To put the Chimera Ant Arc into perspective, it started before the 1999 anime ended, and it ended after the 2011 anime started. I've read a really interesting interpretation of the title of the series: it could refer to the fact that Gon spent most of the story "hunting a hunter (Gin)". Making him a Hunter Hunter

I've legit had this theory in mind for a few months now, that he's on such a long hiatus right now because he's waiting to see how manga like One Piece and Attack on Titan play out. Attack on Titan in particular is tackling relevant themes right now in a way I've only seen Togashi do in the past. They have very interesting stories with themes that I could see Togashi exploring, and perhaps he's waiting for the right inspiration or he doesn't want to step on any toes by writing the same thing they are. The Dark Continent has so much potential to be unlike anything else, Gyro also has huge potential as an antagonist. I'd imagine Togashi wants to craft those ideas in a way that would be unparalleled by contemporary works.
Maybe Togashi meant it in the sense that they will die because they are mortal, as in every other human character's inevitable fate is death regardless of whether that happens in the story or not
Little PSA for all Hunter Hunter fans: there is no greater joy for a fan who has finished the series to introduce it to a friend. Sitting down and once again enjoying it from start to finish is so surreal and is very fun😄👍.

I wish he had more "parental guidance" along the way to prevent his tragic "end". It is not even hidden in the show nor a real surprise by the end that what happened actually happened. Not only do viewers see his behaviour as often very extreme but in-anime characters will frequently inner monologue about him being a "monster" or talk about him behind his back regarding his one track mind. From as early as the first arc. But even his companions don't really do much if anything to stop or modify this. Most characters will just say things along the lines of "this is just the way Gon is" or assume he and Killua are "just kids". He gets a pass on many of his actions. Yes, I do understand that sometimes he was punished (by Wing, by Knuckle's nen ability) for a short while but these were usually only temporary "time outs" and not actually anyone taking him aside to review his actions and thoughts and to see if there was a better way of channeling his emotions and dealing with loss, anger, frustration, failure, fear, etc. And so he lived to do it again and again and again in escalating fashion as he got into more dangerous situations. It's tragic too that his deadbeat dad actually demonstrated (once) that he has the capability of being that guiding force (when Gon says he should have died rather than Kite and Ging immediately changes his facial expression and posture and gives Gon some true guiding statements that helps to snap Gon out of this guilt spiral) but he chose at least twice to leave Gon behind. Once as a baby and again at the end of CE arc, arguably when Gon needed a dad the most. He just lost his humanity, his best friend (things arent the same anymore), his nen, and nearly his life. Don't get me wrong. I actually love that Togashi created such a beautiful compelling hero rise and fall story and took it full through to the end without some random friendship speech negating the entire descent as we see in so many other anime and hero stories... but it is just, well, so tragic, that there were many time points where an intervention could have been done that may have saved Gon. While this does in many ways wrap up the story of Gon, I do hope that Togashi has the health, time and desire to craft an equally beautiful hero redemption arc!
I am also more curious about the order of the birthdays. It is certainly an interesting point that Hisoka is in this birthday string, but perhaps more intriguing is that Leorio (oldest of the classic 4 protagonists) is 3/3. Kurapika (next in line) is 4/4. Gon (5/5) and Killua (7/7) are same age so who comes next in order is probably not as stunning.... except that Hisoka's birthdate (6/6) falls in between them! I could also dive deeper into the conspiracy rabbit hole and wonder if each date has some other meaning. Like how in Chinese and Japanese the word for "3" is a near homonym for "life" in Chinese so maybe that associates with Leorio being a doctor. The Chinese and Japanese word for "4" is a near homonym for the word "death" in both so maybe that associates Kurapika with the slaughter of his clan.... 4 has been used for Hisoka too though, so I guess that remains a mystery. Can't really say what to make of the others though NewWorldReview has taught me May 5 is Children's Day in Japan for Gon's birthday. Actually, I think I remembered in 6:55 that I do recall to remember Yusuke's mother doesn't pick up the big ammount of trash in her apartment (except there's definitely no games shown) when Yusuke was unconscious in the first arc in Yu Yu Hakasho as well.
The fact that Gon hasn't been the protagonist in nearly a decade is bizarre, but I honestly don't think it would be a tragedy if the story is never finished, because it's a not a story that ever really has to end. The really heartbreaking part for me is that the narrative story literally drifting toward the land where all ailments can be cured and immortality is within reach, lead by the great Beyond, is being written by a man in constantly failing health. The metanarrative there certainly has quite a bit of poetry to it
In fact I think Hunter x Hunter refers to the type of hunter that Kaito and Gon are while searching for Ging: A Hunter hunter just like a beast hunter and many others it's a title but that is what I noticed and it's not what it is really I don't really know because I am not Togashi so you can say it however you want
