Amen Mike. FU$#......I was getting so pumped on CATS. I listened to a Relix interview with Neal and he seemed like such a genuinely good dude which seemed evident by how many amazing musicians welcomed him into their orbit. Peace Neal, you were a ray of sunshine in our souls and how i wish you could have found your own rays of sunshine to pierce through those dark clouds of despair.
This reminds me of one of my top 10 shows ever....and like most of you, that's over many blessed years of shows seeing live music...it was CATS at Zoetropolis in Lancaster PA, perhaps in 6/2019?... intimate venue, 300 capacity maybe ...owner Matt Hostetter (who rages with his own bands) happened to cross paths with Neal as Neal was on the road and looking for a local recording studio ...anyhow... that night, every musician, Adam esp!, Dan, Mark, and Neal were incredibily ON and engrained an orbit that remains in my memory. Again, one of the most mind blowing, body shaking shows ever. Would love to see video or hear that show again, anyone have anything?? We were do busy losing our minds to record anything. Anyhow, love them CATS and see them everytime they're within a few hours drive but sure do miss our brother Neal...RIP.
Man this was a group I was very excited about, for a minute we had Circles, Phil's terrapin bands, Dead and Co, Golden Gate Wingmen, JRAD, VoodooDead and LiveDead69 all touring/playing shows. Almost every night was a musical extravaganza! And thats just the dead related bands, phish, yonder, Jeff Austin were all going on as well then. R.i.p Robert Hunter, Buddy Cage, Neal Casal, Buddy Cage, Gloria Jones and so many more that have recently passed.
Seriously modern day Pink floyd, etc caliber kind of stuff. I'm mind blowed and feel so soothed from my stressingly feels listening to this performance. Top shelf Amazing guys and Artists. May you rest in peace dear Neal. I both love and feel you
Rest in peace brother. Love going out to hus family and friends. We lost a kind soul and fabulous musician. CATS in my opinion is the most original interesting group in the jam scene. Had hopes of seeing these guys around for a while. Godspeed Neal
First, RIP Neal. Huge loss. Second, I love the shots of Neal playing and you can see the drummer is having the time of his life. As a bass player, I recognize the feeling when you're laying it down with real talent. Cheers. Keep the jam alive.
saw them in Austin last night 4/27. AWESOME show. trying to decide if they're Steely Dan with more creativity or Grateful Dead with more discipline. the real answer is neither or both. because they're incredibly unique live. one of the best concert I've ever seen.
These guys started as a project group to make music for the Dead reunion tour. There so great there still playing, I just found themselves now. So glad I did.
I just found these guys. A little too late, I see. What a shame. Neal was so talented. He played with so many people who will miss him terribly. Such a loss.
" you'll find yourself so far away from here don't let your smile go up in flames" Lines are from Casal's song Raining Straight Down. That gentle smile I'll keep in my heart. Of course, music will be there.
still can't believe neal is gone physically but his spirit and music will live on forever. i hope he found the peace he so desperately needed. rip brother until we meet again, may the universe hold you in the palm of it's hand...............peace
OMG!!! I just got into these guys in the last couple of months! Can't believe what a beautiful talent has passed!!! I feel cheated out of listening to the jams that would have been.
The Black Crowes have become one of my favorite bands and it’s all because I found out Neal Casal was playing with CR. Him and Adam intertwine so beautifully here. Rock on CATS!!!
so, I'm watching this and wondered about the bass player who looked a whole lot like the bass player in Grateful Shred and low and behold, one and the same. Dan Horne. The Jack Casady type sunglasses were the give away. I fell for this band while listening in on the first Fare Thee Well show and in time learned that Neal is from the town I live in. It was months before I learned of his death. I only learned just now about his suicide. Tragic loss for he, his family and loved ones, and us.
So sad I’m only discovering them now after Casal’s tragic end. I think the music community as a whole weeps for the lost of a truly great player, and great man. I feel for his family and his band mates, they lost a brother. Shredding for the angels now Neil.
ça part tranquille, presque banal...puis on se laisse embarquer et finalement c'est très jouissif. Musicalité au top, bravo...dommage que Neal nous ait quitté, ce qu'il a apporté est important. Là il est merveilleusement accompagné.
Tight sweet jams. Darn it Neal. I literally discovered these guys yesterday after listening to Goose play a bunch (Mr. TH-cam recommended CATS) after listening to a whole set I was so pumped to check them out more and jam along. So I jump in and what's the 1st thing I read. R.I.P. Neal. Never got to meet you, but have a feeling I'll learn a lot through what you left behind in music man. And I totally get it. Can be tough. If we only we could play music and get lost in it 24 hours a day. Problem is we can't And reality creeps in pretty quick after your last song jamming with the boys. That ride home is such a mix of emotions.
R.I.P. Neal you are going to be missed tremendously.
absolutely devastating.

Holy fuck really?
It’s been hard to accept, I don’t want to, this is happening far too often. Just gut wrenching.
He was only 50. I just read it was suicide. So tragic.
RIP Neal.
Adam MacDougall is one of the most underrated keyboardists ever!

Same...wish I would have stumbled upon this while he was still with us, really digging this hard.
Same here, Sad and Happy moment! Discover a great jam band and then honor a great guitarist! RIP Neal!

this music is easy to listen to and to see the band so in the pocket is truly special. timeless.
Sad news. Your music lives on Neal. Jam it out in eternity.

Why do so many ultra talented musicians have to leave our world so early? It is so sad. Jam band extraordinaire! R.I.P. Neal
yeah, this music is sonic gold, and we miss you Neal more and more as time flows on!

Thank you, Neal. We all loved, and continue to love you. I'm in awe of the drum and bass duo.
These guys killed it at Charleston Pour House! Amazing! RIP Neal, may you forever feel the music brotha!
As someone who struggles with debilitating depression and anxiety, Neal's death just hits too close to home. Rest easy man.

Speaking of God, whoda thunk that Jesus could lay down such nasty grooves on the drums? ;)
Music to float through Space on this Big Rock to.
These guys are great! Puts me in mind of my Herbie Hancock Head Hunter album from the 70s ....
These guys started as a project group to make music for the Dead reunion tour. There so great there still playing, I just found themselves now. So glad I did.

Watching this because of what the interviewer said about the guitarist having a giant pedalboard, in the episode where CHON was the guest
You guys are tighter than a freakin clam!! Best regards from upstate New York! :-)

Man, you sound great! Reminds me of those space-outs I had during the seventees from smoking the good stuff. Awesome tunes, man.
Amazing band. Saw them a bunch of times. They sound even better when in the little wooden theatre in Norfolk, CT!

Yeah I tried to see them at disc jam, peach, and lockn this year and all three times they played on Thursday and I missed them :(
This band is bad ass and great instrumental jamband. Love the keys and synths...but whole band is solid and the drummer and bass hold down the grooves
How is that bass player that funky with a pick??!!!!
Amazing work, I loved it. Under appareciated in the music community, and a vital backbone.
