As a musician you don’t find the uboom l boxy and hollow sounding? I did the 0.4.3 Oluv firmware EQ and still find the sound lifeless and the drums and vocals just so echoing and unrealistic. Reminds me of those old 80s stereo speakers with the foam grills.
Did you really do the test with the speaker turned away from you? I hope not. Did you listen to it with outdoor mode? I think it sounds great especially for the pricecrange
I totally agree with your ranking and thoughts on the sound of each speaker, I definitely don't with your style critique and I know that's absolutely subjective. In my opinion the Uboom strikes a good balance between being fun, but not so adolescent that it feels like a 14yr olds bedroom when placed next to your TV, it's also a functional shape. The Bose on the other hand looks like a cheap plastic toy, which is disappointing for a slightly more "premium" brand. Man that Marshall sounded like it had a bowl over it, what a disappointment!
Good choice. It’s way better than the Uboom l. I have both and I’m returning the Uboom l. I even updated my firmware to the highly touted Oluv 4.3 and it sounds boxy and musically inaccurate. Vocals are lifeless. The Bose is quite amazing, especially with the vocals. They sound so real. My one advice is try playing the Flex on its back. I find it sounds much better in that position due to the position IQ that adjusts the EQ. When in upright position I find the drums get muted.
I just recently bought the Anker Soundcore Motion + and am totally convinced! Oluv calling it "unlistenable" now is just laughable, especially because he didn't even adjust its eq when comparing to the Earfun, obviously not even trying to give it a fair chance. For everyone looking for neutral sound with a little more wattage and great clean bass with absolutely no boom - check out the Doss Soundbox XL Ultra - indoor speaker, 80 Watts, bass down to 35 Hz! It sounds great to me!
That neutral sound is great when you’re playing it while working with power tools, welder, etc. The clarity stands out among a hundred other already muddled sounds.
Yeah you need to do the firmware update to have Oluv's eq, otherwise it sounds a bit off. After firmware it should beat everything on this table in tearms of definition and linearity and try both modes...
Negative. I did the highly touted 0.4.3 firmware which is Oluv’s signature EQ. It still sounds lifeless compared to the Bose Flex. I’ve been comparing for days going back and forth with every genre I can find and the Bose always sounds clearer and cleaner. Especially the vocals, but really everything. Only thing I found that sounded slightly better on the Uboom l was the Black Crowes. I think it has to do with the congested mids in their music. I will say at times the Uboom does sound a little fuller due to its upper bass/mids not lowered like on the Bose, but I can’t get over the Uboom’s hollow and boxy sound that very often comes through sounding muffled. I’d rather have less mids/upper bass for more lower bass and crisper highs with accurate sounding vocals and drums. I was a percussionist back in the day and I cringe when I hear muffled inaccurate drums. One thing to note, the Flex does sound brighter (and better imo) when place on its back or vertical vs standing upright. Bose adjusts the EQ based on its position. Somehow the speaker knows its position and there is a noticeable difference between the sound.
Due to all this hype I just had to get the Uboom l to compare to my Bose Flex. It came with firmware 0.5.0. It didn’t sound anywhere near as nice as my Flex. So I did what the Reddit community recommended and I upgraded (or rather downgraded) to Oluv’s 4.3. It sounded better, but still no where near the quality of the Flex. Keep in mind I listen to my Flex on its back since I find it sounds much better that way. I hear much clearer vocals, more accurate drum beats and cymbals, and more nuance with the Flex over the Uboom. The Uboom sounds boxy to me. I don’t know what people are hearing. My audio experience is with a large Paradigm surround sound speaker system matched with a Denon receiver. That system is a true musical representation. The Bose Flex (on its back) sounds pretty darn close in its accuracy where a snare drum, hi-hat, crash cymbal, guitar, piano all sound real…and with nice separation. Im sorry, the Uboom did not sound nice. Is it serviceable at $60…sure. But for the current Flex price of $119 I’d make that stretch. Plus I find the Bluetooth works much better if using multiple devices. The Flex can multi pair and you can press the Bluetooth button to cycle through to what source you want. It is actually pretty slick.
No estoy de acuerdo, el balance entre precio y calidad se lo lleva de lejos el Earfün, y además tiene la ventaja de ser stereo, contario al Bose y JBL que son monofónicos!!
