A legendary actor of Japan who worked not only as a frequent collaborator with Kurosawa, but also with Hiroshi Inagaki, Ishiro Honda, Senkichi Taniguchi, Kihachi Okamoto, and of course Kajiro Yamamoto, the man who gave Mifune his entry into Toho's world of cinema.

I've noticed his posture is perfect all the time. You can tell he trained hard. Having good posture is a difficult thing to train the body to do. Studying his movements from a massage therapist pov, his gait is perfection. I can't spot any weaknesses in his muscles.

I think it must have been the late 60's seeing the seven samurai for the first time, I was around 12 years old and I desperately wanted to be Kikuchiyo, I beat the tree in the garden with a stick until my hands were raw doing my very best imitation.
Mifune was more than a great actor to me, he was and still is my hero..
Although I have many Mifune box sets and DVD;s, I never realised he was cast so many films, at least I now have a list to look out for and more adventures ahead. Thanks for posting...

Great actor. Apart from his long career in Japan, and some movies in Hollywood, a movie to remark is Animas Trujano, shot in México, where he plays the role of a native from Oaxaca. To remark considering that he learnt the dialogues wthout knowing spanish. The movie was nominated to the Oscars.

He thought deeply, he commanded soldiers, he stood silently in the rain, he strode through a town, he wrestled, he spoke Spanish, he died like a dog and fought like a sombitch samurai ...No wonder we couldn't take our eyes off him....

To answer your question, I know people from Japan who collect rare movies like the ones in this video. For instance, since I uploaded this video, I managed to obtain every Toshiro Mifune movie from the 50's, except one called "Escape from Prison", which may or may not be lost.

A lot of them are available on DVD, sometimes only in Japan. But for a good part of his filmography, it's only possible to see some titles through Japanese television broadcasts. When you know the right people, it's fairly easy to get these kind of things.
