
I was with the guard out of upstate NY, many of our officers I met in the early 80s were vets, three different wars worth, some of the best people I ever met and had a chance to talk with. I miss them all, I was stuck here in the states sending many a person over seas to different places especially when 91 hit. To many sent over to a crummy desert. I may be in my sixties now but would love to help in Ukraine.
My dad was a vet from Vietnam and he only really listened to country but he really liked this song. I’m sure much of that was the message within it. Me and a friend went to see them in the mid 80s and I can say they are easily one of my top three bands to have been lucky enough to have seen live ever. They put on a fantastic show back then!
As a long time Huey Lewis and the News fan, this has always been one of my favorites. What a great rock and roll tune it is. But even bigger than that, I really appreciate the fact that you guys got the message here that Huey was trying to convey. I went in the military in 1978, just after the last troops had been removed from Viet Nam in 1975. I worked with some Viet Nam veterans and I learned from the experience that the general populace of our country really has no clue about the negative impacts on these veterans. Especially the current culture. They were mistreated and unappreciated and most never recognized for their contributions. Very sad. Thank you for your family’s service to our country. Keep on doing what you’re doing, enjoying the music, and appreciating the message when it’s of good value. 👍👏
First of all, this album was one of the first 3 cassettes I got with my first boombox. It has truly stood the test of time. I wore this one out (which meant the tape got tangled so badly in the player that it had to be cut out). It's been years since I heard the song. I never realized until this reaction, that it was about Vietnam. Thank you for reacting to all these memories and thank you to all the vets who did not get that coming home.
Thank you so much, Jay and Amber, for "getting it". Many of us have wounded warriors in at least one generation of our families, even if we aren't Vets ourselves. Knowing how difficult it can be for the civilian population to separate the war from the warrior, people and governments might be more careful about not just the treatment and care of those who serve and their families, but about the foreign policy decisions they make and/or support.
"Jacob's Ladder" is a 1986 song written by Bruce Hornsby and his brother John Hornsby and recorded by Huey Lewis and the News. It became a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987, the band's third. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob%27s_Ladder_(Huey_Lewis_and_the_News_song)
Nailed it. We forget how much Vietnam and Vietnam War Vets were such big issue in the 1980s. Huey Lewis wasn't the only one writing songs on the subject. But, yeah, this is just an incredible and under-rated song. It is a great one!
Great song with a powerful message. Speaking of Vietnam, Charle Daniels did a song, "Still in Saigon" on the same topic. That would be a good one to review and hear your reactions to.
Such a departure for Huey Lewis. I love all their music but love it when artists switch it up. Such a vitally important song! This tribute to our Vietnam vets, along with Billy Joel’s Goodnight Saigon must be heard!
This deep cut song is an awesome tribute to our enlisted men and women who served with pride and were mistreated. Thank you, deeply, to those who served, you are this nation’s true heroes.
Amber, you said that the US does not do very well to its Vets. i have to say it is night and day compared to my home country of Canada. Our vets get almost no assistance from our government, and the compensation they receive is laughable. It is only since the mental health crisis came to light that we have even BEGUN TO assist those who have served. As a man whose ancestors have served in both World Wars and the Korean War, I am angered by this beyond belief.
My uncles were all in Vietnam, my great grandfather was in WW2.. this song brings back a lot of memories as a teenager, we went on a road trip from Texas to Florida and we listened to this cassette ALL the way there, never got tired of it….we had a blast!!….this song was actually written by someone who was in Vietnam, and ask Huey Lewis to demo the song, he paid Huey 20 bucks, and Huey did, he was a young man, then later recorded it for their album “Sports”. Sports was a MASSIVE selling album that spawned SEVERAL hit songs, the album was 1, and I remember it well, I was 13, and man we jammed to this album, it was a big massive album, it has SIX top hit songs, out of 9, that days a lot. ….AND….I still own my vinyl to this day.
