    I live in a desert and I find that hosing down the bike is very important to rinse down all the dust that has accumulated in spots you cannot clean. Sometimes small creaks even dissapear after a good wash.

    What I really loved was the fact that he had to go to Neil to get a dirty bike! You can imagine Doddys all lined up, clean and ready to go. Not a dirty bike in sight to make this film!

    That's one hell of a lot of wet stuff to perform a dry wash :-)

  • @Pienimusta
    @Pienimusta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Old socks tend to have texture close enough to micro fiber. Wet sock, add some bike cleaner (e.g. Muc Off pink wash) and you get most dust off without too badly scratching the paint.

    I keep a spray bottle with water handy. I usually just wipe off the forks, shock, and dropper after each ride, then clean the drivetrain every 100-200 miles.

    When I clean my bike its in between a "dry" and "wet" cleaning. I use a spray bottle with a solution of water and a motorcycle cleaning soap, diluted pretty far down. I rinse it with a pump-up insecticide sprayer filled with just water. It uses WAY less water than a hose or pressure washer. It doesnt have the power to blast dirt into the seals, but it cleans just as good. I use less than a gallon and get it cleaned just as good as a full on hose cleaning.

      In older videos (2018) they were sponsered by WD-40 and used all their specialty bike products, they are cheaper.
      Check out this GMBN Tech video "How & Where To Use Greasem Lubricant & Threadlock On Your Mountain Bike..."

    By the time dry washing by wiping down with a microfiber clothes the frame, wheels, tyres, spokes, suspension / forks! U might as well wet wash the bike, don't think the dry wash save much time nor be througher!

    the best trick to clean dust is to use a 1" dry painting brush for those hard to reach sections and a 2" for larger surfaces. a clean microfiber rag is also a must.

    Doddy just found this. Not sure about the tash but you are a star. Just got a gravel bike and this advice is perfect! Invested in some Morgan Blue carbon frame cleaner. To say I've not done a deep water clean the bike looks very clean. This stuff gets the grime off and leaves a protective film. Top man!

A little tip - use a small paint brush or a detailing brush to brush the dirt out of all the crevices that a microfiber towel can’t reach

    Top Tip.. Hoover the loose dust off first, saves cloth getting clogged up. Keep one of those brush fittings special to avoid getting in trouble.

  • @Mr.P.Griffith
    @Mr.P.Griffith 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a detailer by trade, regardless of how you wash your bike, Do Not rub a dry cloth against a dirty bike. You're effectively sanding it. Some surfaces like the rim can handle a literal dusting but all painted surfaces will suffer and get scratched by the lightest amount of dirt being rubbed into it. Use what ever product you want to to lube the cloth, as long as it's not dry.
    Also if you use any kind of cleaner, a conditioner must follow. That silicone spray or any type of wax, or my favorite for both "dry" cleaning and "waxing" is My ceramic Shine and shield from Glidecoat.

    Great video - really useful - thank you. However, I wax my chain and wonder how best to keep the chain/rear-cassette clean (when it's dry weather). I generally re-wax the chain every 3-5 weeks (just boiling water and MS Speedwax). But, in-between, I often wonder what is the best way to clean it after a dusty ride. Thanks again.

    I've been trying to figure this out everywhere and could use a professional opinion.
    I have Suntour Aion forks with their own axle (Q-loc or whatever it's called).
    I'm not sure I have it tight enough, because when I lean heavily, I hear some sort of rubbing noises, but I am unsure where they come from.
    Should I just tighten the axle even more? Or might it come from somewhere else?

    #askgmbntech I have a 2020 Giant Trance 3 it came specked with a Sram eagle SX 1x12 drivetrain. I’ve been getting creaking from the drivetrain with a small amount of dirt accumulation. What I believe is happening is the grit is causing the jockey wheels on the derailleur to rack back and forth under load. My question is can I simply swap the Shimano free hub for XD free hub to upgrade the derailleur and at what level of Sram eagle do they start using bearings in the jockey wheels?

    I would not use the antibacterial stuff on my grips and saddle, unless I was absolutely sure, that it does not react with the rubber material. Also, using this for Covid-protection is really unnecessary, unless you let other people touch your bike on a regular basis. Just ride, keep proper care of your bike and avoid bigger groups/keep your distance.

    For the dry dusty spells, I will dry wipe the drivetrain and fork seals and re apply lube as described here with cloths designated for these areas.
    I won’t wipe down the frame, wheels or lower legs etc, as all this will do is encourage fine scratches from dragging grit around and also it will make your microfibres incredibly filthy after just one use. Waterless cleaners are yet another product to buy which isn’t needed. If you’ve used such a product you’ll still need water to clean your now filthy microfibre cloths.
    A build up of dust on your frame, wheels and fork lowers isn’t going to cause any harm between dry dusty rides. Maybe a full suspension frame will benefit from some cleaning around the pivot points, but a hardtail has no such problems.
    I prefer to wait a little longer and get the bucket out. It is more thorough, less likely to cause scratches and keeps microfibre cloths a lot cleaner for longer when used for drying off and applying protective coatings to an already washed bike.
    It’s not worth worrying about a bit of dust build up on a mountain bike, a dusty bike is an enjoyed bike. Unless you want to spend as much time cleaning during the dry spells as you do riding, just focus on the moving parts.
    Winter is bad enough for requiring constant cleaning without faffing about after every dusty trail in summer.

      I have seen many bike creek videos. I have a bike that creeked and it was a warranty issue. The shop removed the bottom bracket and regreased it and they did the same with all the rear suspension many times before I was offered a new frame.

    Or if you're like me, and spending $3k on a bike was a HUGE purchase, so im going to look after it like its a third child.

    I get it that channels need sponsors to grow and make money but I think channels should be responsible and only run with products that work. There is no such thing as waterless wash, they tried it with cars years ago and it was a flop, without rinsing the mud/dust off you are just spreading it around, it's like dipping your sponge in sand before using it on your bike, shame on you gmbn tech 👎
