    My husband is Mexican born and observes that Mifune had a deep understanding of what an indigenous person would be like, how they would move and act. He had already played these types of roles in Japan that it was, indeed, a natural and easy transition to 'Spanish'..

      Thank you for your comment. It is true that he was naturally inclined to play this type of role. He worked very hard on this one and loved so much Mexico (and the warm welcome he received there) that he came back to Japan with a mexican plate for his most beloved car, the famous MG. But he was not prisoner of this kind of roles and could play anything. He was extremely versatile and bold.

      Thank you for your comment. Mifune Toshiro was unique as an actor but also a beautiful soul. Humble, hard-working, very polite, kind and generous. And funny too. He loved Mexico and its culture and was very welcome in the country during the filming of "Animas Trujano". I'm happy that this movie was finally restored, even if the cinemascope version was just released in DVD in Japan, which is sad because it's a great movie that should be promoted everywhere. I'm a collector of his movies, having now more than 100 of them and I'm never tired of watching him. He had so many great roles! People often think of Mifune Toshiro as a samurai, but he played many different roles, sometimes very surprising. With my videos, I try to honor his memory and to show people how diverse his art was. If you want to watch him in my best videos, I recommend the videos about his work with Inagaki Hiroshi, Taniguchi Senkichi, and Okamoto Kihachi. And the video about "Trhone of blood", one of his favorite roles and one of the most difficult.

      @@plaga96 Thank you very much for your comment. This movie is a marvel of cinema and when I had the chance to see the restored version, I knew that i needed to make this video. It was so important to Toshiro Mifune's eyes to be part of a mexican movie. He loved Mexico and was very well welcomed there. It was his first non-japanese movie, a way to show the world that he could indeed play any role and have an international career. It always saddens me to see how american and european cinema never truly understood his incredible potential. He was welcomed in Europe but did not play in any movie although he could have done that without problem. With the USA, it was a complicated relationship. He never was the main character, except in the remarkable "Hell in the Pacific" by John Boorman in 1968. But the Americans only saw the japanese man in him. For example, when you watch "the last gunfight" by Kihachi Okamoto in 1960, 1 year before "Animas Trujano", you can tell that Mifune would have been a fantastic James Bond. He created the role in a way with "the last gunfight", his character being seductive, mysterious, sarcastic and deadly. But nobody ever gave him the opportunity. I invite you to watch my other videos, my best editing works, such as the 3 videos about his collaboration with Okamoto, Inagaki and Taniguchi. And the trailers for "Hell in the Pacific" and "Throne of blood". They try to pay homage to his incredible talent. He was so versatile and engaged in his roles, so focused, opening new ways in acting as early as 1947 (Christian Bale, who admires Mifune, would never have done "The machinist" if he had not seen Mifune starving himself to show the illness of his character in "Drunken Angel" in 1948). To my opinion, he is the best actor who ever lived. And also, was the most gentle and humble soul.

    I just watched the movie, and oh my God the CinemaScope version looks SO SUPERIOR.
    Truly Gabriel Figueroa was one of our best cinematographers ever!
    And superb acting from Mifune, so sad he was finally dubbed!

    • @Artdesignandcinema
      @Artdesignandcinema  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, he worked so hard on his lines! And you can see it since the dubbing is perfectly in accord with the movement of his lips to a point I've honestly never seen before. He really knew his lines by heart and also how to deliver them.
      The movie was restored for the new japanese edition and I hope that they will make an international version. You don't see it in my video because of the editing, but in fact, japanese subtitles are embeded in the film. I had a hard time with that! If you want to watch some of my best editing works, I recomment the videos about Toshiro Mifune's collaboration with Hiroshi Inagaki, Senkichi Taniguchi and Kihachi Okamoto. Also the trailers for "Hell in the Pacific" and "Throne of blood". He's always different in all those movies. Really, a fascinating man.

It's a pity that he was finally dubbed because of his japanese accent, since he played a lot with his voice. Since I had access to the newly japanese released DVD of the movie, so beautifully restored, I wanted to share. He loved people, other civilizations, other ways to live. A very complex man, kind, generous and humble, working hard, who had his share of suffering, especially in his youth. You're welcome on the channel to watch other videos I made for the 100th anniversary of his birth, especially the videos about his work with directors Kurosawa, Inagaki, Taniguchi and Okamoto. Ismael Rodriguez, the director, offered him a role at the end of the 50's but at the time, Toshiro Mifune declined the offer. He worked a lot, on movies requiring a lot of work at the time. But he was a man open to other cultures, loving to understand other people, which is quite surprising for a Japanese. Don't forget that he was born in Manchuria, and lived his youth in Dalian, a city created by Russians in North of China, where you could meet a lot of strangers. So, we can understand his love for other cultures. And he loved Mexico, where he was very well received.