im pretty sure the reason hxh is named so bc togashi at the time of its conception was watching some japanese gameshow where the central gag was word repetition (like ‘word x word’) and he was into it at the time hence the name hunter x hunter.
Dont worry about us long term fandom. We are used to it. Dark continent feels just like me in middle school watching Pitou be born and then waiting 6 months for a new chapter. Seriously. I was born in 1995. Graduated in 2014. HxH anime came out in 1999 Anime 1 ended in 2001 Anime 2 ended in 2014(iirc) The anime itself Is as old as I am and yet it's still not finished.
People dying isn't really a spoiler. I mean we don't even know how they die. For Kurapika i might even see a suicide after killing the relevant phantom troupe members. Or old age after spending the rest of his life teaching others how he fucked up in dedicating a big chunk of his life to vengeance.
Guessing the origin of the 5 calamities: zobe is obviously zombies, but I think ai are based on djinn. Best guess is hellbell might be judeochristian Eden serpent and pup might be vampires. No idea about Bryon (sp??) yet.
still really love that hunterxhunter and sailor moons creators are married(really would absolutely love to see them do art of gon, killua and the sailor scouts together as i remember seeing both series reference each other.:3) and find it cute that japan's miss universe has a liking for leorio.(be funny if art was done of him telling kurapika that.)
I didn't see this mentioned, but kurapika being born on 4/4 might be significant to Kurapika eventually dying since in Japan 4 is considered a deadly number. Might show dying has been built into his character from day 1
When this series was localised in the Philippines, the X is always pronounced on every commercial promoting it, and that's why I thought it's how it's supposed to be. I only realized it after I got full access on the internet and saw some animes with X on titles. Took me 10 years, no kidding.
@@muffinfighter3680 I can say that they did a good job. And mostly all of Filipino dubbed anime in general are. Maybe because some voice actors are doing it for a long time, as in decades.
Togashi’s Hatsu is creating the greatest Manga of all time. The severe condition he placed on himself to command such power is being forced to take Hiatus between small sets of a few chapters or so. It’s just the way Great Nen works yal 🤷♂️
The first character shown in the manga is Kite, who was a Hunter Hunter because he was hunting down Gin. The main protagonist (Gon) is also a Hunter hunter in that he's also hunting down Gin.
okay actually watched it now and idk if i should be proud or ashamed that i knew all the facts, but your videos are honestly some of my favorites on this whole damn site so i loved it as always c:
If Dwun is a caricature of Togashi, I wonder if 1. Togashi was bullied as a kid and called names which possibly inspired the concept of Ging forcing Dwun to change his name 2. When the characters realize they are still "in the real world" and not in a video game... since "Togashi" is on Greed Island, if that is also not a word play on the "real world" (ie. our world vs the anime/manga world) :)
About the fact number 10, I'm from Brazil and people here sometimes call the name "Hunter Vs Hunter", which kinda make sense because of the many professional hunters in the serie fighting against each other.
The thing about not pronouncing the X was weird to me at first. When I first watched HxH (1996) it was translated to spanish and the name they gave it in animax was "Cazador X" (Hunter X) And I don't know why, but made much more sense for me to drop the second hunter than the X, my logic was that "because it's mirrored so is just a reflection"
This being the darkest HxH publication period is somewhat arguable. This is definitely the largest gap between 2 HxH chapters (at 89 issues, as you said), But it’s good to keep in mind that the gap between chapters 340 and 341 was 103 issues. 340 and 341 only being separated by the two 30-page chapters of kurapika’s memories. And that’s definitely a valid reason to make the separation in the hiatus periods, but 60 pages of manga vs the 200 pages of manga we usually get when Togashi comes back now is an important distinction to make, both in the difference of toll it would put on Togashi and the struggle of being a fan of the series.
I have a theory that damage to the hands and arms is symbolic of personal drive and motive in a lot of things. Many highly driven characters end up with arms ending up damaged, many times characters will damage their hands to push themselves forwards past their limits, and many times psychopathic characters will sever or irreversibly damage their hands without a second thought in order to get ahead, showing a perverted form of personal drive. Also, many times, characters end up with their hands severed in their darkest moment, showing a loss of personal drive, or damage to drive. Examples with at least one of these tropes are: hunter x hunter, my hero academia, red rising, Star Wars, Naruto, full metal alchemist, and a whole lot more. It’s kind of weird, but I have noticed it a lot. Edit: any new series I think of that has this trope will be put below The Stormlight Archive
Togashi is a mad genius, so maybe to prove a point to someone he works with he's going to be on hiatus until the exact moment 2 years pass, and then pop more chapters (or alternatively 100 issues of shonen jump)
New sub here. Been subbed to grandline review for quite awhile though. I feel stupid. Yu yu hakusho is my favorite anime and I had no idea hunter x hunter was done by the same guy. I am now super interested and am starting the 2011 anime

