The music are 8-bit arragements of music done by the Hololive members! For stage one the song is "Suspect", the song for the random boxes is "Ocame Kinou" which is really a vocaloid song, but the cover Hololive as a group did of it is very famous. The vampire survivors comparison is warranted because wll, it IS a vampire survivors clone, tho it has grown to be much more than that.
All the enemies in this game are representation of the fanbases of the Vtubers. The shrimp are Chumbuds (Gura's fans), the skeletons are Deadbeats (Calliope's fans), Occtopis are Takodachis (Inani's fans), chikens are KFP's (Kiara Fried Chiken, as the name implies, Kiara's fans), The alligator's are Investigators (Ame's fans), the clocks are Kronies (Kronii's fans), owls are Hoomans (Mumei's fans), green buds are Saplings (Fauna's fans), bread dogs are Sanalites (Sana's fans) and the rats with pompadour hair are Brats (Hakos Baelz's fans).
The Items and weappons themselves, are also references and injokes, like the lava bucket, referencing Sakura Miko and her constant tragedies with lava buckets in minecraft. Of these there are way to many for a single comment, and this is already a novel so I'll leave it at this. Have fun with the game, and if it pleases you, jump on the rabbit hole. Check the first tab of the upgrade shop for the Special Attack, the Stamp system, and the Enchantment system to make each character and run even more distinctive.
The "Skills" are unique to each character, and each character has 3, that all have 3 levels. Along with the character's special attack they define that character's base playstyle. It's a good idea to read all the skills and think about how they might synergize with each other and with weapons/items.
The Tears are, as is written on the gacha screen, for getting duplicates of characters you already have. You can spend them to unlock specific characters that you haven't pulled yet, or unlock outfits if you have a lot of tears. Getting duplicates of characters also increases their stats a little bit.
It's a good idea to build "tall" in this game, when it comes to weapons. Pick up 1-3 weapons and level them up fast (along with the main weapon) to level 7, and then pick more weapons and do the same.
My mid max soul it's hurt when all the wep is still lvl 1-5 😅😅😂
Ah okay. I'll try to focus on ~3 weapons instead then! That is pretty different than other horde survivors that I've played

The key with more experience is, getting two synergistic weapons to max level, lets you make a "collab" which is a new elite weapon in their place. So getting 2 weapons to max fast can get you one of those much earlier.
1) The red weapons are the default weapon for each character. It is almost always good to max that out quickly along with the character specific skills.
2) All the other weapons when maxed can be combined with certain other maxed weapons to create something new. This is called a Collab (a reference to famous collaboration streams). When a collab is possible a golden anvil will appear.
3) Every weapon, item and skill is a reference to some joke, event or trait that has come up over the years during these girls' streams. Like the Spider Cooking weapon you had is when Akai Haato (Hachama) cooked and ate a real tarantula on camera.
4) Most of the enemies and bosses are the mascots/fans of one of the girls. Like the shrimps are Gura's fans (the blue shark girl you played) and the little alligators in coats are "investigators" - Amelia Watson's fans.
5) The weird looking golden guy you saw that dropped coins is Yagoo (Motoaki Tanigo) the CEO and creator of Hololive who has become a character in his own right. Fans often call him "best girl". He's also the guy on the breakable statue at the center of the map. Whenever you see the word "tears" in the game it is a reference to Yagoo being upset that his company of "Idols" has gone horribly wrong (but he's still very proud).
Ah, wow this really makes me think about all of the hard work the dev put into including all the references. Truly amazed!
Holobomb: Yes. It's the Hololive logo and totally not a copyright safe version of the minecraft TNT.
FPS mastery: Yeah, it's first person shooter. She's a FPS gamer
Glowstick: Common in Idol (pop star) concerts.
BL Book: Bacon Lettuce. Yes. I mean Body Language. Totally innocent and nothing lewd at all.
Bubba: You can pet the dog. Stop moving and hold the P key.
Anvil:
- Levels up one weapon or item for free (unless you obtain Blacksmith's headgear, then it's more)
- For max level weapons, spend coins for a chance to upgrade weapons. Upgraded weapons do more damage.
- Once unlocked, can add a random enchant to a weapon for 250 coins.
Haste = Attack speed
Weapons always max at 7. Some items max at 3 while others at 5. There are a handful that also max at 1. Skills (character-specific passives) will max at 3.

BL (Boys Love) is not necessarily lewd or even porn at all for actual japanese gay porn you say Yaoi. BL is wholesome gay stories while Yaoi is straight up gay sex.
The Gangster Shrimps and Skeletons are actually a reference to a music video [Q] from Calli and Gura
An extra layer to the reference is that the person who did the animation in the Music Video is also the person behind the creation of Holocure, Kay Yu.