Definitely darker lyrics than you normally get from Huey, but still a great melody and one of my favorite songs of theirs. So glad you finally did this one & picked up on the content right away! You both don't miss a thing when it comes to lyrics
Huey lewis and the news are one of those groups that history has let fall into the cracks. They were a staple of music radio back in the day and ive always enjoyed them.
The way this country treats veterans and homeless people in general is absolutely sickening! They're all for sending people, sending children over to fight, but when they return wounded and traumatized, our society is all to happy to turn a blind eye and throw them away without any resources, any help at all.. It's disgusting. I will never be pro war, but I am very pro helping veterans, helping people that are left with nothing after they come back! This has been a problem for so long and I'm very thankful there are people like Huey Lewis, who use their voice to bring awareness, so that these people aren't forgotten!
Thank you so much for your comments and feelings. Our most overlooked group of veterans along with the Korean (Conflict-it was a war folks!) vets. I had the honor to serve with a few of the Vietnam ear guys in the late 70s. SMSgt (Ret), USAF 1977-1999
I've been waiting for this reaction for a long time! Thank you! This is one of my all-time favorites! As a vet, I really appreciate Huey Lewis for doing this song. My other all-time favorite Huey Lewis song is "Is it Me". A song about relationships and break ups. Beautiful and heart-wrenching. To me, one of Huey's best. Please react to this song soon. Thanks!
Huey and company has numerous hits, and they were 80’s winners. This one was about veterans and how they were treated.Huey is an American treasure. And I can just say…thank you Huey Lewis and the News.
❤❤❤ you would have to check out Huey and Gwyneth Paltrow video of them singing "cruisin" a Smokey Robinson cover..they played in the movie "Duet" together...❤❤
I too am a vet. I live far back in the woods, where the noises in my head are fainter. I see my brothers on the street, and I know them by their haunted eyes. Ive faired marginally better, but only because of the remote nature of my soul, even before the Days of Thunder. Those of us that yet survive Southeast Asia, have made our peace or died. But sadly, war is generational, and each must taste the taboo fruit of death by organized violence. The streets resound of the silent parade of shattered souls. "War! What is it good for?" the only answer obvious to the multitude. Yet war eats the souls of those who must stand amidst it's flames year in and year out. I can only bow my head.
Glad you all reacted to that song. It’s very powerful. Now getting back to fun and upbeat stuff, you need to check out Huey Lewis’ “ Hip To Be Square”!
Amber & Jay, here are some other good Huey Lewis & The News songs to react to: "Tell Me A Little Lie", "Back In Time", "Hip To Be Square", "Doing It For My Baby", and "The Only One".
Hey Guys, New subscriber here, love the choice of songs. I remember when it came out. It's wonderful that you are spreading Veteran-love to the world. Keep up the good work!
Great song. My cousin was a wounded Vietnam Vet and he got to read the names at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. on Veterans Day last year. Unfortunately, he passed away a few days after that. Gotta treat our Vets right! Jay & Amber checkout Paul Hardcastle's "19" song. Another song about Vietnam when you have a chance. Thanks.😐
To all our veterans thank you so very very, very much may God bless you and your families! It was really good of Huey Lewis to do this song. Well done, sir well done and great job as always guys.
Another great band from San Francisco. He joins a great group of bands..."Dave Brubeck Quartet", "Green Day", "Grateful Dead", "Journey", "Metallica", "Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company,", "Chris Isaak", "Jefferson Airplane (Starship)", "Creedence Clearwater Revival", "The Doobie Brothers", "Pablo Cruise", "Santana", "Pointer Sisters", "Sly and the Family Stone", "Steve Miller Band", And so many more.
My father-in-law was in Korea and Vietnam went in at 17 came out at 37 and yes that where treated horribly . He was a CW3 he turns 88 tomorrow, I’m so thankful for all that serve then and now God bless your sacrifice for me and all other Americans 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I was 12 in 1984. That was the year I bought my first 3 tapes---all at the same time: Kiss - Lick It Up, Van Halen -1984 and Huey Lewis and the News - Sports. Still listen to those albums to this day 39 years later.