When I first watched Hunter x Hunter, it was on Toonami on Adult Swim and they actually pronounced the name without the X in it whenever they said it. Still, that didn't convince me to pronounce it that way because several people I knew told me specifically that you were supposed to pronounce the X in the name. Guess I've been wrong this whole entire time. The more you know
We know the use of emperor time drains kurapika's life force, and ALL of his enemies are on the Black Whale. We can expect him to throw away his life to complete his mission. I would bet the end of kurapika's story/the series is melody burying kurapika and the scarlet eyes in his clan's homeland as per his final request on the whale after dying in his final battle against Tserriednich and the PT. i can also see kurapika teaming with hisoka one last time to complete this feat, and since hisoka isn't a spider i could see him surviving after winning the chrollo rematch and moving on to fight Beyond Netero while Ging searches for Don.

Actually, I think I remembered in 6:55 that I do recall to remember Yusuke's mother doesn't pick up the big ammount of trash in her apartment (except there's definitely no games shown) when Yusuke was unconscious in the first arc in Yu Yu Hakasho as well.
People really be hating on Togashi for not finishing HxH. The man is sick, leave him be.
He could just right the end
Or like Gourmet hunters
I must really need to sleep this time because I read the title as two shocking HxH facts.
im pretty sure the reason hxh is named so bc togashi at the time of its conception was watching some japanese gameshow where the central gag was word repetition (like ‘word x word’) and he was into it at the time hence the name hunter x hunter.
Dont worry about us long term fandom. We are used to it. Dark continent feels just like me in middle school watching Pitou be born and then waiting 6 months for a new chapter.
Seriously. I was born in 1995. Graduated in 2014.
HxH anime came out in 1999
Anime 1 ended in 2001
Anime 2 ended in 2014(iirc)
The anime itself Is as old as I am and yet it's still not finished.
Leorio was a good friend, tall, and have a dream he pursues wholeheartedly.
People dying isn't really a spoiler.
I mean we don't even know how they die. For Kurapika i might even see a suicide after killing the relevant phantom troupe members.
Or old age after spending the rest of his life teaching others how he fucked up in dedicating a big chunk of his life to vengeance.
What?No that's stupid,a mangaka wouldn't mention a character dying if it was just from old age unless he's just trying to mess with fans

