- This time on the Super Sentai Retrospective, I look at Denshi Sentai Denziman, the fourth Sentai and the second in the Marvel Trilogy. Also my personal favourite of the three.

14:26 From what I gathered, it's less that there was a previous Denziman team, and more that the Denziman project was just known to the Vaders. I think it was the movie that said the project wasn't completed before the planet was destroyed
8:49 in bioman, it was explained by Peebo that the biomen has that fighting ability because it was programmed in the suit. the suit is equipped with a sort of super computers giving them the aptitude to react and fight. that explanation may be applied here as well haha
and both sentai have weird circuitry in their heads

1. the big fist for punching.
2. the suit actor hands with gloves for using swords.
its very noticable in early sentai even in Zyuranger.
And I think that problem still persists now in some future Sentai shows after Zyuranger.
The theme song for this show is so damn funky. Funk levels off the charts. I love it so much

i loved it too, it was a fun show. seeing it with all its old outdated effects had its own charm
They've actually been shaking the mech fights up as far back as 90s. And yes It may be tiresome, but you know what? So is having the rangers meet up all in the 1st episode. Also, I like the use of stop motion in this show, and BTW, the Gorangers did fight a dinosaur robot in the manga.

Denzi Spark! Is such an underrated Henshin call. Dino Buckler, Gao Access and Gokai Change are arguable more iconic, but Denzi Spark is so fun.
That was an excellent retrospective I really enjoyed watching it. I can tell how much work you put into making the video even just watching the show would take some time. 25:19 and I love seeing that they used the toys in the movie those figures of the team have become hard to find and quite expensive when you do find them.

Really solid video! Re: the bit with the "weirdly reoccurring trend" of female rangers disguising themselves you mention at 32:10 -- this is almost certainly a reference to the 1973 cartoon Cutie Honey, in which the hero does exactly that basically every episode.
Wow, seeing a reference to code lyoko anywhere on the modern TH-cam, let alone a super sentai video is surprising. Even though I was introduced via the billiam video, I still very rarely see refererences to it. Cool!

Another great video! I was hesitant to watch Denziman because I read someone describing it as “50 episodes of nothing”, but I think I’ll give it a try. I already like Battle Fever J, so if it’s even better it’s going to be great.

You have missed out one episode that's fun. In episode 43, Denji Blue fell in love with a genie. But, it turns out to be the a Vader Monster trying to infiltrate the Denjiman base. That show got female monsters. Talk about gender bender.

WOW man just wow as always amazing job man genuinely I wish i could have watched it right when this video went live but allas I had to wait anyway to my thoughts on denziman: for me this series was the last of what I like to call the foundation seasons with sun vulcan being proper sentai fair it took everything the first 3 shoes build and materialized it I liked it although I'm not crazy about it it's still was a fun show and I'm glad you enjoyed it can't wait for the sun vulcan retrospective

If I had to make a guess as to why the princess Denzi plot was forgotten about, it was probably meant to tie into Sun Vulcan at some point, since that show was meant to be a direct sequel initially and even get a crossover at some point.
Of course, that never happened, but you can still see some leftovers of it in the finished product, especially in a certain episode of Sun Vulcan.

I hope you'll review Goggle V. One of a few problems in Goggle V is that the Black and Pink Ranger did not actively take part in the monster vs. mecha fight.
Which made me think Goggle V was originally meant to be a three Ranger team and probably an all-male team like Sun Vulcan. But because of the backlash and how negatively received Sun Vulcan was, I bet the addition of the Black and Pink Ranger might be a last minute change.

4:50 Seeing the surname Momoi in a Sentai this early is like a mental flashbang. I know it's for the color name theming, but I guess the Donbrothers poisoning never goes away.
9:15 Another design quirk they apparently took from Goranger is giving the red ranger a fancier head crest. You can see the yellow crest surrounding the red ranger's exposed circuits while the other rangers got none.
Speaking of suit design, this team would influence the rest of the franchise's suit design. I think it's mostly for the black visor to further differentiate themselves from Rider.
13:14 Huh, surprised you don't like the body while liking the head. It's the other way around for me. The body looks serviceable enough to me, but the head really just clashes with the rest of the body, and it just looks kinda ugly even on its own.
Speaking of mech design, this is something I noticed seeing the early showa mechs. They're mostly blue for some reason. From what I heard, it's because blue plastic is cheap to make toys with or something, but don't quote me on that. Either way, as you go through the seasons, you'll notice how the mech designs kinda blend into each other, mostly the blue ones.
18:06 Interesting to see how they went out of their way to give extra focus to those 5 kids. I would've thought they were setting them up to be the next Denziman.
32:50 So apparently, back when this show was in early production and was even called Denshi Man Trigger, Princess Denzi was supposed to be one of the heroines, Crystal/Trigger 5. I guess production changed so much that they had to scrap mostly everything about her presence in the show and relegated her to simply being a backstory character.
38:29 Funny how Star Wars would later do something like this in Episode 9 with Hux's betrayal, and especially much funnier considering this show is heavily inspired by Star Wars as well. I guess George Lucas was right. It's like poetry, it ryhmes.
When it comes to the kids, I've been watching Goggle V, and they seem to be doing the same thing. They explicitly say in the first episode that the kids are supposed to grow up to become the next Goggle V.

