fun fact : i work for aldi nearly 17yrs. you dont get a bonus. and customers served per hour is also wrong. items per hour scanned is in fact a number they track. (to see if you are much slower than others, and if - why is that - to fix it)
@@Plasmabeisser not an Aldi employee but where I work there's a system to track Items Per Minute, it's a pretty standard KPI for all retailers just measured a bit differently. We also get no bonus, but it's quickly noticed if someone is slower.
You forgot the accusatory way the cashier leans over to look in your trolley, and I mean really look, in every corner, to make sure you're not trying to sneak out a packet or biscuits or a salami or something, without paying for it.

This would happen to me when I was a kid here in the U.S. Absolute panic. Usually mom made it back on time as U.S. cashiers are NOT on super speedy mode. The worst, tho, was when she didn't & I had to stall for time.
Ah yes, crumpling up the receipt and throwing it away is a reflex for cashiers. They usually ask if you want the receipt, but most customers say no. And when I come along and say yes, they crumple it up anyway and when their brain finally processes the answer, they say "Oh" and get that look of regret on their face. Fun times...

Have you scanned your Lidl-App? (pray that it works cause WIFI in Lidl stores is notoriously bad so the customer has to step to the window to log on and scane the code. Most of them forget to activate their coupons and after totalling complain that they haven't been included in the sum. Some customers insist on scanning their trolley again which means you have to call your supervisor - "assistant manager required at cashier 1,2,3,4,...." -always a crowd pleaser causing super long delay....and the opening of yet another Kasse:))))
Amateurs, you need to mix in items that the cashier has to type in. Voila, you chill while packing the stuff in the bag while cashier is angry. Also order your items, so that the heavy stuff will be on the bottom of your bag 😏
Lidl used to have older type systems but their cashiers knew all codes by heart so it didn't slow them down. Now they're all touch screens and it actually slows them down. It's like an evolutionary arms race. Customers now have the advantage.

The most hateful thing, you can do to the cashier is to ask him to open another register. The cashier will love you, if you put the items flat on the band (no stapling) with the bar code on the bottom side ready to scan.

It happened to me as well. I lived in Southampton(England) for a year and the cashier in Asda (grocery store ) was unimaginably slow. I was looking around to see if other people notice that too but everyone was fine. I felt like the cashier is personaly messing with me. It took me a few weeks to not get unpatient/angry^^
@@HittesMittes It's alright, most of us get frustrated or upset at the checkout lines and the pace of the cashiers sometimes. As long as you're not rude to them, of course. The cashiers are probably just tired from working long shifts for minimal pay and dealing with people for hours on end. In the US, most grocery stores don’t even allow their cashiers to sit while they are at the checkout counter. In fact, Aldi is the only grocery store where I have seen cashiers allowed to sit while they work. Additionally, they have some of the most efficient cashiers I have ever seen in the US. So, just be kind to service workers, even if they're working a little slow. You never know what kind of day they're having or what things they're dealing with.

Hat letztens ein mittelalter Mann (sah wie ein Obdachloser aus) zu ner jungen Kassiererin gesagt. Sie hat ganz normal abkassiert, nicht extra schnell oder so. Der hatte eindeutig Frust und wollte nur wen anpampen.
Es müssen mindestens 35 Artikel die Minute gescannt werden Sonst gibt es ein Gespräch beim marktleiter oder sogar beim Bezirksmamanger Und bei lidl gibt es kein payback

TRICK 1: You can always win time with a bread/bread rolls, especially if it's an inexperienced cashier. They often have to look up the price in special tables, as it can't be labled with any barcodes. Of course you gotta place it in the middle of your shopping on the conveyor belt. TRICK 2: System is everything! First place the heavy, large things that you have to pack first, then the small, fragile things.
tip from a cashier: nearly nothing breaks / gets destroyed or whatever when you let it fall into your cart. just throw it in there and dont waste time by sorting stuff on the ground of the cart. Sort it while you put your stuff on the belt. heavy first - breakable stuff last (eggs/glass/flowers)
In germany we value efficiency at shopping. At least the men do. I am always looking for new ways to optimize my shopping since i hate wasting time with this crap.
In Germany you do most definitely not value efficiency at shopping. It boggles my mind each and every time that you choose to slow down the process by creating a bottleneck at the checkout. As done in many countries you need to shift the goods to a pickup box after payment, so that you process the next customer while the goods are being picked up. Same ting in many other contexts. German efficiency is a myth.

that is not a german thing only. In Sweden they do that too. But men and women separatly of course. In Germany too, there are women days and men days, it is rare that there is a mixed sauna and everybody is nude.