Number 11: Bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum.😂
Hisoka : I'm turned on ⭐️-_-💧
Guessing the origin of the 5 calamities: zobe is obviously zombies, but I think ai are based on djinn.
Might show dying has been built into his character from day 1
When I was young, the first anime adaptation was aired in our country and the tv network that aired it called it HUNTER X HUNTER. reading the "ex"
Pilipino ka???
Shocking fact number 1 Morel can outbake Snoop Dog
1:26 Illumi judging you right now 😂
Number 1 should be: If Hunter X Hunter comes back from Hiatus it will crush all of those overrated manga like KnY, Black Clover, etc.
It won't
I am so guilty of pronouncing the "x" 🤣
Same 😭
Don't worry, the X is pronnounced
Yup me too
@@DamageMaximo it doesn't supposed to
DamageMaximo it’s not
When this series was localised in the Philippines, the X is always pronounced on every commercial promoting it, and that's why I thought it's how it's supposed to be. I only realized it after I got full access on the internet and saw some animes with X on titles. Took me 10 years, no kidding.
Interesting :D How is the dub?
@@muffinfighter3680 I can say that they did a good job. And mostly all of Filipino dubbed anime in general are. Maybe because some voice actors are doing it for a long time, as in decades.
I love that people really wanted one fact to be included here. The fact that bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum. 😅
Ngl... Im definitely one of those people that say Hunter “x” hunter😂
okay actually watched it now and idk if i should be proud or ashamed that i knew all the facts, but your videos are honestly some of my favorites on this whole damn site so i loved it as always c:
Man... Hunter x Hunter fans have reallyyyy suffered 🥴🥴
I always figured the name was about Gon being a hunter hunter. He is a hunter hunting his hunter dad.
Edit: any new series I think of that has this trope will be put below
The Stormlight Archive
Togashi is a mad genius, so maybe to prove a point to someone he works with he's going to be on hiatus until the exact moment 2 years pass, and then pop more chapters (or alternatively 100 issues of shonen jump)
New sub here. Been subbed to grandline review for quite awhile though. I feel stupid. Yu yu hakusho is my favorite anime and I had no idea hunter x hunter was done by the same guy. I am now super interested and am starting the 2011 anime
Kurapika and the phantom troupe can't die if the story never ends...
Him: “Wanna go out”
Her: “I can’t date my boss”
Him: “you’r fired…..wanna go out”?

Can you make videos on other anime please, here are some ideas.

I think the most shocking fact would be if Tokashi was actually going to be able to finish the series. I pray Jesus heals him.
The man performing Hisoka in the musical is the same man who voices him in the anime.
My birthday is July 7th - 7/7 so does that mean I'm a hxh protagonist too?
Hisoka dance is cool in the most wacky way possible
Lmao putting thier wedding on hiatus is hilarious
Next week makes 100 issues of jump without HXH. Feels bad, man
Actually there are three musical. The third was based of the New York arc btw. The musical also had the 1999 cast. Another fun fact Togashi has two kids with his wife.
When do you think Togashi will come back with a new chapter?
I dont think he will unless his wife does his art but the anime may come back to animate the rest of the manga
@@donbon5563 He will come back and save jump from the dark times when OP, mha, aot, black clover ends well of all of these seem to be ending, We can't be sure of OP though, OP is dragged really dragged
The more you know
I just learned that Hitsoka's Bungee Gum has the properties of both gum and rubber
2 of my favourite stories; Hunter x Hunter and song of ice and fire.
Gons arm and Dekus hands are cursed af
Hisoka came back to life. He’s definitely a main protagonist
I'm that one person who says the title as Hunter X Hunter, and I will keep on saying it.
Imagine if togashi who is known for haiteses had Araki’s memory span
Keep these vids coming my guy.
Question in the heavens arena there a rule about no weapons but does that pertain to conjured weapons
The most shocking fact for me is that I share my birthday with Killua
can you do a video about the assassin mode of the zoldyck family?
Just finished the anime and now I want it to come back
The musical was quite interesting....but I liked it. lol Not sure if you mentioned it but I think most of the cast was the VA's from the 1999 version.