I’m running 0.4.3 and will say the outdoor mode sounds overall better. But I’m returning my Uboom l. I had recently acquired the Bose Flex and with all this Oluv Uboom l hype I just had to get one for $60 and compare. I had high hopes and really wanted a $60 speaker to sound as good or better than a $119 one, but in no universe can I say it sounds anywhere as good as the Bose Flex. I’ve never liked Bose either and still can’t believe how blown away I am with an Bose product. Always found their sound dull with muted vocals. But this Flex has the clearest vocals I’ve ever heard. For a small mono speaker this thing is nearly as clear and impressive as my Paradigm towers.
Thanks for the review. I had the earfun now for 3 months - excellent sound quality, especially after the firmware update. But overall I wouldn't recommend it for several reasons - no app, firmware update possible only on pc, without video mode latency is terrible, with video mode much better but accompanied with crackling noise, slow charging, doesn't connect well with macbook (need to pair and unpair every time) and sometimes doesn't connect at first try with my phone. So yes, better go with bose or jbl if you don't want to deal with these annoying issues unless all you care about is sound quality.
But even the sound quality is not good on the Uboom L. I had both and returned the Uboom L. It has a real boxy and slightly muffled sound. Like listening to a cassette, and the Flex a CD. Especially when playing the Flex on its back. Sounds much better that way when listening at moderate volume level.
It does sound great. But have you gotten it to work with a Macbook? I'm not talking for firmware downgrade purposes, just for playing music. I can connect, but there is no sound. Works fine with an iPhone.

Normally true, but this Flex had some serious highs without being too shrill. First Bose speaker I’ve ever liked. On its back particularly it gets quite bright, which I like. The vocals sound really amazing.

Being neutral is only good if the speaker is quality. I’ve owned audiophile neutral speakers. Large Paradigm towers, center, rears, and 10” powered sub with a Marantz and later a Denon receiver. Always kept settings at 0 and sounded amazing. The best audio system I’ve ever owned. I got a Bose Flex and also this Earfun thing and have been comparing back and forth for days. In no universe is the Uboom l better than the Flex in audio quality. I’ve updated to Oluv’s 0.4.3 and vocals often sound hollow and muffled, snare drum sounds like a tom drum. Hi-hats sound like a thunk instead of a psst. I’ve played drums and that is not how they are supposed to sound. The overly neutral setting on such a small (and let’s be honest, Chinese made speaker) has all the instruments and frequencies bleeding into each other. Sure you hear a little more mids, particularly mid bass, but nothing sounds clear and musically accurate or pleasing. Earfun is not fun to my ear.
Being neutral, only counts when that is the person's preference. Harman shows most prefer a slope down from 100hz to 20khz, and prefer a bump below 100hz to taste depending on track. This also changes by volume, as we don't hear everything the same at all volumes, hence the equal loudness curve applied by tons of audio gear. This is why most powered speakers go for a "bass boost" curve. It IS the preferred sound for MOST people, and that's how you make money.
@@DannyPops Aw c'mon Danny. You should know by now that the first thing to do with any new BT speaker would be to ensure that it's running the latest firmware :-). The Bose Flex sounds much brighter and open on its back or vertical vs standing upright. It has position IQ where it detects its position and changes the EQ setting. I prefer it on its back. It is really an amazing speaker. I also bought a uboom l and it really sounds muffled. I even did the 0.4.3 firmware update everyone on Reddit recommends. Very lifeless underwater sound. Not sure what all the hype is on this Earfun. It’s not very fun on my ears.
Might be defective. My Flex has quite a bit of bass. I don’t own the micro, but did hear the demo in the store and I heard virtually no bass with that little thing. Now keep in mind these are small BT speakers. It’s not going to sound like a 10” powered subwoofer.
Sorry Danny! You lost in this review. I've all emberton 2, flex, JBL 6, tribit mega plus, tribit micro 2 etc.... Except emberton, all are down and far away to earfun uboom l. . From the low audio to high, earfun rocks with good clarity and balanced bass treble and mid. You are biased.