Just curious, how long does it normally take you to make these kinds of videos?
Writing the script, recording the audio and then editing together the visuals, it usually takes me about a month to make one video, but then there's also the fact that I get busy with other things in my life, and it ends up slowing things down. The only reason I managed to get the first three episodes out so fast is because I already had the scripts pre-written before I even uploaded the Gorenger one.

I feel like the burger monster's gimmick of making people aggressively obsessed with his corresponding food was being intentionally homaged in the Sakura Mochi World episode of Kikaiger, which also gave us my absolute favourite line in the show's history; "Where do you get off causing this weirdly specific chaos!?"
Also, President Earth absolutely sounds like a name a character could actually end up with in Japanese media, completely unironically

This is by far my favorite of these shows, I got into Super Sentai through Power Rangers and this is really the start of that
Not gonna, something I would fix about Denjiman is include more of Princess Denji as a mentor and also a bit more of the entire team using Denji Punch.
Also I find it odd that Oume is the only member of the team whose last name doesn't contain the Japanese word for his color.
And the person who sings Ginga Honey would eventually go to voice Rainian Agent Abrella in Dekaranger.
The scene with constantly changing clothes is what's known as a Quick Change episode. Most female Rangers have an episode, like Five Faced Peggy.
Oume's color is in the Kanji for his name, as I said.

5 Nen 3 Kumi Mahougumi (5年3組魔法組) literally translated as 5th Grade, 3rd Class Magic Group was broadcast on TV-Asahi throughout 1977. It is perhaps most famous, and most interesting, for starring a young Machiko Soga as Bellbara the Witch. Soga is best known for her roles in Super Sentai, including Witch Bandora in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, but will be very familiar to Western audiences because of this character’s adaptation as Rita Repulsa in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. In this episode, Bellbara is somewhat Bandora-like in her mannerisms but lacks the evil desire to take over the world of her Zyuranger counterpart. Instead, Bellbara is somewhat of a bumbling character. She is struck on the head by a can that the title group of 5th graders are kicking around; frustrated, she kicks a lamppost and the children take her back to a barbershop owned by one of their fathers. Here, she recovers and flees fairly quickly, leaving behind a gigantic handbag with a silhouette of a witch painted on it.
The children chase her down in an attempt to return it to her but, when they fail, the start to experiment with the magical trinkets within, guided by an elf-like character on a screen inside. First of all, they summon a giant, floating multicolour liferaft, called the Magikar, that they use to travel around the town. The also use a magical grappling hook that can pull any object they can picture from anywhere, a book that can metamorphosise any person or animal into another person or animal, and a strange shuriken shaped viewing device that shrinks down one of the children’s mothers before she catches them in the magic act. Nothing malicious so far, just pure kiddie hi-jinks.
I really enjoy your videos, there's a fantastic level of detail and I love seeing you go through all the characters and villains in that level of depth. However, one minor critique would be the level of cynicism you sometimes display when you're speaking about some of the "of the time" aspects of the shows. For example, when speaking about the "seeing into other dimensions" power the team have, it just seems very cynical when you add "because that makes sense...". It's the kind of joke that is a bit of a turn off and sort of low hanging fruit. It's a kid's show from 40 years ago, roll with the punches, it's going to be silly, that's a major part of the charm 😅 Those kind of jokes just make people sound jaded. But I know you're learning as you go and this is a very small critique. Your videos are fantastic over all and super informative, I can't wait to see your Sun Vulcan video, it's one of my favourite seasons!
The seeing into other dimensions isn't an "of the time" thing. It was a weird writing decision, even for the time. They wrote that into the script when it would've made way more sense to just say it was X-Ray vision and there was nothing stopping them from just doing that. I'm all for silly, in fact I expect it in Sentai, but when something is just dumb, I'll point it out. Still, thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoy the Sun Vulcan video when the time comes!

