      Doubt it. The nephalem gained the same power over life and death as Malthael. And the species was already stronger than both demons and angels. I highly doubt Diablo has the chops to take possession of the Diablo 3 hero. Personally, I like to think that my necromancer became a death speaker and rebuilt the order of the priests of Rathma and whatever disaster may come knocking, it has nothing to do with him. Either way, the prime and lesser evils are free now and Mephisto is already working his manipulations in Diablo 4. I suppose you could consider it a failure on the nephalem’s part, though if you think about it, that’s really Malthael’s screw up.

      The Nephelem will absolutely be the next villain following their power scaling. Considering the villain of D3 was effectively Tathomet, the series' narrative move back to a darker tone, and the consistent themes of power and corruption in the series, it would make perfect sense.
      D4 was a move backwards in terms of power scaling. The villain was the child of a Prime Evil, and the seeming next villain is back up to a Prime Evil proper, but not yet Diablo--the series namesake. The best means for Diablo or his brothers to increase past the Prime Evil "level of power" that doesn't involve combining into Tathomet again and retreading ground from a narrative perspective would be to corrupt the Nephalem which they already set up with the ending of D3.
      Consider:
      1) The Prime Evils have since been fully aware of the re-emergence of the Nephalem following the events of D3.
      1a) The Nephalem must be addressed to resolve both their plot thread AND to show why the Prime Evils are confident to progress.
      2) Lilith, Inarius, and Rathma were the major players of D4, and all 3 are gone.
      2a) The series still has considerable focus on Nephalem as a race, and there's only one active Nephalem presently.
      3) The majority of humanity was established as having been killed by Malthael.
      3a) This suggests the Prime Evils only have one remaining Nephalem as their barrier to power considering the removal of angels from this point in the story as a narrative focus and, potentially from existence.
      4) The theme of D4 is the corrupting power of hatred, with a secondary theme being the reliance and cyclical nature of hatred -> destruction -> terror.
      4a) Evil in Diablo has, from the beginning, always directly resulted from the corruption of good. Anu resulted in Tathomet -> Albrecht resulted in Diablo 1 -> Tal Rasha, Kalim/Sankekur, Aiden resulted in Diablo 2 -> Leah, Imperius, and Mathael result in Diablo 3 -> Inarius, and seemingly Nyrelle result in Diablo 4
      Whatever the result, The Nephalem certainly isn't going to end up as the first hero in the history of Diablo lore to live happily ever after.

    I don't know about the other 6 Nephalem, but the Crusader at least seems to have died at some point between D3 and D4 - assuming Johanna is in fact the canon representative of the player Crusader the same way Aidan/Moereina/Jazreth are the canon representations of the Warrior/Rogue/Sorcerer from D1 and Carthas/Cassia/Isendra/Xul are the D2 Paladin/Amazon/Sorceress/Necromancer (for some reason, the Druid, Assassin, and Barbarian still haven't been given canonical names).

    I disagree that the Nehphalem fought Tathemet in D3. Diablo themselves was marked as The Prime Evil, but it was still Diablo in form. Tathemet is only mentioned by name in D3, and it was Diablo's Will that we fought. I think Tathemet in the flesh is being saved for a later storyline.

      @loatheburger  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah it could be - as the OG Tathamet was celestial in size and a 7 headed dragon. Diablo as the Prime Evil was still incredibly formidable though - being able to single handedly defeat Imperius, destroy the crystal gates, and almost destroy Anu’s Spine - the crystal arch. If Diablo was a mini-tathamet, the player character was basically a mini-anu BEFORE he divided himself of Tathamet