As a German, I've actually managed to figure out when my closest grocery store sends their second cashier, meaning I can stand in line before they even announce it.
I do the same, I'll be eyeing the main cashier who is watching the line grow. Then when I see them reach for the button, I start walking to the to be opened check out. Of course, now with all the self scan check outs, the fun has diminished.
I call it "Kassenspiel". Every time I'm at the checkout it's like a challenge to outspeed the cashier, I pack faster than they scan, but sometimes ooooh man

As a german store employee who often works the cash register I take great pleasure in scanning things so fast you have no time to put them away. Putting you as the shopper in the position of having to pay, then put away your groceries and having the whole line stare at you annoyed while I smile and say it's fine when you know you fucked up.

Das kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Als Kunde kann man sich auch Zeit lassen, das Schlimmste was einem passieren kann sind ein paar ungeduldige Blicke, aber normalerweise sind alle geduldig. Und das Personal ist die Geschwindigkeit gewohnt. Was ich in Supermärkten nicht ausstehen kann ist, wenn ich lange an der Kasse warten muss.

I can’t stand it when people pressure me while I check out from a grocery store! 😂 it takes as long as it takes. It’s not my problem there’s a line. It’s the store’s problem😂 I try to go through quickly and sometimes let people with less stuff ahead of me. I never understood the pressure! It’s common here in the U.S. it’s stresses me out if I have to buy a lot for my family 😬

I've been everywhere in Germany over the years and never had an interaction like this in any supermarket. Great conversation, interaction and genuinely comedic moments. Especially when they discovered my nationality, and then got confused because my first name is French, and i speak German in a cross between Saxony and Bavarian dialects with a fair dash of uptight Berliner. They are really lovely and i always look forward to my work trips there.
I've started working as a cashier now and Im definitely going that quick. Didn't notice at first but now I'm really trying my best to be as quick as possible xD living up to the Standard :)

Are you in an Aldi!?? Its the only place where they pick up your item, scan it and then put it back on the counter instead of just dropping it into a bag!! funny story that happened to me when i was 14: i was standing in a line because i went to a store for some reason, then when it was my turn i noticed that i forgot to lay my stuff on the belt and went back again. There was a full familly infront of me now and i had to wait 5 minutes for me to get to the counter again. they even offerded em to pay before them. I was compleatly wasted btw.

I carry a backpack which I put in the cart. The cashiers always asks me to pick up the bag to check if I am sneaking something underneath it.

Problem is the things the cashier has to type in are fruits so they have to go above everything else in the bag. But yeah you can put it on the side

The most hateful thing, you can do to the cashier is to ask him to open another register.
The cashier will love you, if you put the items flat on the band (no stapling) with the bar code on the bottom side ready to scan.

It happened to me as well. I lived in Southampton(England) for a year and the cashier in Asda (grocery store ) was unimaginably slow. I was looking around to see if other people notice that too but everyone was fine. I felt like the cashier is personaly messing with me. It took me a few weeks to not get unpatient/angry^^
NYC supermarkets are fairly fast. People will not tolerate slow. Trader Joe's move huge lines quickly. But outside of NYC, the pace may be slower.

@@HittesMittes It's alright, most of us get frustrated or upset at the checkout lines and the pace of the cashiers sometimes. As long as you're not rude to them, of course. The cashiers are probably just tired from working long shifts for minimal pay and dealing with people for hours on end. In the US, most grocery stores don’t even allow their cashiers to sit while they are at the checkout counter. In fact, Aldi is the only grocery store where I have seen cashiers allowed to sit while they work. Additionally, they have some of the most efficient cashiers I have ever seen in the US. So, just be kind to service workers, even if they're working a little slow. You never know what kind of day they're having or what things they're dealing with.
@@sarahcatherine2788 Yes sure. Im just a guest after all. Its not like I was about to rage or something. Also they were realy nice to me so its not like less pace has no good aspects. Its just that this situation is kept very functional in germany. You wont see the cashiers having long chats with the customers. I do find it nice but as a german I am kind of incapable of small talking. Also something I didnt know before. Grocery stores were by far the most culture shock inducing places for me. Im kind of sad that uk left us.... Anyway yes, be nice to people^^....

Hat letztens ein mittelalter Mann (sah wie ein Obdachloser aus) zu ner jungen Kassiererin gesagt. Sie hat ganz normal abkassiert, nicht extra schnell oder so. Der hatte eindeutig Frust und wollte nur wen anpampen.
Es müssen mindestens 35 Artikel die Minute gescannt werden
Sonst gibt es ein Gespräch beim marktleiter oder sogar beim Bezirksmamanger

You get used to it.
That'll shame them into action. Either improving their speed or forcing them to visit only during slower hours. Or force them to strategically placed items on the counter in such an order that it will quickly fit the bag. Those who are not quick must be smart.