Episode one, monster zero. It must’ve been a computer scientist who came up with us.
Ok my interpretation is denzirangers(wow…pretty creative they are a few names you probably will hate but this is a summary) ok in cave ages ago denzi planet arrive near planet earth the denzis are more uptopian really ahead of the times there is an universal explanation on why caveman build fire or wheels because of them of course it was a challenge for the denzis to make earthlings just a bit smarter and taught them people skills but then the Vader clan led by queen Vader with Vader laser(see? Also imagine said that 10 times fast not the only Star Wars reference) and turn denzi planet into almost inhabitable everything slowly died out and denzi race slowly died except one (or two) years later the denzi planet turn into an island near the place where the future soon to be denzi rangers but only one survived a dog? Called the denzi dog or he prefer be called sparky and the denzi computer put the dog into slumber until the time is right and sparky job is find five humans that posses denzi qualities each one a Good Samaritan,(red) you know with leader and heroic a role model you know typical and has a flat character arc,a carnival man who is honest(blue and ironic isn’t it),a detective who fought truth and justice and more curious about about the denzi island (green) an scientist who knows the world problems(yellow) and finally an althele who doubts herself (pink not a typical hero and still has the thoughts until the second half) they question all of this is this real and have second thoughts especially pink but in the end they are role models and teaches the same group of kids so how did they create monsters by using funding from a secret ally we get through in a second and they grow monsters either satellite or or queen Vader magic (sparky is your typical good boy and intelligence and emotional intelligence also you may be asking how this connect with battle starrangers j fever well a crossover episode with the French guy connect it all too)
Queen Vader: she is related to Rita replusa either cousin aunt or grandma let’s go with distant relative she is petty,vain,hates everything more beautiful then her think like Rita repulsa but more serious or s3 and she cares about her minions
Two different horns guy: he’s a warrior and assist the monster of the week he was forced serve queen Vader but doesn’t mind it he loves it because his previous job he suck his old job and called useless
Mirror and shield girl: just one person with two personalities and she can transform into a shield and an mirror
The second half:the denzi princess or the denzi ranger (it was white ok) so we begin something it’s happened something shaking or amiss even the villains are scared called krampus he kick all the rangers butts and takes control of the empire by lazing around and eat junk food and occasionally fight and comes up plans but he fund the Vader empire you know all the things they have it was all thanks to him he was the one to end the denzi race by fund the best weapons and the Vader laser which can end civilizations in exchange souls and he smell denzi so he promise to end them well did he? Close really but one thing ruins his plan his goal to find the denzi princess and destroy her and he loves destruction also fun fact this is queen bashreea’s husband from light speed rescue and the villains slowly resent him each episode but has a pet octopus
The rangers find the denzi princess first and she told them on why denzi turn into an island and where the others they were all destroy by Vader laser she is lone survivor and had to leave everything her dog sparky leave him into the resting chamber to be upgraded and not to be seen and she becomes denzi white ranger her personality is what paper princess peach and become essential in the last few episodes the villains had enough of krampus and tried to beat him but can’t each time he becomes serious and rule with the iron fist where everyone had to obey him in the final episode krampus and the incorrect two horn guy turns out this dude work for krampus and he sucks blah blah blah it’s basically the same final episode with twist turns and sacrifices until queen Vader finds krampus weakness and notify the rangers and sparky after it took the powers and the doggo had to be gone in order to get powers backs and epic battle between the rangers and krampus until he got zapped by Vader laser by queen Vader she got so upset that her team mates were gone she want end everybody but the denzi rangers arrive quickly and used the ultimate denzi attack to destroy the Vader laser and queen Vader so she surrender and vanish and she rests until next time so the denzi rangers won but at what cost it was a sad victory but ultimately did the complete the denzi mission and become full on denzi citizens so there is hope on denzi island who know maybe sparky will be back in epilogue something with red eyes was glowing a magma machine declare revenge on what happened to queen Vader and destroy humanity with his indestructible abilities(sorry it was very long and maybe it was hard but tried to make sense out of it)

I love this Super Sentai Retrospective series. I grew up with Ultraman and Kamen Rider so Super Sentai and even Power Rangers are foreign to me. I don't time to sit through every season of Sentai like I had for Kamen Rider, this are really good series of videos for me to digest and get the gist of what that season of Sentai is about, if I'm interested in that season, I'll go check out the show itself.
