    Today we are learning how to count people in Irish, which as you may know, is significantly different from counting 1-10 in general. I also teach you how to talk a little more in detail about your family!
    Phonetics:
    Amháin: A-wine
    Beirt: Berch
    Triúr: True-er
    Ceathrar: Cah-rir
    Cúigear: coo-ig-er
    Seisear: sheh-sure
    Seachtar: Shak-tir
    Ochtar: awk-tir
    Naoinúr: nee-noor
    Deichniúr: Ji-h-noor
    Aon duine dhéag: ayn dinya yeg
    Dáréag: da-reg
    Trí dhuine dhéag: tree ginya yeg
    Ceithre dhuine dhéag: cer-ra ginya yeg
    Bain sult as 💚😊

    Dia duit agus go raibh maith agat 🙂. I am still a new subscriber and I find your video so helpful. Have you made a video on the verb "is"? I am still a bit confused with how to use it. Thank you so much for your passionate work.

    You should spread the word of getting a film crew together to make Irish-language films or sing your own songs in Irish.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jed Hawkins there is actually a lot of Irish music , check out the band seo linn there are also a lot of Irish adaptations of English songs. Also Irish language short films just even TH-cam them. www.TG4.ie - an Irish channel dedicated completely to Irish media. A lot of us are out there making efforts to spread the Irish language and keep it alive. An Dream Dearg is an Irish language Act campaign in the North of Ireland trying to have the Irish language recognised and taught in all schools to students who want to learn it. Check out conradh na gaeilge on Instagram, they do loads for the Irish language. Irish teenagers also spend summers in Gaeltachts - Irish speaking areas, where they are only allowed to speak Irish. People are making efforts to keep the Irish language alive it’s just not something you hear about too often, you have to go looking for it

    Question. One brother is “dearthair Amain” but two brothers is Beirt dearthaireacha”. So the order changes when it’s more the one person?

    • @gergerger53
      @gergerger53 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a class last week and I raised this specific point with the teacher. Yes, when it's "one" it goes after the noun, but otherwise it's always before like in English. So, it would be literally like, "I have sister one and two brothers" or "I have brother one and two sisters." If amháin is involved, it goes after the noun.

    Amháin doesnt just apply to people when meaning one. Mar shampla - ceann amháin, leabhar amháin srl.

    Hi Molly, I would like to ask you whether it is possible to say "Tá beirt deartháireacha agam", because I was taught that "D" in this case doesn't trigger seimhiú, so I'm kind of confused right now. :D

    • @tessa7831
      @tessa7831 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Lalealyn Thank you for the detailed explanation! :) I've actually noticed that the language in TG4 programmes differ from one programme to another and I was rather confused about it, because I thought that in all TG4 programmes they used standard Irish, since TG4 is a learning resource used by many Irish learners.
