I'm not really a beginner any more but I still just had to watch this video, because you never know when you're still going to learn something, but you've made this video so clear that if I was beginning, this is basically a perfect place id want to start, nice work Sir!
I've been producing EDM for roughly 5 years, i am not the greatest but i have been able to get an unreleased (yet coming soon 😉) track signed to a smaller label and i recently started watching edm tutorials especially more of your videos because i never wanna stop learning and by watching these videos I've learned alot more than i knew years ago! These videos have been really helpful and my entire perspective aswell as a big percentage of how i produce has changed immensely for the better 🤙🏻 Thank you for all the advice ❤️🔥
Great guide! You explained everything really well. I'm from Poland, 17 years old, and I've been interested in electronic music basically since I was a kid. In 2015, I started listening to some trap, Troyboi, and so on, but then it quieted down a bit. In 2018, I discovered DJ Timmy Trumpet, and I fell in love with EDM because of him. In 2020, I became more interested in techno and house, and that's when Hardwell spoke to me. I knew about him before, but that's when everything started for me, and that's how I fell in love with techno. I like those dark, strong, and energetic beats. I also want to start making music. There aren't many tutorials like yours on Polish TH-cam, so I'm glad I found you. I hope I'll succeed. Thank you again!
I've been practicing for a year now and have been frustrated with my progress... That's when I realized that I need to just master the fundamentals and basics before I can get more complicated. I'll be analyzing the beginning steps for now.
A great tip for reference tracks is to sketch out the arrangement in the DAW using labels and then you can have a good visual reference for when certain elements come in and go out.
Hi Will, have you ever thought about making a video about the different types of electronic music and how to identify them? I think it would be very helpful! I love your channel btw
Yeah, I like this approach for beginners. I still use it and I always get something worth working on. I take it one step further: I change the percussion samples and I tune them (with EQ peak filters or with pitch shifting; instead of reducing resonant frequencies, I *strengthen* them). Then, that gives me ideas for a melody. After that, the rest just falls in place.
You're welcome, and you totally can! It's not rocket science - it's passion, commitment and learning the right things in the right order, and lots of practise! :)

I think Maybe I should choose some other song . Please suggest me what should I do , listen to that song , it's available everywhere , and please give me a tip on how to make such sounds . Thank you
Hi, I have a question about EDM, maybe you know the answer? A popular element of it seems all EDM is what I would call the bursting thermometer, or something similar. It's when there is a pulsing sound that emerges and builds in tempo and pitch until it "explodes" and it's so corny but whatever, so is most EDM in my view. But I imagine that element has a name so that when EDM makers want to talk about it they can. What is it called?
Hello. I am a electronic dance music artist. I happen to find your videos because I was struggling with creating electronic dance music. I need advice or any additional help with my music. I do not want to give up on my music. I do love electronic dance music and producing it. I am just running into wall every time I release a new song. It does not sound just right. I would happily and readily take any suggestion. I need somebody to just talk me through my mistakes on producing electronic dance music. In addition, great video.
im just so confused how one goes from this, to learning to use turn tables. like someone told they didnt even do anything w turn tables and actually djing until over a year after learning how to use ableton aahhh
Afaik, turntables and controllers are really more for live performances. Modern DJ controllers sometimes have jog wheels that act like kind of like turntables (and can be used for things like beat matching and scratching). Outside turntablism (which is an amazing art form in itself), you really don't need turntables for music production, and I haven't seen much use of them in the EDM scene other than a few baby scratches here and there. If you're interested in turntablism, look up DJ Angelo.