Go to the higher quality stores, they usually have two large outfeed areas rather than a small corner

TRICK 1: You can always win time with a bread/bread rolls, especially if it's an inexperienced cashier. They often have to look up the price in special tables, as it can't be labled with any barcodes.
Of course you gotta place it in the middle of your shopping on the conveyor belt.
TRICK 2: System is everything! First place the heavy, large things that you have to pack first, then the small, fragile things.
Trick 3: mix reduced articles randomly on the line. If you're lucky, the cashier needs some milliseconds per item to tip in the discount💪
Tip 4. Try to put compact items together so you can grab more items with one hand at times.
tip from a cashier:
nearly nothing breaks / gets destroyed or whatever when you let it fall into your cart.
just throw it in there and dont waste time by sorting stuff on the ground of the cart.
Sort it while you put your stuff on the belt.
heavy first - breakable stuff last (eggs/glass/flowers)
In germany we value efficiency at shopping. At least the men do. I am always looking for new ways to optimize my shopping since i hate wasting time with this crap.
In Germany you do most definitely not value efficiency at shopping. It boggles my mind each and every time that you choose to slow down the process by creating a bottleneck at the checkout. As done in many countries you need to shift the goods to a pickup box after payment, so that you process the next customer while the goods are being picked up. Same ting in many other contexts. German efficiency is a myth.

that is not a german thing only. In Sweden they do that too. But men and women separatly of course. In Germany too, there are women days and men days, it is rare that there is a mixed sauna and everybody is nude.

As a german store employee who often works the cash register I take great pleasure in scanning things so fast you have no time to put them away. Putting you as the shopper in the position of having to pay, then put away your groceries and having the whole line stare at you annoyed while I smile and say it's fine when you know you fucked up.

Nach vielen Jahren Auslandsaufenthalt kann ich heute das System an den Kassen in deutschen Supermärkten nicht mehr ausstehen. Ich finde es unmenschlich, sowohl für das Personal, als auch für die Kundschaft.
Was bist du denn für ein erzürnter Niemand? Seih froh, das wir überhaupt so eine gewaltige Auswahl an Lebensmitteln haben. Etwas mehr Dankbarkeit wäre angebracht. Rum weinen hat der ganzen Sache noch nie abgeholfen. Haben dir deine Eltern nichts beigebracht?
Das kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Als Kunde kann man sich auch Zeit lassen, das Schlimmste was einem passieren kann sind ein paar ungeduldige Blicke, aber normalerweise sind alle geduldig. Und das Personal ist die Geschwindigkeit gewohnt.
Was ich in Supermärkten nicht ausstehen kann ist, wenn ich lange an der Kasse warten muss.

I can’t stand it when people pressure me while I check out from a grocery store! 😂 it takes as long as it takes. It’s not my problem there’s a line. It’s the store’s problem😂 I try to go through quickly and sometimes let people with less stuff ahead of me. I never understood the pressure! It’s common here in the U.S. it’s stresses me out if I have to buy a lot for my family 😬

I've been everywhere in Germany over the years and never had an interaction like this in any supermarket. Great conversation, interaction and genuinely comedic moments. Especially when they discovered my nationality, and then got confused because my first name is French, and i speak German in a cross between Saxony and Bavarian dialects with a fair dash of uptight Berliner. They are really lovely and i always look forward to my work trips there.
In Sri Lanka, supermarkets teach people to stay in line and keep a healthy gap between. Otherwise they don't seem to.

Are you in an Aldi!?? Its the only place where they pick up your item, scan it and then put it back on the counter instead of just dropping it into a bag!! I just don't get it, so I never shop there for anything more than one or two things. The 200 things I get, I go to a supermarket that drops it in my reusable bags!!

funny story that happened to me when i was 14: i was standing in a line because i went to a store for some reason, then when it was my turn i noticed that i forgot to lay my stuff on the belt and went back again. There was a full familly infront of me now and i had to wait 5 minutes for me to get to the counter again. they even offerded em to pay before them. I was compleatly wasted btw.

i was in germany when i was 9 (i knew no german and stuttered in english) and i was in a penny market for something small my father had forgotten to buy and in the blink of an eye it's scanned and i'm being talked to in horrorterror tongues. safe to say i broke down in tears as there was like 6 customers waiting in line behind me