Bit of advice, never upgrade past max, it adds like 2 or 3 extra damage, which means very little when you're opponents start getting thousands or tens of thousands of hp. Always worth more to upgrade weapons to max and then max another weapon

Ive been waiting for you to discover a collab but man the lvl7 weapons are just unlucky. Maxed glowstick, maxed asacoco, maxed axe. lmao

Below some tips, feel free to ignore the below long comment (ive been watching other channels trying this game out, so ill just copy paste my comment)
A good rule of thumb in playing a character is focusing first in their respective main weapons and their three unique skills and maxing them out.
Its where they show their playstyle. Some focused on healing, some on critical, or being durable/dodging.
Weapons/items/skills can sometimes have a blinking yellow '+' on the lower right of the box, press right directional key/button to scroll and see more. px means pixels. Some skills will have a visual indicator of its effects by a circle around your character.
Collabs can be done by two weapons that are lvl7. Its from golden anvils.
Golden anvils will appear if you possess two compatible weapons that are lvl7.
Weapons can be leveled up in lvlups and normal anvils.
Leveling up weapons in anvils are free on 1-7.
7 and higher cost holocoins and can fail.
Weapons max out at 7. Some Items max at 3-5. Skills max at 3.
The most recommended to buy first on the shop is Unlocking the Special Attacks, it costs 500coins.
Specials of each character are very different and can serve as being a panic button.
In the shop there is three options at the top-Enhancements,Stat Upgrades,Others. Buying from stat upgrades can greatly help in clearing stages.
You can get duplicates on gacha and it will increase the stats of the respective character by 1% and get 1 tear.
The tears can be interpreted as some kind of pity system.
Use up the tears to choose the character/character outfit you want and get it instantly.
Thanks for the tips! I did use some of these methods in my later runs and did much better. I totally agree with the special attack thing - it's an SOS button on most characters from what I seen
Every weapon/item/skill/special/enemy has lore attached to it. BL book is "Boy's Love" and plug in type asacoco is a butt plug lol. The statue is "Yagoo" the CEO of cover corp which owns hololive
I am also surprised a game like this is free. I my opinion it surpasses vampire survivors.
Expect more updates as there are still more hololive members yet added to the game and more generations of vtubers being added to hololive

Pekora is hinted at in the Holo House.
The tears are bad luck protection. When you get duplicate character pulls, the characters stats are increased by 1% (per duplicate pulled, to a maximum of 20% total) and you get a tear. When you collect 7 tears, you can unlock a character you dont have already unlocked on that banner or collect 15 to unlock an alternate costume. The older characters have a few alternate costumes while currently the newer ones dont yet.

not too far into the video yet so i don’t know if you figure it out later, but i’ll just say it anyway in case: the issue with free aim may be that you’re clicking and holding - free aim is on a toggle. i saw this in another video, they had the same issue.

I'm designing a "VS like", although it's more inspired by a variety of games and far from a 1 to 1 clone. I limited the number of weapons at a base level to 5 (which can be upgraded). The only real reason is visual clarity and performance.

I just wish there was a port for android. Playing this on the go would be awesome. Sure the steam deck is a thing but that is hella pricey.
I think there is definitely a possibility! Seems like a game that could be ported but.. there is only a single dev really for the game so who knows..

Since I see a lot of info but not one about this.... Everyone is floored that this game is free... Hololive/Cover Corp has a strict fan content policy so the game actually cannot be monetized... That being said, the developer has stood on principle, regardless of that, that this is a passion project he started as a fan of both the Vtubers and Vampire Survivors as a game. (VS itself blew up in the Vtuber scene as a cheap game with the potential of endless hours of content.) He refuses to take money for it, and people have even asked to donate to him otherwise and he declined that as well. Taking money on a passion project would sully it, in his personal opinion.
The developer himself has a fairly prominent background in animation, both traditional and pixel. He's done work on anime, smaller projects and even on games art (such as River City Girls.) This is his first personal game project AFAIK.
Edit: Furthering the prior point on top of another thing you noted; The 'Yakuza blend' as you put it on the skeletons and shrimps are a reference to a music video the dev worked on for a song collaboration between Gawr Gura and Calliope Mori.. Though as an 8 day old video, maybe you learned that already.
He's stood so much on this principle that even after Hololive/Cover Corp reach out to partner with him so the game could be monetized he still declined.
