ActRaiser 2, for me has some of the best graphic style in SNES, only pixel-made, without any kind of chip or render for creating super special effects, no. It just was a hand-made work. Scenaries look awesome and so beautiful, that a correct word.
Currently grinding this game on hard rn, took like 2 hours just to lab out and beat the Ant Cave. My biggest problem with this game isn't the lack of a city sim or other jazz, it is the sluggish controls and the general design philosophy of the game. The sluggish controls make it near impossible to do anything in this game off of reaction. Very few times can you get away with doing certain sections on raw reaction (Mainly some of the easier bosses). This is why the game is so difficult. Each level devolves into memorizing the stage layout and coming up with a flowchart based on that precognition and then executing it to perfection. Since the Ant Cave is made up of 5 sections, it took about 5 times longer to lab out. This doesn't even include the egregious enemy spam that you have to worry about for most of the level. But what bums me out the most, is that this game genuinely had the potential to be something incredible. This game's presentation is absolutely godlike, one of the best on the system alongside Terranigma and Demon's Crest. If the controls weren't ActRaiser 1 movement with ActRaiser 2 mechanics glued onto it, the game would be so much more tolerable. Despite all that, I'm still gonna end up finishing this on hard mode out of sheer obligation (it's the only Quintet game I haven't fully completed yet.) TLDR, I have mad respect for you for powering through this game, Raven.
Update: Finished the game on hard. I still cannot decide which level is the worst, there are so many contenders it is ridiculous. The Ant Cave is honestly piss easy in comparison to stages like Death Field, Ice Palace, and the Tower of Souls.
This game has some of the best, most atmospheric music on the SNES. The slow sadness of the undersea levels. The tragic battle music of Death Field. The throbbing chill of the ice palace and the king's mind. And especially the Tower of Souls, which sounds like God (or the Master) passing judgment on humanity.
This is actually a really good game once you master the controls. It just takes so damn long to do it. I gave it a second chance a few years back after seeing a really good in depth-video about it.
I played it a few months ago and just gave up after the first Mini Boss. The whole thing was just extremely unfair after that, I can’t exactly remember the details anymore, but what I can remember is that both the level design and controls were total garbage
@@topfranluis1 Seems like you just can't play the game and hate it. Opinions are like assholes everyone has one. The level design and graphics were and still are good. This guy plays it with not much issue as can I.

Ha, well here's the sequel to actraiser. A game like we don't make anymore (unfortunately). This game is perfect except for a few significant problems in terms of handling. In any case, an essential of the snes, of the beautiful era. The golden era of video games. When I look back on all those times, and after playing all the greatest games of the 16 bit era, bitterness and sadness overwhelms me. Because I know that it's over and that all these feelings inherent in these games, I won't find them again :'(. Thank you raven for reviving through your let's play a little of this nostalgia which gives me contradictory feelings. At the same time the pleasure of rediscovering these games, and on the other hand this bitterness that I mentioned. I insist, I am completely disgusted that I can no longer enjoy these games.
I never stopped playing and collecting for 8 and 16 bit systems. It gives me joy. I am sorry you have these feelings of a sense of loss. I do understand though. Nothing will ever be the same.
indeed there were ancient times when people were different and thought and saw differently. There was a different culture and different management. No one could have imagined that everything would change so much and become like it is now. People of other times and heroes of forgotten battles, who returned to this world again, who, if not we, will change this false world?
Actraiser 2 is another snes game presented by enix, also this is a RPG... good game. So, do you have more games like Illusion Of Gaia or Secret Of Mana? You're really happy.
I hope we get a remake of this game too. I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I grew up with this game and always enjoyed watching my brother play from beginning to end. Definitely has that classic video game difficulty but it can be beaten once you get the way things handle.
@@thescream1868 that’s a remake of the first game. The crew who made this game got rid of the whole God Mode in the first game which was the town building thing. @@henryreza8291 For those of us who felt like the sim town build aspect of the first game really slowed the pacing of the game down, this sequel was a godsend. Though to be fair, the first game had a Professional Mode, which also removed the sim town aspect, and cut straight to the action. But in the US version it had to be unlocked by beating the game first, while in the Japanese version, it is available right away.
Interresting I just noticed every form on Tanzra share the same shapes, i mean they all have this kind of head on the shoulder, it's funny the developpers keep that details everytime. Also it's funny how the interface of this game is similar to the one used in Illusion of Gaia / Time (and maybe even the full quintet's trilogy but i didn't play the 2 other games), even some sounds are the same. Except unlike Chakan, this games soundtrack won't destroy your ear drums (seriously, the GEMS soundfont ruined the sound on many a Genesis game, while in Japan, that was not an issue as devs there used their own custom sound drivers), and this game is actually fairer, while Chakan had difficulty spikes, sometimes placing the enemy in unfair advantageous positions.
Loved the first game. Tried the second game and the control and the removal of the building aspect turned me away from the game after an hour. Might give it another try later.
Actraiser 2 is for those of us who want the meat of the game, without the extra filler. Actraiser 1's Professional Mode also does the same thing, all stages, no town filler.
But the thing is that the Soy Fortress is not of any use and killing enemies don't bring you any progress apart from just killing them and clearing the levels. There is also unfortunately not that much of a progress on Character side. But graphics are insane. I liked the Sound Design of Actraiser 1 much more!
The town building phases of the first game felt too long and drawn out. You got adrenaline pumping stages, then you are left with a long stretch of building towns, and that adrenaline goes away before the second stage even starts. Actraiser 1 thankfully has a Professional Mode, which only lets you play the action stages, so that adrenaline rush doesn't stop till you finish the game.
@@Bloodreign1 You're in the minority liking that aspect of the game. It reflects in the poor sales of the 2nd version. It's fine to like the high action stuff, but this wasn't that kind of game, until it tanked.
That remake adds tower defense crap, boring as hell as I hate those type of games. The action is still there in the stages, but the town building aspect is already boring enough, without adding dull tower defense into it as well. Thankfully Yuzo Koshiro returned to do the music, as he did in the original 2 Actraiser games. Tower defense games should stay where they belong, as cheap mobile phone games, keep that shit out of my platformers.
@@Bloodreign1 Not only that, but that game is ugly as sin. The texture work in those pre-rendered graphics are horrible to look at. It still shocks me to see people defend that atrocity. Even the parallax scrolling in that game is all wonky. People need glasses...

Being able to attack from a distance makes the game so fking easy..........the first game didnt had that......what a way to ruin the sequel. just to easy.....also..in the first game you couldnt block any attack.
This game is significantly harder than the first because of the protagonist's wonky movement and the fact that pretty much every enemy is faster than he is.
