  • If you have any old GBC Pokémon games that won't hold their save file, try this out to repair the save battery! You'll need the Cr2025 battery for the larger cartridges. Be on the lookout for my next video with a special treat.

This cartridge was a friends, so I won't be posting it for sale, but you should check out my Mercari for future posts.

Maybe I’ll stream myself doing this sometime? It can be time consuming and requires a good deal of patience. But it’s a lot of fun, and can be very relaxing.

hey dude im new to all this cartridge repair stuff, is it completely fine to be rough with them when cleaning? and can you damage the board if to soldering it to hot? thanks. :D

Hey, it’s so cool you’re getting into it! It’s a lot of fun. I wouldn’t recommend being too rough. The cartridges are actually really resilient and they should be fine, but you can never be too careful. I also keep my soldering iron pretty low, and try to avoid hitting the board in any way. You can burn the board and cause some issues if you’re not careful. But as long as you take your time it should be alright. I recommend starting with some games you don’t care about, just to get an idea for how sturdy the carts are. The first game I opened was a Finding Nemo game, just to get used to the size of the pieces.

what did you use to clean the motherboard with?

I use an isopropyl alcohol, typically the highest percentage I can find at my local drug store. Usually anything above 70% is safe, but the higher the better.

what temperature does the solder need to be at?

I typically have my iron set to 350 or so. I've found it hasn't made a huge difference when performing these small fixes.

My Pokémon silver lets me save all game but when I beat the elite 4 and lance it’s takes me back to the last save and won’t let me continue with the rest of the second map… any ideas?

I just followed all the instructions and replaced emerald, ruby, gold, silver , and yellow. They all worked except for yellow. It saves but the moment I take out the game and put it back in. It deletes the save files. I’ve also tried the multimeter thing and it reads 3.06 so I’m not sure what’s wrong. Do you happen to know?

Hey! In my experience this could mean a couple things. The battery could be installed backwards/upside down. The battery might not have a solid solder joint on one or both sides. Or damage might have been done to other components in the circuit board. Id first try verifying that the battery is in the correct orientation, then readjust the solder or just clean it up and re-adhere it. Lastly, look for other signs of damage.
