An absolute relic. I remember being shown this glitch when I was a kid. I mentioned to my friends "wouldn't it also duplicate held items?", and all of our jaws dropped in realization. Rare Candies and Master Balls galor after that. Takes a lot of the fun out of the game in hindsight, but we were kids, and the discovery was part of the fun. I make mods for games now, and I think this glitch was what inspired me to start doing so.
I remember trying to duplicate my Gengar with my friend. Instead we both got an Onix lol. I was 11 years old 6th grade. Now I am 32 with a wife and child. Time flies.
Same thing happened to me....except with a Mew I got at a Toys R Us event. I was the only person I knew who had one. We tried to duplicate it, but did it backward and both ended up with a Gloom instead. I was completely devastated for weeks. I'm 34 and I still haven't really gotten over it. 😭

this is essentially the way you dupe items and pokemon as well although the time between saving and turning off is a lot closer together. I remember doing this when I was a kid.

I was so young that I didn't care that nothing worked in kanto it was just cool that you got to there and see old characters. I think all pokemon games should of had dual regions, could have been a much better game. 14 years later and this video is teaching us all a life lesson. Thank you

Like someone in elementary school showed me how to do the glitch in Gen 1 , where you put some item like 7th in your list and then swim up and down on the coast of that island town , apparently there’s a name for it but I’ve never known what it’s called , just that David showed me in the 3rd grade 😂 Or like the GTA3 cheat codes, you had to go to Kroger and buy a little cheat code list with all the books , that was like the holy grail my little cheat code book I got from the grocery store. I remember the first guy who introduced me to Eminem too , that was a monumental event. Or like GPS wasn’t a thing either. Remember you had to print off directions before you left the house. Either that or stop at random gas stations to ask for directions 😂 just shit from my childhood. Gas under $1 , that I actually do miss.
I remember cloning mews for everyone in school who wanted one, since I was the most consistent in doing the trick. That cartridge died 4ish years ago though... 300 or 500 hours or so spent in crystal.

This is the same glitch that allows to clone pokemon. The box status is saved early in the saving process, before other things in the game. Pretty clever to use it on the starters like this.

Up to not too long ago you could do it in bdsp you could give 30 pokemon in a single box a rare candy each and you could duplicate the entire box. I love how over the years the duplication glitches have advanced more than the games have

I never thought about using the duplication glitch that way before. I mostly just used it to get a few extra master balls. I always got all 3 from having both games and trading, as well as getting all the way to goldenrod in one so I could breed them.

I ultimately had to restart the game over because I saved after acquiring it and the game wouldn't load in after I turned it off

This is literally the best glitch in Pokémon. And it’s by far my favorite generation of games. But this glitch is so versatile. Get as many odd eggs, all starters, clone Pokémon and held items, hell on the virtual console crystal version you can even use it to duplicate the GS ball(well, kind of. Use it and still have it), allowing you to catch a regular celebi, but still go back and shiny hunt it later. If only there was a glitch to get access to late game areas like Mt. silver, to get those Pokémon locked to the post game. My favorite Pokémon is misdreavus and I’ve never been able to use it in its home region. Which is sad.
You can use a randomizer to get any starter you want. I am currently playing through Soul Silver where I gave myself a Shellder as a Starter, along with a Water Stone to evolve it when the time is right.

the faster way is by catching 2 pokemon. by having 2 pokemon deposited, you don't have to obtain the pokeball after the first reset

Actually you just need to catch 1. Let your starter hold a poke ball when depositing it in the PC. Saves you time so you don’t need to catch 2.

You can use a randomizer to get any starter you want. I am currently playing through Soul Silver where I gave myself a Shellder as a Starter, along with a Water Stone to evolve it when the time is right.