The Uboom l is very muddy and hollow sounding. I’ve been comparing at home for past few days between the Flex going back and forth with different genres. I also updated the firmware to Oluv’s 0.4.3 and it still sounds dull and inaccurate to me. I don’t understand the hype. Vocals sound underwater. Snare drum sounds like a Tom drum. Cymbals sound like a gong. Hi-hats sound like a thunk instead of a psst. No crisp sound. Everything sounds flat and dull. Whenever I switched back over to the Flex I instantly felt alive. I don’t even think it is an EQ thing. I think this Chinese brand Earfun uses inferior materials and DSP technology. Long time ago at a high end audio shop I was told the best receivers are Japanese and the best speakers are North American.
the most things you can buy in electronics markets are just garbage... and expert had like 40 different bluetooth readios but only 4 bluetooth speakers wtf? xD
The Bose on its back has much better separation. Upright I do agree. Bose has a thing called position IQ which changes the EQ based on its position. It’s how I mostly listen to it. I also owned a Uboom L and found that had horrible separation…and I tried all the firmwares (034, 039, 043, 044, 048, and 050). Whenever a song had a lot of instruments playing at once it sounded quite muffled; most particularly the vocals and drums. I returned it cause I couldn’t get over the boxy tonality and cheap sounding vocals and drums it produced.
Request: Walmarts Groove Onn medium size party speaker. I hear great things about it for a $80 speaker. I actually tested it out the other day at Walmart and it didn’t sound too bad.

Yes studio monitoring headphones, speakers sound too analytical or boring or even bring poorly mastered songs sound worse. Most of the songs that we usually hear especially new gen are very poorly mastered. It's just that consumer speakers hides it with so called "colouring the sound signature". It is really an amazing speaker. I also bought a uboom l and it really sounds muffled. I even did the 0.4.3 firmware update everyone on Reddit recommends. Very lifeless underwater sound. Not sure what all the hype is on this Earfun. It’s not very fun on my ears.
Which you recommend for carrying on a bag while riding around as a bike courier
I would actually suggest the tribit micro 2 for a bike.
@@DannyPops any other recommendation
1jbl =2earfun. I prefer ear fun
Question on Aux: How is this speaker when using a jack from the speaker to TV is there any delay when watching movie or netflix? 🙏
An aux cable would be instantaneous though I haven't tried it
@@DannyPops that's what I thought but apparently not, some new speakers still lag through the aux especially ones in this price
For the price difference between earfun and Bose I’d go earfun. But too late lol I just got the marshal Stockwell 2
Bose flex vs motion plus....?
BOSE SOUNDLINK FLEX 🔈🔉🔊
How about harman kardon speakers????
Maybe it's my chip or speaker.
JBL sounds the best and Bose sounds the worst. Just my opnion.
OLUVS VIDEOS ARE GOOD LIKE YOURS GREAT MUSIC SELECTION ON THIS VIDEO
It's funny because I'm now all in on this speaker for the exact reasons you aren't into it.
Just goes to show how subjective everything is
i like marshall emberton2 just look at the size
I loved the sound check dance 😸
bose flex , jbl flip 6 or uboom ... really hard to choose for me
I know I know... I still think the flex and flip are tops for me.
@@DannyPops I'm waiting for black friday or some christmas promotion to try to buy a bose flex ... it would be fantastic at 100 €. thx for the video
Lolz. Who cares about looks. Its all about good sound.
Bought the bose flex n was so disappointed by the bass. Its the same as the bose micro. Very very disappointing.
Might be defective. My Flex has quite a bit of bass. I don’t own the micro, but did hear the demo in the store and I heard virtually no bass with that little thing. Now keep in mind these are small BT speakers. It’s not going to sound like a 10” powered subwoofer.
❤ earfun
Sorry Danny! You lost in this review. I've all emberton 2, flex, JBL 6, tribit mega plus, tribit micro 2 etc....
Except emberton, all are down and far away to earfun uboom l. . From the low audio to high, earfun rocks with good clarity and balanced bass treble and mid. You are biased.
It has modes and is great for movies
And tv
Podcast
That Wonderboom color is awesome hyper pink I have it , Amazon is selling it for 80.00
The soundcore and bose sounded similar
The worst was the marshall
And change the name. EarFun is a horrible brand name. Excellent review!
And it is not fun on my ears. The sound is not great. Very dull and inaccurate.
JBL is very very good ! thanks for this video
Sounds muddy to me compared to the rest
Long time ago at a high end audio shop I was told the best receivers are Japanese and the best speakers are North American.
for me is bose flex
Dude, who gives a care what it looks like!! I hope they didn't give it to him for free.
Maybe the music you tested with was not the best, try something other then highly compressed modern pop dance. at least as a comparison.
