  • This video is my Giant Day Gecko Care Guide. Giant Day Geckos are one of the most beautiful reptiles you will ever see, and they've become very popular in the reptile hobby. But I can tell you that my Giant Day Gecko, Carl, is one of the most challenging reptiles that I've ever cared for. So aside from the basic care, I wanted to talk about the reality of owning a giant day gecko. If you're thinking about getting a giant day gecko, watch this video, and make sure you're prepared for what you might be getting yourself into. Although, with that being said, I wouldn't trade Carl for the world. I hope you enjoy the video.

They really are. But it's lucky for them that they are, because they're so hard to keep. They need to have something to make up for that.

I use a rectangular Tupperware bowl to catch him. It’s nerve racking every time he gets out.

Awesome video, Carl is very cute! I’ve always strayed away from these guys because I would be more comfortable housing them in something closer to 36” tall or larger glass enclosure. This is way to heavy however 😅

I agree. I wouldn’t go any smaller then that. Bigger is always better.

I am assembling two 36" terrariums to make them 72" high.
I am going to make 4 green geckos in it.

Make it a little more comfy for Carl! Put some more bamboo and some more plants! I think he would love it. Just make sure he has places to absorb the ubv and keep the rest bushy! Keep up the videos man! Love them! 👍🏼

When people say they can’t hold them I can do it because I can care for them very well and I tame them

That’s cool. I wish I could get that from mine. The best I’ve gotten is if he stays calm while I change his food. 😜

Thanks. I’ve had Carl for almost 2 years. I’ve put water in the second spot in his feeding ledge but I’ve never seen him drink from it, but I’m not surprised if some actually do.

Can you like just take it to your hand and put him like a chest or somewhere else? And are they like humanfriendly?

Unfortunately that would be no to both of those. There are a few videos out there of people who have tame and handleable phelsuma grandis, but those are very rare exceptions. It’s just the nature of the species that they are very hard to tame, very hard to handle, and difficult to move from one enclosure to another.
