    Wider lapels usually seem to look better on me, but "normal" lapels make it easier for everything to work together, as I've found most off the rack shirts seem to have medium~smaller lapels in mind. Great video as always George!

    Great video! No offense, but I hate thin lapels. I think of what Tom Ford said, "They're sad; like there wasn't enough fabric."

    I know that tuxedo's are mainly for black tie events or formal events but I was wondering if someone can dress down a tuexdo?

    • @oggy5216
      @oggy5216 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you're better off with a charcoal grey suit to wear during the day. Do not wear a tuxedo outside for normal day-to-day wear as the satin lapels would be too ostentatious.
      However, if you have no other options and you **need** a suit jacket AND your tuxedo doesn't have lapels which are peaked and too shiny, you can try wearing it as a black suit with a white shirt and neck tie.

    I’ve always heard that wide lapels don’t work for short guys (I’m 5”7’). How much truth is there to that? And can you overcome that with proper tailoring?

    Personally I prefer the thinner lapels just looking at the jacket but the wider lapel looks better when you take in your size, while you wear it. Very interesting points. Never really knew about that, the tie width and the shirt collar coming to the peak.

    I don't like very "thin/slim" lapels. I do have two Indochino suits with "standard" width notch lapels and like them both. However, I do wish Indochino made "wide" and "standard" lapels proportional to the size of the person rather than have them always be 4.25" and 2.75", respectively. After all, 4.25" is a lot "wider" on a guy who's 5'6" & 140 lbs vs 6'7" & 240.
    Personally I'm 6'2" & 185 lbs. I'd like to buy a peak lapel suit with "wide lapels" that measure 3.75", as 4.25" is a little *too* wide for me (and I definitely *don't* have any 4"+ wide ties). However, I emailed Indochino and they told me that isn't an option though (per above) 🙁 Hopefully they eventually change this!

    #EARLY!
    - i prefer a medium/neutral to wider lapels.
    - i think notch lapels look best between 2.75 and around 3.25 inches, depending on the person wearing and his style.
    - however, i think that for peak lapels, wider ones look much better than thinner ones. the one you have on looks great, and i think slightly wider would be great too!
    cheers!

    Ok guys lets talk lapels and also Indochino. First of the general rule of thumb is that the lapel width should split the width of the jacket half way to your shoulder. This is the safe bet - kind of timeless. You then also understand that your jacket size is going to help you determine the lapel width. In general the industry standard "classic Lapel" is 3.25-3.5 inches. Fashion changes and skinny lapels where in for a while, wider is coming back. So lets talk Indochino Lapels they are: Slim 2.36", Standard 2.75", and Wide 4.0" . Indochino generally caters to younger slimmer clientele, so you see their standard is at 2.75" is a bit on the slim side. Their suits are also tailored very tight unless you really ask for something more full cut. I don't believe the gentlemen in this video mentions what jacket size he is wearing or which of the two lapel sizes he choose to model but the wide one does seem to the the 4", so perhaps the other is the 2.36" to show the range.

    Wide lapels look better on DB suits as long as they don’t go overboard. The current trend for single breasted suits is for wider lapels. As for me I like both depends on what I want to wear on the day. But like all thing change next year thin or very thin lapels may be all the rage Cheers 👍🕺

    George you looked great in both suits. The wider lapel was trying too hard to be trendy, the thinner lapel was more tasteful. Maybe with something trendier like sneakers the wider lapel would go better.

      I think the wide lapels fits my body shape better trend or not. It’s still personal preference though.

    • @DaDutchGuy95

      Wide lapels are actually very old school. It's the thin lapels that are trendy. If you look at the fashion of the last 100-ish years, wide lapels were much more common.

    • @DemetriosLevi
      @DemetriosLevi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DaDutchGuy95 I was gonna say that. Slim lapels are the epitome of trendy lol the first time they show up is the 60's and they didn't come back until the last decade. Wide and medium have been the norm since the suit's inception

    The gorge of the laps needs to be almost at the same height as the bottom knot of your tie. Otherwise the entire thing is unbalanced. The lapel has to go down to almost touching your first button. The lapels grok both side have to be tailored that they never touch. Very very close but don’t touch. A wider lapel is for a more broad upper body strong tall man. If you are on the shorter side and your torso is on the thinner side as well. Use a more narrow with lapel and needless to say a less wider collar shirt

      not only the width, most "modern" lapels have a really high gorge that makes them look completely asymetric, they also have extremely short jackets, extremely high buttoning point of the jacket, and extremely low rise trousers, i quit ready to wears i only tailor my suits from now on for those exact reasons, cheers@@gentslounge