Well everyone has a different taste
Can’t take this video serious at all, you’re listening with the speakers turned away from you. The moving to the music is awkward af.
the most things you can buy in electronics markets are just garbage... and expert had like 40 different bluetooth readios but only 4 bluetooth speakers wtf? xD
The Marshall was sad.
Why the flip selfish ain't on spotify?
artlist.io/?search=selfish
@@DannyPops I found it here on yt too thanks 🤗
I watched till the very end…attentively..😊
Boop. Thank you 😊
I dont know about these, but I just ordered my Acton 3, lets hope I'll be happy with it! 😅
The acton III is really really wonderful. I think you are gunna be happy.
No yellow flip 5 lol great flip 6 instead
Looking at all the speakers he has, earfun was more acceptable looking, not a pink canister lol Don’t really like his review
N1 - JBL ☝️👍
Who tf listens to a speaker that way?
The Bose and the flip 6 were the worst lmao they have 0 separation
I actually tested it out the other day at Walmart and it didn’t sound too bad.
thanks for the suggestion! I'll keep my eye out for it.
JBL flip 6 is 30 watts
Thank you for this information:D
@@DannyPops no problem jbl and soundcore always issue specs the FLIP 6 and MOTION PLUSIN THIS VIDEO WERE LOUDER THAN THE REST 30watts kicks on these 2 the Bose flex is 20 watts Wonderboom 3 17 watts
@@billdepalma161 Watts don't matter
@@lukabosnjak3829 to me it does so I can estimate the output for the room I use it for and the freq response
@@billdepalma161 But watts don't really indicate that (can definitely serve as an estimate of the power), its depending mostly on efficiency of the drivers, size and frequency response here Earfun is louder than Flip 6 with more bass even tho it has 24w vs 30w...
Accurate speakers sound worse? LOL
I'm sure someone with reference studio speakers could also attest to this since they aren't for beauty but accuracy and clarity.
@@DannyPops
Yeah, the typical consumer doesn't like a reference sound. They tend ro like what we call a smile eq curve (emphasized bass and often an equally emphasized high end, though some are just bass-heads).
I guess for audio people (mixers, recording engineers, mastering engineers, etc) accuracy IS beauty.
It's just what we always listen to and strive for
@zephodx I had a set of genelec reference speakers and I immediately went back to consumer speakers.
@@DannyPops
Which model? I know there are specific models that engineers love, but I could never mix on them. I couldn't tell what was going on with them, so I'm not a fan either. Importantly, the room you are listening in and the placement within that room has a HUGE effect on the way the speakers sound. Monitoring is extremely tricky.
Yes studio monitoring headphones, speakers sound too analytical or boring or even bring poorly mastered songs sound worse. Most of the songs that we usually hear especially new gen are very poorly mastered. It's just that consumer speakers hides it with so called "colouring the sound signature".
Oluv if sound engineering guy obviously will give emphasize to details and analytics
and what i had learned - NEVER TRUST ANY YOTUBE REVIEW... i bought several audio products because of good reviews...
especially the "moondrop aria in ear monitors".... jesus christ that thing was just pure shit... muddy bass boring everything muddy... no definition no detail.... speakers can sound warmth and detailed, but they where just shit and all the people on the interenet where like "wow these are so good bla bla bla"...
the same with minirig 3... it just sounded akward with alot of genres and i could not eq it...
dont - trust - internet - reviews....
make shure you can send the speakers back if you want to buy speakers because the fact that you dont like them is high because
you - cant - trust - online - reviews :(
(and maybe because everyone has different ears)
Lol I mean there are a lot of reviewers who get paid to review things as sponsored ads. I do not have such status, just my opinion.
@@DannyPops i should have said that you do just say what you thing and i appreciate that... sorry for giving people wrong impressions :D
😅 This guy was just justifying his taste else I guess he's not an audiophile and he didn't know Oluv that much 😅
I'm definitely not an audiophile. Just a guy on the internet who likes to make videos :)
@@DannyPops Yeah 😁 You're not wrong...Anyways afterall its all about the matter of taste you prefer.
Wathever Oluv review with his EQ and V shape frequencies test, differs in enjoyment for each person tastes, genres and perception of sonics on the ear canal. Take as an example a Alan Ross, soundguys or whathifi wich check each speaker in the analytical way or rtings using especial rooms for test meassures. The Earfun uboom was not scored as high as was with Oluv with Alan and was low scored by rtings wich have equipmment for that.