I was 15 in 1984, sports was one of my favorite albums. At 13 I got my first vinyls from a aunt and they were both Kiss albums. Hall and Oates were also big for me. Personally the first concert was Hall and Oates with Til Tuesday opening.
@@ericroth9514 - Wow, that's awesome! I was really getting into MTV the latter half of 1983, then my Dad (Santa) got me Thriller in my stocking and my older brother got Synchronicity. But we were seeing more hard rock stuff like Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger. etc. The next tapes I bought were Def Leppard - Pyromania, Twisted Sister and Night Ranger. My brother had bought Quiet Riot and Bon Jovi so we shared a lot. Later that year I bought Billy Joel - An Innocent Man. 1984 was a freaking great year in music!! I was only scratching the surface with these artists.
@@christopherp.1391 - That's amazing how similar we all are/were. Took me a while to turn on to Hall and Oates, but certainly love them now. I saw H&O live 10 years ago and they still sound amazing--saw Huey too and sounded amazing. That Sports album is incredible. Every freaking song is excellent!
i think i saw Huey & The News (with Tower of Power Horns!) maybe three or four times back in the 80s. always put on a great show. I meant to see him again, but now with him not being able to perform due to his hearing condition, i guess that time has passed. what a great guy, what a great band. i love them forever.
Bought this album and on the first play through this song just made my jaw drop. The message is so strong and really grabbed me even as teenager. This is a song that, even if you have no connection to veteran, will make you feel for them.
there is an mv for this with powerful images from the vietnam war. watch it on your own time and you will get even a better appreciation for the song. huey and the news ruled the airwaves for a few very special years
This was an album that I knew every single word to! I love this one, a lot of his songs are happy and boppy lyrics. This has a great melody and upbeat musically but the lyrics are very profound and deep. So glad that you enjoyed the song. Thanks so much for your reactions!
I was a child when this came out so the whole veteran treatment story didn't come to me until many years later. As a child though, I recorded this song off the radio, I loved the vocals, the pacing, and the progressiveness to the pop structure. After knowing the context this became my favorite Huey Lewis & The News song.
Saw Huey Lewis and The News in Denver in about 87. Cant remember who opened for them, but during the intermission their was a power outage backstage. Huey can out with a couple of the guys and sang a few songs acapla. The old Mcnichols Arena had such perfect acoustics, you could hear them singing clearly anywhere in the building. After a few songs, Huey sat down at the edge of the stage and told stories about life, touring, his family, even told jokes like a stand up comedian. Took questions from all over the audience to help kill time until the problem was fixed. After about 45 minutes, they finally got the show started. Lasted about 2 hours. The tickets I had I won from a local radio station included meet and greet the band. I've been to over 150 concerts in my life. I've been very fortunate to meet about half of the performers I've seen. But ABSOLUTELY HANDS DOWN, Huey Lewis and his band were the most humble and personable people you could imagine. There was nothing "Big Stars" about them. Just a bunch of guys that loved to play music and talk to the fans. CHEERS from Colorado

Muy bueno su canal...Huey Lewis and the news mi banda favorita de toda mi vida..saludos desde 🇺🇾 🇺🇾 🇺🇾
Great song! Thanks for your service, all you vets.
God Bless you both!!! God Bless ALL of our Veterans!!!
I haven’t heard this song in years! Thanks for reacting 😎
Underrated song by them. One of my favorites. Great band
A very touching song memorializing the veterans of Vietnam is "Goodnight Saigon" by Billy Joel.
1 of my all time favorite Lewis & The News songs!!