    I'm sorry to say this but the premise of this video is both pointless and misleading. The reason is very simple: The Nephalem in the game is sitting in your couch/gaming chair whenever you are playing the game because... surprise surprise!!! YOU ARE A NEPHALEM in the game. It becomes pretty obvious once you advance a bit in the story of any of the games, you find out pretty quickly. For example Diablo 3 makes it pretty obvious early story, so does 4 sometime midway in the campaign: Lorath first implies that you are Nephalem after you beat Duriel in one of the story chapters.. he explicitly says that no normal human being can single handedly beat a lesser evil. And then Lilith at the end explicitly says you are one when she entices you to join her side by offering you leadership of the army of Nephalem she is planning to raise to fight both Heaven and Hell.
    My point is that this video is pretty pointless because you can find out yourself the answer of the question you are using as a premise very early in the game... all you need to do is to play any of the games for like one or two hours and you'll quickly figure out that you are a Nephalem. Just the basic game progression will make it clear to you even if you choose not to pay attention to the story: you start as a relatively weak regular joe with like one skill/spell at your disposal, and then you grow in power to a point that you can face the worst that Hell (and even Heaven) has to offer... who else other than a Nephalem can do that in Diablo lore, really?

    • @loatheburger
      @loatheburger  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It doesn't sound like you watched the video and I wish you hadn't come with an accusatory tone as you made some good points around Lorath's comments in D4
      The video is about where the canonical PC is from Diablo 3, not the race overall - as at the end of Reaper of Souls, Tyrael hints strongly that the player-character (nephalem) has a chance of having a villain arc. All the classes from Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 have their canonical equivalents in the game (Blood Raven, Aiden, The Summoner for example), so I am theorizing where the one from the 3rd could be in D4

    • @EtherealStudios
      @EtherealStudios หลายเดือนก่อน

      You do know that there is a 50 year gap between the end of Reaper of Souls and Diablo 4 right? You also know that the Nephalem in D3, regardeless of how powerful they became, they were all still MORTAL.. right? Meaning that they age ... right? Or at least AFAIK
      there was no implication in RoS that they became/will become immortal like the first Nephalem of Sanctuary were.
      So just do the math. If your character in D3 was in its mid twenties (and I am being conservative) this means that by the beginning of D4 they would be at least 75 years old, if not older.
      Hence, here is the simple answer to the premise of your video. At D4 the Nephalem from D3 are either :
      (a) Dead, either due to aging or cuz they got killed battling against the forces of Hell/Heaven (which I am sure they kept doing post RoS)
      (b) They had offspring and YOU are it. Meaning that either the momma and/or pappa of your D4 character faced off Leah's Diablo and Malthael.
      and the last option, which is the crux of my original answer to your video is ....
      .... wait for it .....
      (c) YOU are the Nephalem from D3. If you do wish to RP this in D4 you can easily make a character that looks to be in its 70s in D4's character creator, and boom! There you go, you can fulfill the fantasy of your hardy D3 character still duking it out while at the same time battling with rheuma and dementia (just joking!!!! I myself am an old fart and I do have an old fart as a D4 character)
      Which leads me back to my original post. The premise of it is pointless because the D3 Nephalem are YOU in the game... either because they died and you took up their mantle after hearing about their legendary feats, or because they were your mommy and/or daddy so you are following their footsteps, or because effectively YOU were one of them.
      As it has been mentioned before, your theory about they possible becoming evil post RoS is most likely a plot strand that the developers planted as an intro to what would have been the second D3 expansion... which didn't happen cuz Bobby Kotick pulled the plug on it.
      Sure, as you mention, who knows maybe they will pick up again this plot arch in the future, but for it to work they would need to make it so that the D3 Nephalem achieved immortality, and this lead them to desire even more power , which is what makes them evil ... (there is precedent of this in diablo Lore, actually, there's a story in Tales from the Horadric Library that deals exactly with this ... this desire of power after achieving almost inmortality is clearly portrayed as the beginning of the end for Sanctuary's first Nephalem....) but still, regardless, that doesn't exclude the fact that in one way or another, in D4 YOU are D3's Nephs.. either by admiration, descendence or cuz you are them.
      Hope this post clarifies better my position to your video.

    You the player are the Nephilim. Mortals dont have the powers like the characters in the game. Why else are you able to kill a demon or diablo himself. You arent a mortal but a nephilim.

      In Diablo 1 & 2, you are mortal - the nephalem only return after the world stone is destroyed. In Diablo 4 yeah - there's definitely a good chance you are one. In Diablo 1 & 2 canonically though - the prime evils were vanquished by a group, not just 1 person
