@@steegen101yeah, there's a large team dedicated to completing all of the remaining levels. Last I heard from them, they were on good track of doing so months before it will be over.

He's so right though. I swear sometimes I'll be trying to listen to someone right in front of me and somehow be able to listen in to someone elses conversation 50 meters away on a balcony or something but not get a single word of what the person in front of me is saying. It's like the worlds shittiest superpower, super hearing but only for sounds you're not trying to hear.

What I love about Lost Levels is that it looks IDENTICAL to a romhack of the original. The slightly altered sprites, the disjointed level layouts, the dull palette changes, it's all there. Combine that with the absolutely horrific, deranged level design and you could totally convince me this game is not real.

I know this is probably what most of the comments are about... but I recently rewatched the Green Demon series and the change is incredible. Shoutouts to Simpleflips for losing so much weight and doing such a great thing for his health. He should be proud of himself, because he deserves it.

2:32 Simple accidentally performing a difficult trick while trying to high bounce off of a koopa (something you can't do in SMB1)
"Difficult trick" you do a power up jump if you get a shroom when you dont hold A and then i believe you can start to hold A during the freeze and mario will jump mid air as the unfreezes

38:33 got me curious about the launch price of SMB2 in Japan: judging from some Japanese fan sites it launched at 2500 yen (plus tax) in 1986. According to online inflation calculators that's roughly ¥3126 today (apparently Japan has had significantly less inflation than e.g. the USA), which is in turn roughly $21.07. Additionally that's only the price for buying a new disk with it-the Famicom Disk System also allowed for overwriting other games onto existing disks, usually for ¥500, which would mean it was potentially available for a fifth of that price (assuming one has a disk to use for it).
Note that this price being as low as it is was basically the whole selling point of the FDS, so normal cartridge games weren't usually that cheap, and also if for instance we were to convert 1986 yen to 1986 USD then to 2023 USD (rather than going 1986 yen to 2023 yen to 2023 USD) I'm not sure if it would turn out the same (and I'm no economist so don't take anything I've said here too seriously).
$60 in 1986 though would indeed roughly be $168.43 today, which I assume is where the number that was discussed later came from, but this particular game probably wasn't being sold anywhere at that price.

To nathanial's yoshi's island comment.....Yes, it effectively is a mario game and NOT a yoshi game, though it WAS the start of the gameplay for most yoshi games. Think about the one thing yoshi's island (and kinda the other island games) have that the other yoshi games like wooly world, crafted world and yoshi's story: Mario IS in the game, via baby mario. he's a central part of the story, he's a gameplay mechanic due to the whole carrying him thing, you DO play as him whenever you get a "super star" in select levels for a short bit of time and it's structured around 8 worlds with a multitude of levels, 1 mid world castle and 1 end of world castle, all culminating in the final world ending with a battle with bowser. It may not be a "traditional" mario game, but it's still STRUCTURED like one, unlike yoshi's story.
"He did what you couldn't" is a WILD fucking statement, i'm so glad i got to see that here