I am a Navy veteran, but I also graduated in 1989. They have a special place in my heart!❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your comments and feelings. Our most overlooked group of veterans along with the Korean (Conflict-it was a war folks!) vets. I had the honor to serve with a few of the Vietnam ear guys in the late 70s. SMSgt (Ret), USAF 1977-1999
One of their best!!
My favorite from the Sports album! 🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽
Thanks!
One of my favorite Huey Lewis and The News songs!
Huey and company has numerous hits, and they were 80’s winners. This one was about veterans and how they were treated.Huey is an American treasure. And I can just say…thank you Huey Lewis and the News.
All us Vets go man!! Hoo rahh
Saw them in Tulsa in ‘94! Awesome!🤘🔥
I can only bow my head.
great song!
Glad you all reacted to that song. It’s very powerful. Now getting back to fun and upbeat stuff, you need to check out Huey Lewis’ “ Hip To Be Square”!
These guitar riffs have been stuck in my head for 40 years
My favorite Huey Lewis song. As i was once told, " a good song is a good song".
Amber said when the Hero's come back. Thats exactly right. They are my heroes
Love this band love the sports album

Hope Chief is well ❤ happy belated birthday
This is a great song guy's love these video's
I was 12 in 1984. That was the year I bought my first 3 tapes---all at the same time: Kiss - Lick It Up, Van Halen -1984 and Huey Lewis and the News - Sports. Still listen to those albums to this day 39 years later.
That brings back memories. I had all those same tapes, right around that same time, at almost the same age (13 for me).
I was 15 in 1984, sports was one of my favorite albums. At 13 I got my first vinyls from a aunt and they were both Kiss albums. Hall and Oates were also big for me. Personally the first concert was Hall and Oates with Til Tuesday opening.
Kiss was the first album I ever had too, on vinyl. Gene's solo album, got it in 1979.
My favorite Huey Lewis & The News song .. its message is powerful and the music is just incredible. Thanks for doing this one!!
Such a great band. Truly one of a kind.
My favorite song from the News. They were and still are big 49er's fans. Seeing them handing out with Montana, D, Clark was so cool back in the day.
there is an mv for this with powerful images from the vietnam war. watch it on your own time and you will get even a better appreciation for the song. huey and the news ruled the airwaves for a few very special years
Queensryche "Silent Lucidity"
You won't be disappointed!!!
This was an album that I knew every single word to! I love this one, a lot of his songs are happy and boppy lyrics. This has a great melody and upbeat musically but the lyrics are very profound and deep. So glad that you enjoyed the song. Thanks so much for your reactions!
Huey has a sound all his own. Grew up with his music
one of my favorite artists. you should try "Hip to be Square". one of the most upbeat songs out there.
Probably my favorite Huey Lewis and the News song! Radio used to play a bootleg live version of this and it was very moving.
I was a child when this came out so the whole veteran treatment story didn't come to me until many years later. As a child though, I recorded this song off the radio, I loved the vocals, the pacing, and the progressiveness to the pop structure. After knowing the context this became my favorite Huey Lewis & The News song.
My favorite Huey Lewis song
Love Huey Lewis. My wife and I have seen him live so many times. Sadly Huey is going deaf and cannot perform live anymore
I know y'all are gonna get around to it, eventually, but I'm gonna keep suggesting "Bad is Bad". Nasty, bluesy, and downright AWESOME.
Love Huey Lewis and the News!!! Got a random suggestion: Don Henley, All She Wants to Do is Dance😁
A lot of their other songs are for fun. This is well written and powerful. Everyone should hear this one once. A good choice,
For another Vietnam based song try Billy Joel’s Goodnight Saigon.
Thanks for getting to this one. Great tune.
I think Huey is great workout music. His "Sometimes Bad Is Bad" is fun. Have a Walkabout Wednesday!!
My father (who was in his late 40s when it was released) looooooved this album so much - he'd play it non-stop! So for me, this is Dad Rock.
Has the vet from Vietnam I thank you both for acknowledging us...
Bless you both❤
