As of 6/20, the official TH-cam smart tv apps have broken support for user-uploaded 5.1 videos. You are still able to listen to surround sound content by using third-party apps such as SmartTubeNext. I will update this comment once the official apps have been fixed!

Works for me on my Android phone with Android 13 QPR beta 1 with spatial Audio, comes up as ec3 5.1
And also works through my ccwgtv comes up as the same specifications. It's been working for me for months...maybe TH-cam is taking a while to turn 5.1 on for all compatible videos?
For me work in my Fire TV 4K Max through Yamaha Receiver.
I can’t get 5.1 on my Xbox series x so this is useless

This worked perfectly on my 5.1 system. With a Sound blaster audigy card and some great speakers.
Works perfectly on my Sony HT-SS360 using S-Air 5.1 Surround setup via my Chromecast Gen 3. 👍🏻

I have a 5.1 surround sound setup. All 5 work on the setup test tones but on this video, the surround speaker sound is coming from the corresponding front instead of rear channels. IE, right surround comes out the right front, same with left surround.

hehehe i just could not figure out my ear buds issue it was like all sound came from the opessite side. Apearantly it did, i crosed cables while fixing it with my buds making side sounds go haywire thanks for the nice test sound
A bummer that left and right channel test different frequencies in this video. For a moment I thought my headphones broke. Got some Beyerdynamics MMX300 B-Ware and almost sent them back but they were fine in other tests.

It seems my TV decodes surround channels as a mono stream. Getting no separation on the rears. Or is that bc of TH-cam's surround codec?
In Potplayer did work. Now we have to get the PC with 5.1 Speakers!

@@akyhne My computer is just another component in my home theater system. My "computer monitor" is a 65" OLED. The audio from the computer is run through a high end surround processor and then an amplifier, then to full-blown home stereo/surround speakers. Of course, gaming on it is the bee's knees....
@@batman.darthmaul I was just curious to what audio setup you have. I can't seem to find a decent set of surround speakers, for PC. My audio card is not that high end, just a Soundblaster Z.
@@akyhne I was lucky enough to buy the Logitech X-530 set when it was new back in the day. They've been great for simple computer speakers! Sorry they aren't made anymore, but there are probably similar options.
This doesn't work from TH-cam. Stereo sound only.
If i use a 5.1 test file natively in Windows 10 with MPC, i also get sound in surround speakers.
I also get 5.1 in PC Games, so 5.1 on TH-cam is broken as all test videos there have 2.0 output.
Use Potplayer. Make sure that the format must have been AVC.

TH-cam only outputs in 5.1 not 7.1 if I'm not mistaken so that will be up to TH-cam to change it.

good evening, I'm facing a problem and I haven't messed with it at all, the logitech speakers, the surround ones are not heard when I do a test on youtube, only the ones in front of the fronts are heard and when I test them in the PC control panel sound, can they hear what's going on done?

Thanks! I wanted to verify if my system works correctly with DD5.1 and it didnt... Then i changed some settings now channels come through separately as they should.
What did you change?
The fact that YT only supports 320 kbps and it still sounds great. CD formats can give 1140 kbps with 16 bits depth and 44.1 MHz bitrate.
Wish there were some of these videos on Netflix. They support 640 kbps Dolby Digital and 760 kbps Dolby Atmos. So the sound range would be a serveral magnitudes better.
This video is with Dolby Digital Plus. The lowest bitrate for Plus, is 640 kb/a, so this is a minimum of that, and up to around 1200 kb/s, which is max. for Plus.

Check your wiring again, then the receiver (or decoder), if it's still reversed for you, it's likely you're having separation or bounce issues.

Thanks for the onfo. I am thinking maybe it just sounds backwards. The rest of the test its accurate, all of my games, movies etc are all correct. Im thinking just my poor judgement cant tell?

@@gamagama69It probably just sounds like it works for the center channel. Check if it's not just because left and right are playing the exact same audio. That would give the same effect.

I can’t seem to get 5.1 surround sound to work on TH-cam. Right surround is right and left surround is left. Actually, my received tells me it’s a Stereo recording.

I played this video in my 5.1.2 system when front left and front right sound producing sorround back left,right also produce sound and when sourround speaker time to produce sound there is no sound in surround speaker

Yes, it works on NVIDIA Shield, but it does not work under Windows chrome/edge browser
The TH-cam browser version doesn't support advanced audio codecs like full ec3 implementation

@@jacobdoesaudio it’s not my equipment as “My Scientology Movie” is playing in proper with 5.1 playback. I believe your video isn’t encoded properly.
@@playnicegames So here’s what I’ve figured out. I have a few ways to play surround/Atmos content in my studio and I've confirmed my results.
My files are correctly encoded and still stored as 5.1 on TH-cam servers, but the official TH-cam app broke support for 5.1 on user-uploaded content as of Saturday.
On Android TVs, you can use “SmartTubeNext” (worth checking out regardless), and it plays back the user-uploaded 5.1 correctly in all of TH-cam's 5.1 compressed audio formats.
“My Scientology Movie” works because it’s an official Google upload for the “TH-cam Movies & Shows” platform. Along with that, TH-cam TV's surround sound content still works.
I’ll stay updated on this issue and see if there’s a fix. If you want me to, I can reply to this comment chain when I have more information on the future of user-uploaded 5.1 content.

5.1 works as it should on my end. Using Sony str-an1000 streaming through TH-cam on a 55in Samsung.

Because you have to make this test with a receiver 5.1 channels.

TH-cam broke their official client support for 5.1 audio on user-uploaded videos about a week ago. I'm still waiting on a response to see if there is a time frame for it to be added again. You are still able to use third-party TH-cam players to listen to the surround sound such as SmartTubeNext on Android TV devices. Sorry about that!
@@jacobdoesaudio Only on mobile devices and TVs where audio is generally stereo or mono... It's paradoxical, but you could say it's "smart" on Google's part. However, it doesn't make sense that it can't be experienced on a PC, where it's more likely that people have multichannel audio.

What sort of setup are you trying to play it on?
It plays on my Denon receiver using an Apple TV and Chromecast with GoogleTV. Nvidia Shields are not supported yet but other Android TV devices might be compatible. 4K TVs with the TH-cam app might be compatible as well according to the documentation
Windows does not currently support 5.1 TH-cam playback through audio interfaces or receivers.

I gotchu, I dunno if you still have it and headsets can be annoying.
You need to check what codec is currently being used to decode your test.
There's a very VERY high chance the software has been misconfigured, instead, check your entire audio pipeline. It will likely be the driver not playing nice. Swap it to the windows basic one. Uninstall all the *related* audio software, restart pc and reinstall.
If it's a headset that uses a single or double 3.5mm jack, check the rings on both your device and headphones (single 3.5mm jack = 3 rings [for left,right,mic], double 3.5mm jack = 2 rings [left,right] & 1 ring [mic]) - if using windows verify in sound and communication settings that your headphones are default device.
It is nearly always better to use a full USB implementation (as in USB from headphones to PC with no sound card in-line) everything else is prone to configuration difficulties

channels except Center which is streamed to both left and right to create a phantom channel.
